  • This textured and multi-layered abstract using bark is a good piece to project what you see in this vividly colored photograph. I often suggest images, but I thought this piece lended itself to your creative imagination and projections that like a Rorschach can elicit unconscious material. Like the 10 inkblots on a Rorschach, if you project images on 10 pieces, I can offer you feedback. A brief description of my experience using the Rorschach as a projective test is included in my biography. It also helps to tell a story about what you see. This piece shows best when viewed in the larger format. /

  • In the New Urban Environment of large acreage high development, every centimetre is a controlled surface, with the objective of symmetry and perfection. The eye is not allowed to see the slightest hint of natural anarchy, but nevertheless detects a total absence of connection with what lies beneath and beyond. And we keep it clean. And guarded. While shooting the building where these steps and stairs reside, from the footpath, I was approached by 2 security guards employed by the Jacksons Landing Community Association and asked what I was doing. Rather pointless really, given the large number of cameras which have filmed me while shooting my Urban Lines Project. They only had to watch their screens: Shot in RAW using a Canon EOS 10D and 28-90mm zoom lens at 70mm, ISO 100, f8, 1/125th of a second. ____ ____

  • This corridor at the Eden Project, Cornwall UK, caught my eye. / I was attracted by the lighting, the repetitive lines and the curve of the walls that lead your eye to….. who knows where! • Often when construction is in process, there are dumpsters for the material that is discarded. Some of these provide graffiti artists with / a wonderful surface on which they can express their collective art. Unlike my tree graffiti photographs, vibrant color is often used and there is a large space to create spontaneous images. Two examples of this urban art form in my portfolio are titled, “Life’s Deal” and “The Circle of Life.” Here is another example of the work of a group of artists who created, layer, by layer this graffiti image. What do you see in this highly textured and vibrantly colored canvas of symbolic images? As part of the projective play of interpreting what you see, I want to use your creativity in giving this piece a title. View this in the large form / to appreciate the imagery.

  • With the global economy caught in the gravity of the financial crisis, it’s sad that programs like the Constellation Project will have a long wait before anything truly gets off the ground. / / NASA’s Constellation Project is set up to finish the International Space Station, retire the Shuttle Fleet and build a whole new fleet of space vehicles which will take us back to the Moon, then Mars and then the places beyond. / / But with Congressional limitations and funding cutbacks due to the financial crisis, as well as being stuck with a complicated and restrictive “go as you pay” finance structure it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any groundbreaking manned space flights in the naughties. / / This image represents a fleeting memory of a childhood dream to see man explore our planets and then the stars beyond and it’s one of the few things as a child I looked up to America for. / / The universe is a big place and we’re yet to make it out of our solar system but without programs like the Constellation Project, man may never ever get to make another giant leap. / / DETAIL / / / /

  • For the ART ACTION UNION – CREATIVE ACTIVISM group’s / URSA FREEDOM PROJECT FOR MOON BEARS challenge There is No Mark Up on this T-shirt ” WE WANT TO END BILE FARMING OF BEARS… / The Practice of bile farming is unnessary… beautiful bears are poached from the wild and tortuously bred in captivity wile they are ‘milked’ of their stomach acids for ‘traditional’ products for which there are synthetic alternatives available… “ AAU Make a donation here ” As many as 10,000 Asiatic black bears in China are locked in cages the size of their own bodies, and their bile is drained through an excruciatingly painful procedure and sold for use in traditional medicine. So they can approach the bears without fear of injury, the farmers often mutilate the bears by breaking their teeth and pulling out their claws, sometimes brutally removing whole digits. “ source They also use it in the production of some cosmetics…How F@#cked is that!!!

  • Acrylic on Canvas 75×100cm. (Commission – Original Sold) A snippet from my blog 21 April 2009 / Painting Commission – Claudia’s Gift A couple of months ago I was asked to do a rather unusual commission. I say unusual because the buyer saw a painting of mine on the internet. They considered purchasing it, but after much deliberation decided instead to commission a work. The original inspiration for their commission being my painting ‘Between Takes’ as pictured below. / ! / http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/backingcolor:white/product:greeting-card/view:preview/2340565-4-between-takes.jpg! The young buyer (through her Mum’s wallet) had several requests and thankfully they put them all together in a brief for me which I worried about being able to stick to. / Here’s a snippet of that brief: / She likes the female in Between Takes because she is: / -Pretty, elegant and sassy with delicate features, yet she is fun, bold and out there / -She is wearing a very fashionable/designer/funky outfit (very youthful appearance with use of the striped legs) / -She loves the white fluff of the skirt, it is interesting and softens the outfit beautifully / -it is a full body painting and not just a head and torso / -it is simple and clean with not too much distraction, it is very much about the girl / -she’s not wearing any jewellery / -fun dramatic/theatrical feel / -bold yet delicate/beautiful detail / -she loves the colours and in particular the lime green/yellow background / Colours she likes: / -pink/purple/lime yellow/lime green/black/gray/silver/white / Other Preferences: / -Medium length layered hair/colour similar to By The Light Of The Silver Moon (no fringe/medium brown with purple/other coloured streaks) / -Eye colour being hazel/green / -Devon Rex Tigerlily Purple (larger female cat) / -Cat not to dominate painting / We did wonder if we could incorporate fashionable fairy wings in her designer outfit (fluff and silver leaf perhaps)?! Commissions can be difficult because they normally come after a painting that has been painted intuitively. I tend to just paint and enjoy the process and let my instincts lead me. With commissions there is much more work on a conscious level – and the challenge is in being able to please the buyer, stick to the brief, maintain a sense of spontanaity and most importantly not to compromise one’s own style and enjoyment. After all, a painting done without love and enjoyment is not a painting worth owning. One only needs to look at the thousands of cheap mass produced paintings being produced in Asia and then later easily discarded when the decor is changed. I strongly feel that work of this type diminishes the value of one off pieces painted with love and care, not to mention that these are potential artists with much to offer the world, churning our mass produced cheap pieces because of the need to support their families. / / So, with all this in mind, and me being well and truly a month over the patient client’s requested deadline, I present to you “Claudia’s Gift”. One thing must be said and that is that the photograph doesn’t do this painting justice. The small elements of silver leaf, pearlescent effect and subtle textures are lost and flattened out in the digital image. However, I think the photograph still enables the viewer to enjoy an overall sense of the completed artwork. Thank You as always for visiting… and stay safe. x Carmen.
