This intimate, bright yet dark, static yet flowing, autumn themed image was made in Baxter State Park, Maine, USA in October 2006. I like the contrast of the flowing water beneath the still branches, the pop of color from the remaining birch leaves, and the juxtaposition of the branch atop the stream in tone and color! /

This is the little foot bridge around the forest I frequent with River. It was shot after the first snow this winter. Yesterday someone wanted to purchase this piece at a local gallery but she wanted me to give her more choices of framing and I finally came up with this version and she (along with her children) love it as her 12-year-old called it “The Magic Ice Bridge”. So I thought perhaps some of you would like it too! :)

The award-winning Solitude was shot on medium format, black & white film, just before dawn on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. The high-key effect was created and enhanced in-camera by filtering, with virtually no post-processing.

This trumpeter swan stretched its wings while its mate (hidden in tall grass) preened. The trumpeter swan is a majestic bird, with snowy white feathers; jet-black bill, feet, and legs; and an 8-foot wingspan. At close range, a thin orange-red line can be seen on the lower part of the bill. Trumpeter swans establish life-long mates at approximately 3 years of age and nest the following year. Sometime between late March and early May, they build their nests, choosing locations close to water. Today, the central Alaska population winters from southeastern Alaska along coastal British Columbia south to the mouth of the Columbia River on the southern border of Washington State. Nikon D200 and Nikkor 70-300mm, 270mm, at f/9 and 1/640 sec, -0.3ev, IS0 200. Converted from 12-bit RAW to jpeg using Capture NX 2.1, manual exposure, spot metering, Manfrotto tripod.
