I took a picture. I was up in North Wales visiting the in-laws, which is always a good opportunity to go out and take a few shots. I love walking out in Snowdonia, and they live right at its northernmost edge. So up the hills I went and then down into the next valley – walking in Wales is like that. Llanfairfechan was where I ended up. In a shady little spot with a lovely rock-strewn river running under a wooden bridge. This was a perfect opportunity to try out some long-exposure water shots. You know, the kind that make the water go all silky. But… ah… no tripod. Find a rock. Something conveniently sited, at a good, low angle and… click. So I took a few and moved on. Once we got back to the Island, where I live, I downloaded the pics fairly confident that I would get something useable. But no. The Electronic Viewfinder had let me down again (they have a tendency to do that) and as usual had made things look more crisp than they really were. But there was one shot. One that just might be useable. Fiddled with contrast, fiddled with saturation, cropped, generally mucked about with. No dice. There was only one way to rescue this. Go mad… So I upped the saturation waaay up. I put in some vignetting, changed the colour balance and put on a film grain filter, messed about with the contrast and came up with THIS Suddenly, a photograph that was lost, seems to have become acceptable. But is that amount of post-processing right? Is any post-processing right? Is the software taking over the skills of composition and care. In short are computers making photographers lazy? Why bother composing when you can take a shot and crop it? Why bother with correct exposures when you can dicker about with it later? I wish I had the answers. But I don’t. Art is so damn subjective…
you know..

It’a about high art, critics, creativity, outsiders, snobs and weird artists generally.

457X610mm / Acrylic on canvas Inspired by traditional Japanese art I decided to explore the elusive yet beautiful world of being a Geisha. / “Geisha” ( pronounced ‘Gay-sha’ ) means artist in Japanese. The ‘real’ Geisha was not a common prostitute, the first Geishas were men who entertained patrons through artistry. The Geisha evolved into being the role of a woman in Japan, holding the equivalent status to celebrities today for their time. / The different forms of art they performed were tea ceremonies, dancing, calligraphy, painting, music, not to mention they were and still are walking pieces of art. Hence, these amazing iconic figures have inspired paintings with a contemporary edge. / Nicole Whitty / WhittyARt BUY Whitty ARt products at: zazzle.com/whittyart*

Hi All Whilst I posted my top 5 most viewed art, I thought it best to show the other side of my work to see if it was just a slow day on redbubble or if the photo really does not warrant many views. Number 1 – 65 Views / Number 2 – 73 Views / Number 3 – 73 Views / Number 4 – 74 Views / Number 5 – 83 Views / Anyway I hope some you you enjoys these as well. I do.
Model/MUA – Atrophy / Dress by Howard Showers I heart pools. I never had one, which might explain why I like throwing clothed models in them for the sake of art. Copyright 2008 Harmony Nicholas

Putting tags on your work is the most important thing to consider when up loading work to redbubble, so you should think about setting up a system for working this through. Of late I have seen a lot of people complaining about tag spamming on RB, it is a way of life on the internet but if I put in that I am looking for “Irish wolfhound” and then you show me a photo of an oil rig you can be sure it will be the last time I look at your work! Then I got to thinking maybe some of the people that are “tag spamming” for the wrong reasons, maybe they have been ill informed about how to use tags thinking that more is better. Then there are people on RB that English is a second language for them, for those of you that do not speak a second language English is back to front too nearly every other language in the world. If this site was in Russian or French I would not be here even though I lived and worked in both countries for many years. What is a tag? It is a label or description yes but it is more than that it is the way that buyers find what they would like to buy! If you were to look at any good internet marketing forum you would see a lot of postings about “niche marketing” if they are selling “Irish wolfhound hair loss powder” then that is the tag they use not dog, elephant or oil rig! They do not want a billion hits a day from people that want to know about elephants, they would rather have 100 hits a month from people that would like to buy hair loss treatment for Irish wolfhounds! Many internet marketers make 6 figure incomes, some make 7 figure incomes, and how do they do this? Not by spamming but by making their product so hard to find that unless you really want to buy it you will not find it, strange but true. To the REAL spammers, you are scum and we will get you! To the accidental unintentional spammers, learn and grow. And to the ones that are worried about spammers, find them and report them but remember they could be unintentional spammers. Some of the things that I and you should do before adding tags to your work, also remember that the better the are tags are the higher ranking we get. • Work out what tags you are going to be before you start to up load your work. / • If you are finding it hard to come up with tags try using a thesaurus (Ctrl+F7 in word). / • Do not do it in one sitting, give it a day or so and have another look at the tags. / • If you are not sure about a word then do a search on RB and see what you get. / • Remember that many words have more than one meaning, so try and find a better word. / • Some words have different spellings around the world “color & colour” use both. / • Still looking for more tags, why not put down the Latin name for that flower? Veni vidi vici, hay not just Latin why not German, French and Italian as well. I hope that this has been of use to some people. / Martin

I want to take a second out of design time and uploading t-shirts to explain to YOU in the most simplest of ways how AMAZING Redbubble is. This post will hopefully inspire you to become involved in many ways within this amazing website. I’m going to try something a bit different and write the rest of this post about my day on redbubble, with a SLANG theme…just to show you that these are my thoughts and words and I mean them very much and also because it’s a lot of fun! - Redbubble = Sik. Like totally. I mean like you hop on the net, pop open the homepage and check out some awesome art and stuff. There’s pics of people wearing some shirts and holding some art, new IN-YOUR-FACE designs, GROUPS overloading with creativity and a cool COMMUNITY. That’s what keeps me here; the COMMUNITY I mean. Like, I upload a fresh design, slam on some links in the description and send it off to a few GROUPS. Then, after it’s all uploaded, I wander over to some fresh stuff, show my respects by dropping some comments and favouriting the work and if it’s totally mind blowing I may even add the artist to my WATCHLIST (coz you never know what cool designs will come next!). I pop back to MYBUBBLE every now and then to check out the progress of my latest design and WHAMMO! Usually I have at least one comment that I can enjoy and REPLY to; It’s all about the REPLY people! Most of the times the comments are awesome, even if they are only a sentence long, and they inspire me to keep smashing it up! If for some reason I don’t have a comment on my new piece (probably coz its only been 1 minute) I go and check out more cool new works on the BUB. When I find some more slamming pieces I send off a few BUBBLEMAILS directly to the artists letting them know how SIK I think their work is! Then I might read one of the latest BACKSTAGE posts from the main REDBUBBLE PEEPS behind the scenes and get totally inspired again to create some new stuff! So if creating art for a website inspires you to create more art – How could you not love it! With love, Diesel Laws Follow me on Redbubble and also: / WHY DO YOU LOVE REDBUBBLE? Go on, drop a comment >

Macro urban abstract of details of decaying wooden post commonly used in Puerto Rico to support electricity and telephone lines. I found this old beauty near an abandoned house. It shows signs of weather and humidity. /
The time after mom left was hard, but dad always found a way to show us a good time. In the spring, he would take Jess, Nix, Potter (my sister, cat, and terrier) and I out to the open space and we would fly kites. Is that a UFO? Actually a parking lot post behind the Iris/30th shopping complex in Boulder, CO

With my husband and toddlers going out of the country I’ve been a little busy with life. Now that they are at their destination I miss them terribly, but I must make do with what I can. It definitely allows me to catch up on all the creative fires I need to stoke. Please check out my latest blog entry – a late better than never tribute to veterans. With everything going on across the globe the last few years, decade really, I wish we spent more time focusing on the souls of those that dedicate their life to their people. To view a few great pieces of art along with a little sentiment, please see my blog touched by fire. Peace and love, / Pj
