  • The mischievous pixie NiaTa knelt beside the forbidden pool; she had abandoned her duty to trick intruders away from the woods, (or, if she was so inclined, to their deaths) and her incorrigible curiosity had led her to the glittering water. / Her wings fluttered with excitement as she reached out to touch her reflection. The other spirits of the woods whispered among themselves at the disturbance. / Ripples formed and NiaTa withdrew her hand, horrified at what she’d done… I’ve been creating some characters recently for painting inspiration, and I thought I’d draw this pixie character! I wanted to achieve a very speedy and painterly effect (which contrary to how it sounds, is pretty tricky and time consuming if you go into all the details) and though some of the trees seem off to me, I’m pretty happy with it. / Enjoy! =) Tools: Photoshop and Wacom / Time Consumed: Lost track. Definitely over ten hours… over about two weeks. / Reference: Gorgeous picture of a transparent butterfly I found on the ‘net (for the wings of course): butterfly reference / Art ©AmberDust 2007

  • I paintaed this in acrylic on canvas.

  • I bought some Singh Ray filters mid November. I did not get a chance to try them out until after Xmas – says a lot about the mad rush leading up to this period of the year. After using them I am in awe as to how effective they are. I saw it in a vision. I suppose you could also say it’s my subconscious viewpoint on on life, mankind, nature and our current economic situation. Fate later connected me with Peter Oszmann and his succinct poem, it was like our work was destined for eachother’s” – Carrie Glenn “A Fish Out Of Water” / Poem by Peter. J. Oszmann Nature is wise, but Mankind… just bumbling fools. Learn from the living, watch water in motion, Don’t waste your time staring at small stagnant pools. Fish are content to live their life in water, Water is after all their life’s element. There’s no need for them to be an “achiever,” Living, staying alive… that’s accomplishment. But there was one fish wanting something “better”, He wanted “achievement,” he wanted a “first.” He leapt out of water, fins in quick flutter, Taking fast to the sky… but soon died of thirst… / / Peter. • / Half coloured image, thanks to gottheshot fellow bubbler and friend for the idea / Greeting Card / in Walnut frame with off white matt / The original drawing prior to adding colour in photoshop Blue Pools / from the “Connecting” series / Created on A3 cartridge paper acid free / a pencil drawing / coloured in photoshop Last night I was trying to think of an idea, or some inspiration for a new drawing, just before bedtime, my husband said blue pools, but i have idea what the context was lol That was enough for me, i thought immediately of blue eyes and a girl submerged in blue pools of water…... here she is ;)

  • A black and white pastel on black acid free paper of the beautiful, cascading Horseshoe Waterfalls, Australia. What delight we felt when we first discovered this. It was located at the end of our street where we used to live and was only a 5 minute walk, that took us to a peaceful place where we could forget the world for a while. It is still only a 10 minute drive away. Waterfalls are usually geological formations resulting from water, often in the form of a stream flowing over an erosion-resistant rock that forms a nickpoint or sudden break in elevation. Whatever the description waterfalls are a natural wonder and there are some breathtaking ones all over the world. The waterfall drops its sparkling veil / covering its rock face leaving slippery trails / twinkling drops of water bursting in the light / its beauty never ending even at night! • I love rainy, overcast, windy days. Someone has to, I suppose. The pink/purple of the fireweed has yet to reach its full splendor. As Alaskan legend has it, when fireweed blooms all the way to the top of its spire – the six-week countdown to winter begins. Some of us can hardly wait. It felt great to get out in the elements! • This is my first attempt playing with food dye, water and my computer monitor as a brightly lit backdrop. See here for how I created this shot. (The stack of dvds were implemented after this shot was taken) / / This was pretty damn difficult without a tripod or assistant.. One hand holding the camera , one hand holding the dropper, full of dye. Having to get focus on the camera, hold it straight, shoot and drop the dye at once.. I need a tripod haha! / / I had heaps of fun trying to make this work though. Soon learning that dropping the dye closer to the front of the glass allowed for more clarity in the shot. / / The next step will be multiple colours, but not till a tripod is involved lol. Featured in Color & Light / Featured in Out Of The Blue / Featured in The Beginners Corner / / Slight crop of original, adjustment of brightness and contrast for colour control. / / Canon 50D / 58mm, 18 – 55 / f5, 1/320, ISO 1600 / / MCN:CRR2W-5HDN9-7U4H3

  • Round two of the Rainbow Drowning project. See here for how I created this shot. (The stack of dvds were implemented after this shot was taken) / / Was holding the camera portrait for these ones, to get a bit more depth and length in the shots. The dye squirted harder than expected, causing a fast and long rippling effect in the water. / / Loved the contrast between light and dark in these ones and the background blur too. / / Crop of original shot, with adjustment of brightness and contrast. No other enhancements to this series. Featured in The Male Photographer / / Canon 50D / 58mm, 18 – 55 / F5.6, 1/80, ISO 400 / / / / / / MCN:CW9F2-AMK6S-WPAKR
