This is a self-portrait of myself inspired by the art I always saw growing up as a Catholic. Just wondered how I might appear as a saint…...☺ / The original work was completed with watercolor and gouache media on Arches cold-press cotton rag.

I use it to do my stomach crunches and sit-ups. I remembered the movie, “The Professional” and decided to belt myself to the edge of my bed to do my sit-ups, the way Leon did in the movie, until my new stability ball arrived. I ended up hooking a bunch of belts together and thought to myself “Hey, that would make an awesome photo prop!” and the Belted series was conceived. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / visit the rest of this series . . . / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / View All Art » 1 2 3 4 5 6 browse Jaeda’s photographic art by category: / dreamscapes, artistic nudes, couples, glamour, erotica, conceptual, sensual, portrait, spiritual, survivor art / /

self portrait
My latest self-portrait; I am my art and my art is myself. Original work is 18”x24”, acrylic paint on masonite panel.
was going through some old photos and came across this one, feeling a little braver so figured i would post it, took this shot (by mistake) when I was doing this ‘self portrait’ for the Fred Hollows Foundation / A group of redbubblers have gotten behind this great cause and made a Calendar. /
oil on canvas / 2009
Drew this for a self-portrait contest. This is also my first ever self-portrait, beyond a couple of exercises in art classes when I was younger. I obviously took some liberties here ;) I didn’t get some aspects of the portrait quite right (the nose and the chin are not quite right for example, and I have a much paler skin tone), but this is perhaps how I would look in another reality ;) Mixed media on heavy textured purple watercolor paper (Canson). Original measures 19×12.5” Featured on the Home Page. September 5th 2009. View more of my artwork at www.lynnetteshelley.com
/ / Best viewed large / / Detail / Self Portrait for the Happy Challenge in which you have to rate yourself on a scale from 1-10 (1 being seriously depressed, 10 being the happiest) and then create self-portrait expressing that state. Any artistic medium/technique is allowed. Hmmm I’m thinking glass half full at the moment, and enjoying all the colours of the rainbow in Inner Child, so i shall rate myself as a reserved 7.0… the painting is a reflection of myself at my most peaceful, daydreaming as I tend to do often…. The painting began as a pencil drawing on cardboard, using chalk pastels and charcoal to lightly fill in the flesh tones, finished off the piece adding to it digitally in Photoshop. / Here it is prior to photoshop. / The portrait looks quite serious, which is translating as sadness, and I can see what everyone’s saying.. but I was happy at the time. The Challenge is now open for entries. Voting starts in 20 days.
Sometimes coming home means seeing clearly for the first time where you’ve really been. / Mixed emotions – 5/10 / For the Happy challenge

My spiritual self portrait, entered into the Happy Challenge now I’ve cropped to fit the template / detail I have been affirmed by my sister Missy today in a lovely phone call…. so…I am today a 10/10 on the Happiness Scale / Here is the design in all it’s fullness, i think there are 164 affirmations there in total. This is for you…Missy, my affirmation of you… I love you, I love my family, I love my friends here on Red Bubble and elsewhere, I love all the staff…..this is my thank you…. all these wishes I wish for you, all these affirmations are my heart for you… my prayer for you, be bold, be strong…. perservere, be you cos i want you all to know that I see the Light Surrounding You and I thank the ones who’ve been there to Watch Over Me you know well who you are :) This self portrait is purely spiritual. The Irony was not lost on me with this one. this was by far the most frustrating thing I have ever created. / I had envisioned a completely different shot to this when i came up with the concept. But it just wouldn’t work, no matter what i did it just would not co-operate and work out how it should. I tried everything to get what i wanted, i couldn’t get the perspective right, i couldn’t get the framing right, i couldn’t get the composition right, the hair and wardrobe didn’t look how it should, Strongest hair gel you can get my ass… it was all so fucking frustrating… once i got sick of trying and failing and wanting to put the axe through my camera and head, i decided to go a completely different route, this is that route…. I do like this shot though, its quite different than what i had in mind, but it works. One day i will do it again, and it will work…. it better… / . / I’m sure many of you can relate to this idea, this isn’t just a reflection of Artist against their Art, the art is our world, and we get so frustrated when it doesn’t work out, lately I have been feeling quite down and out over events and thoughts I’ve been thinking about non stop, so i decided to make this… / .
