Part of my 20 images that changed my portfolio set. I will always remember taking this shot, as I was caught in a Storm Force 10 on the north tip of mainland Orkney. The light was just right and as I was just getting finished I saw the makings of a huge wave out in the water. Trying to protect myself from injury I managed a sequence of 5 shots as the wave finally reached shore and crashed down on the submerged rocks. The next day when I revisited the shore much of it had been altered through the power of the waves. /

I need a big canvas print of this so I had to reprocess the whole thing. / Firstly, I merged the 6 shots 2 photos at a time, which resulted in flawless merging of the clouds and ‘better’ merging of the waves. After that I still spent about 20 minutes on the waves. You can only see merging traces at 100% zoom on the 70003600 resolution, on the previous one there was merging mistakes everywhere, visible at full view on the 1200700 resolution…so big improvement there. Huge improvement on shadows and highlights too. There’s barely a blown-out highlight or black shadow, where as the previous one had a lot of both. Colour and contrast: This version has much less contrast and it has true colour. All I did was increase the black of yellows and reds with selective colour. minor levels adjustments( too much blows out highlights and blackens the shadows). So overall, a much more natural look. And much more pleasing to look at. I think I’m probably gonna lose fav’s with this version because the colours are less interesting. But I’ll gain fav’s from the people who appreciate a properly exposed and processed nature photo? It’s been a while since I put up the companion images to this muted landscape #4 , here , here , and here but the series finally came back from the framers and they all got shipped off to Parliment House in Sydney just yesterday. Oh my goodness getting all these done was a bit of an epic ….. and then there was an overbooking at the venue so we’ve all had to wait an extra week to put up our show…... it was all meant to be on the wall on the 4th but now won’t open till next week….... so all the frantic rushing to get it all done in time was all a bit nuts now that I think about it. Anyway after a lot of flaffing about with how best to articulate the images to best advantage I finally printed them myself on to 325 gsm warm toned Fabrizoni finest watercolour paper with my very nice Epson photostylus R1800 printer. Then each pair …. there are four in total…. has been double mounted in a mid grey matt with a glossy black box frame. Each print is A3 in size and the final dimensions of each framed pair is 106.5cms by 53 cms. So only mediumly large in the end. The mid grey tone of the matt reads as mid green in relation to the prints themself and the whole effect is of a very muted but mysterious melancholic beauty…. I’m very pleased with them. So if your in Sydney next week pop into Macquarie Street and have a look…. there are four of these Broken Landscapes and another new doubled work to boot….... Landscape for Piet Mondrian #1 and #2… I’ll post about that set later on

The Twilight Zone is an American television anthology series created by Rod Serling. Each episode (156 in the original series) is a mixture of self-contained fantasy, science fiction, suspense, or horror, often concluding with a macabre or unexpected twist. A popular and critical success, it introduced many Americans to serious science fiction and abstract ideas through television and also through a wide variety of Twilight Zone literature. The program followed in the tradition of earlier radio programs such as The Weird Circle and X Minus One and the radio work of Serling’s hero, dramatist Norman Corwin. This was taken at sunset at Port Campbell of the twelve apostles on the Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia. I used a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera.
The motifs of SYNTHESIZED FASHION take up standardised, life- and speechless storefront mannequins as protagonists and imbue them with idiosyncratic personalities and a language all their own. Transposed into a novel visual context and given their own stage setting, as it were, they are plunged at the deep end into a realm of captivatingly mysterious beauty and for one timeless moment, vouchsafed a depth beyond all standardisation and conformity.
