The Big 30! Today
by Carrie Glenn/ *The Big 30…30,000 views!!! WOW! I’m feeling old!...
/ The Big 30…30,000 views!!! WOW! I’m feeling old! LOL! No really, it’s great…no actually it’s fantastic! Thank you to each and every one who has become a part of my life, my views and even my artwork itself. Here are some of my favorite highlights since the last ten thousand miles… The biggest news I probably have to announce is the publishing of my artwork in “Artists of The West” book! It is a true milestone for me and a great personal success. It was an amazing project to be involved in and over a three year journey. I ended up making some great friends and contacts along the way and really bonded with everyone involved in the book. / After the release of the book there was some really exciting events to follow like the first book signing in St. Helens with the official release. / I am also doing a public book signing, autographs and a special unveiling of three of my new paintings at the Astoria Sunday Market later this month. The Astoria Sunday Market / / (Feel free to shoot me an e-mail if you’re interested or would like more information on the event) Also I am VERY excited to be a part of the RedBubble Rialto Towers art exhibit ironically also on July 27th the same date of my book signing in Astoria, Oregon! My work First Tree was chosen along with 40 other works of art to show in the foyer of the Rialto Towers for a two week art show! I am honored and thrilled to be showing my work alongside the other amazing artists and my RedBubble friends! I was also a part of some wonderful collaborations My collaboration piece Through The Past To The Future with my friend Michael Gatch was a total success and incredibly fun! It was inspired by his photo Through The Past / We had such a good time we did another one… / Apple Harvest which was inspired by Michael’s photo Old Apple When I looked at this work I saw the tree as the point of life that was celebrated and brought people and family together. I wanted to I take it back in time or to another time perhaps. I also had a fantastic collaboration with my dear friend Paul Hobday / I was really inspired by his photo Twisted and had a vision of what eventually became…The Other Side Of The Fence my newest work. Again THANK YOU to each of you who took the time to view my work, comment on my work and invest into me and my career. My art work is the road in this life that I have chosen to make a living on and really…it is my life. In each painting or drawing I create I try to leave a bit of myself to be shared with another person. / Thank you so much for supporting and embracing me and one of my true loves…art!

I had never really entered RB competitions until RB made it much easier to join in, so lately, I have been having a go (with no real hope that I would be successful). I just checked and I find that I have won a place in the top ten in two of the Competitions I have entered. The standard in both competitions was very high and the winning shots are exceptional, so I was most pleased to be a runner up in this illustrious company. Foggy Bridge was my entry in the Stream Crossings group competition: / On the hoof was my entry in the Public Art group competition: / Click on an image to see it properly These results are very welcome news and I would like to thank everyone who voted for my images, I appreciate your support so much. A Call for Guerilla Public Art - nofrillsart and Guernica
by najeroux de fa faFor those of you who were curious about Picasso’s Guernica… T…
For those of you who were curious about Picasso’s Guernica… The following blog text can be found here Art has power. Here is how much: John T. Unger, an artist and longtime commenter on Collision Detection, recently announced an intriguing art project called “American Guernica: A Call for Guerilla Public Art”. He’s calling upon artists nationwide to post replicas of Guernica, Picasso’s famous antiwar painting, on billboards and the sides of buildings(...). Why Guernica? Because Picasso intended it to depict the horrors and insanity of war, particularly the human destruction wreaked by bombings. Guernica caused a stir when it was unveiled back in 1937, and apparently it still does. John says his inspiration for the project came from an Iraq-related incident, as detailed by Wikipedia: A tapestry copy of Picasso’s Guernica is displayed on the wall of the United Nations building in New York City, at the entrance to the Security Council room … On February 5, 2003, a large blue curtain was placed to cover this work, so that it would not be visible in the background when Colin Powell and John Negroponte gave press conferences at the United Nations. On the following day, it was claimed that the curtain was placed there at the request of television news crews, who had complained that the wild lines and screaming figures made for a bad backdrop, and that a horse’s hindquarters appeared just above the faces of any speakers. Diplomats, however, told journalists that the Bush Administration leaned on UN officials to cover the tapestry, rather than have it in the background while Powell or other U.S. diplomats argued for war on Iraq. / As John writes, “If the painting intimidates warmongers into covering it, then why not make sure that it goes up in as many public spaces as possible?” The original article – American Guernica: A Call for Guerilla Public Art The response resulting from nofrillsart’s piece LOOMING proves that even in our seemingly small international web community of RedBubble, there are people prepared to stand for what they believe in. Our art is here to be seen and invoke thought, arouse converstion and discussion and hopefully inspire. I’d like to make a stand today to no longer post empty frivolous work. Fuck sunsets. I want to see the dawn of a new day. I want to thank everyone who has participated in bringing about these discussions. It means that your art is doing it’s duty. Inspiring change. najeroux

21.10.08 Compassion, Courage, and Friendship RedBubble Book Review: Is This The Worst Art Publication To Date?
by ozlatRedBubble claims to be an open and inclusive website where you can share your creative genius with the world, but with the new RedBubble …
RedBubble claims to be an open and inclusive website where you can share your creative genius with the world, but with the new RedBubble book publication ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, it might leave people wondering where this creative genius got to in this instance. Mind you, the only people left wondering will be the people that haven’t got their grubby little hands on ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, everyone else will be enthralled as they flip the pages and allow themselves to be reduced to tears, anger, laughter, smiles, and deep thought time and time again. At first sight, ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’ seems like the perfect collectors item. A perfect square measuring 21.5 cm in all directions, and the spine labelled with the source and title, it would seem that the exterior design was thought through for the avid book collector. It’s not only bright and airy, but the aesthetics of the cover make you feel at ease and loved. Now sitting on the train and heading to college, I manage to be publicly seduced and buckle to the passionate gestures of ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’. The exquisite craftsmanship continues, with each captivating image and inspiring literature, matching perfectly to tell a story that might otherwise be lost. Someone made an effort and it certainly shows. The typeface has also been perfectly selected to match the theme and only add to the experience, it isn’t distracting and I don’t have to squint or learn another language to read it. Sure there are plenty of thought provoking images to immerse yourself in, but I say it once again, the literature that accompanies is a match made in heaven. Don’t take my word for it though, because as I sit here on a peak hour train critiquing ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, it seems I have some new-found friends reading along with me. The IT guy to my left, the somewhat hungover looking blondie to my right, and the people I can’t see but can feel breathing on my neck behind me (I know you’re there). I do have one hang up though, and it could be one of personal preference, but I was disappointed that the links to each artist where at the back of ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, as opposed to being directly beneath the featured art or literature piece. It might sound picky, but as a matter of convenience, it would allow the reader to more freely access their favorite artist or writer and go view their other works online. The works from the RedBubble community collected in this book illuminate the power of Compassion, Courage, and Friendship. They show us that when we go beyond our fears and truly see someone different to us, we look at something that can set us free. In concluding this review, I asked Sandra Iov, a fellow photography student to critique two images in ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, and here are her two favorites and an explanation of why: I Dreamt Of An Angel II by chrisdade “I like the contrast between the straight lines and the sharpness of the surroundings in comparison to the softness of the skin and shadows of the boys. I like the idea that although they may be perceived as homosexuals, it plays against the idea of their sin with the angel wings. It says what they do is not a sin.” – Sandra Brothers by Jinx “The older boy is keeping the younger brother safe from the darkness in the background. The bridge leads to the unknown and they look like they’re about to take that journey together. The contrast between the light on the boys and that of the forest is powerful.” – Sandra

Following in the fine tradition of many of the other hosts on this wonderful space, a blog, the InkBlog, has been created to collate and highlight the movements of the seemingly sombre and yet incredibly artistically energetic Dark ARTists… Dark art / From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This article is about the art style. Primarily a product of the 20th Century, dark art is an art style defined as that being “dark” or unsettling in nature. Called and classified under many names such as gothic, horror, metaphysical, nightmarish, and disturbing, it is actually a culmination of techniques and styles. It has been presented in many forms by many artists, illustrators and film-makers. It continues to grow in popularity as a part of the horror genre and gothic, music and publishing culture. Today, it a part of our mainstream culture, crossing over into multiple mediums including advertising, television, film, and marketing. While it has roots in horror, it has been presented in collage, surrealism, abstract, motion graphics, grunge, expressionism, and largely digital art. This is definitive of many ‘dark arts’ however I consider it to be very broad, how would you describe the type of dark art you do? If you are not a DARK ARTist, what type of Dark Art would you do if you were? I would love to hear some other opinions about the perception of dark art in the broader community. How do you feel, for example, when confronted with a lot of it as is the case in the dark art gallery? PARALLEL SPIRITUALITY In another dimension, are we? Were we? Where are we? And what would we believe in? Group challenge-spirituality in another dimension in the Parallel Dimensions group. SPIRITUAL ART AND OPEN MINDEDNESS Some artists have contributed to the art forum for Spiritual Equality... Below is Tolerance by Katrina Prince Host of Spritual Art BLACK INKY WRITING There is particularly thought provoking written works in the group, this by the young Daath (soon to have a different name) Samael who was inpired by an image by burningark Daughter of Chaos by Daath Samael SPHERICAL DARKNESS The forever charming and quirky Empress has added a challenging Dark Arts thrill by challenging the members of the group to a writing challenge by the Short Stories and Spherical Scriptings Group…. to coincide with the June Soltice no less… This is her forum post Welcome to crime writing weekenders in the Short Story Group ... there’s one scheduled to coincide with the June solstice, surely a notable date on the Dark Arts calendar. Logo and Branding Project (Taking It To The Public)
by Carrie GlennBefore After !http://images-0.redbubble…
Before After Here’s my original painting before I converted it to a vector in Photoshop I want to share a project I am working all of my friends here at RedBubble. / I am re-designing a logo and creating a new branding for a local salon. / They are a “Vidal Sassoon” salon and pride themselves in having cutting edge techniques and skills. / I painted the logo, after eight or so pages of brush strokes and sitting on it a day I was drawn to the shape you see here. I photographed it and converted it to a vector in Photoshop. / Not only did the logo look like the word “In” from the companies name “In Color Salon” but it also seamed to look like flowing hair and or hair die. It ties together everything I want to convey for my client. The pop of the terracotta color combined with the blue circle is unique and eye catching to me. My customers really wanted a feminine yet bold and organic to their new identity. / It’s unique enough that they can grow with it and it can grow with them. Here are three different proposed web site comps. for the front page of the site design. Comp. 1 Comp. 2 Comp. 3 Also here is a mock up of what it will look like on their current signs. I would love to get your feedback so thanks for taking a look at this with me. I’m having a blast working on it! So what do you guys think? Take care! Xoxo

Have you been to the Redbubble Store yet? No? Then you are missing out. Get with the program, Go There NOW! 1. There’s still plenty of books available to purchase . / Once they are all gone, well, you’ll have missed out. I have my little piece of Redbubble history. I have my books. Got yours yet? 2. When buying Matte Prints of our work, you need to have a Reusable frame. / It makes sense. It’s the easiest way to display your available work: When the client wants to buy, you tell them this is a sample and we’ll order yours in. I tend to say three weeks … it arrives in two weeks, so you have a week to use it as a sample. Easy. It’s time to go shopping with Redbubble.

For the first time ever, I will be displaying prints of my photography at a public show this weekend, Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th. The Saint James Art Fair has thrived as the largest art fair in my entire home state of Kentucky (USA) for decades and I am extremely excited to have this opportunity to display my art and offer limited edition prints for sale of my original photography at a public venue for the first time. Here are just a few of the images that I will have on display at the show (each thumbnail is a link to the larger image size)… If you happen to be in Louisville, Kentucky this weekend (rare for most of you I realize, but certainly not all of you), please come out and visit my booth, which will be located on Magnolia Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets, directly behind the Mag Bar. If you’re unable to attend, please let me know what you think of these prints, which will displayed at the show. Thank you… Perspective / AKA – R. Jason Smith

Admiration Bubble (aka Admirabubble)

It’s been said that we all should promote the work of another artist on Redbubble. In the past I have hesitated, in fact I baulked at the suggestion that I would give free publicity to someone other than myself. Today I realised the folly of this: It’s not publicity, its admiration. / And it’s not a society as some suggest, because I gain nothing but humbleness, awareness, and a happy moment that will last a lifetime! Where was this thought born? To answer that, let me go back a little. When I first registered with Redbubble early in 2007, I quickly added a few favourite artists to my list. This includes such amazing artists as Lindsay , Lara , KathyT , Andrew , Sharon , Lisadee , Sharon , Deborah , Pete , Flamejob and Shane to name but a few artists whom I enjoy watching new work each week! Each of these artists have uploaded some truly amazing work that continues to inspire me to try something new with my camera, to go outside my preferred style and to see more of the Australian environment—which is always a good thing. I also added Joe to my favourite list. This was something about his art that caught my interest and looked vaguely familiar… Of course, I talk of Joe Mortelliti . We’ve all read about his sudden diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia and road to recovery, Darren Stone wrote a tear-invoking piece that reminds us all that mortality is short and that we are all but a pebble’s ripple upon a stormy-ocean. What I saw in Joe’s work was the similar scenes we both seem to be encountering around our area’s of Australia, from the outback scenery, the eucalyptic and mallee forestry that is found throughout the countryside and the artistic litter of many farmyards and stations. Joe regularly uploads work that inspires me to try more photographic-arenas, to match colours with the subject of the shot, plus see the frame of a photograph as a stage-performance where every corner says something different yet pertains to the entire shot. Rather than explain Joe’s style of photography, here are few samples that say it all. (Read more after the images) , , , , , , , I had plans to link to a WHOLE lot more, but figured the point was made. Joe is an amazing photo-artist. He is one of the few photographers who can find art in every location without pixel-manipulation. (Well, he probably does, but it’s subtle!) He is also a master of the focal-length and certainly knows how to pick the perfect moment of the day to capture the ideal colour of a location. Every time I see a new artwork in Joe’s collection, I carefully dissect every corner of it, and summarise what Joe has done for me. For me, because I, well, we are all a ‘Little Joe’. What I mean is, many of us are self-taught. Joe says in his profile, ‘I have no formal photographic training, simply self taught.’ From there, he has mastered what he enjoys and become one of the most inspiring photographers on RedBubble! Don’t know about you, but nothing more needs to be said. There you have it, my admirabubble (admiration bubble) goes to Joe Mortelliti . Thank you for reading. I hope to write similar pieces in the future, but Joe’s the main-man for now. Here is my ab-fab piece from his collection, at least for today:
