I decided cause i feel so strongly about the issue of creative censorship to repost a response I just made to Graeme and his alert for the Trolls posting in appropriate comments….... / .........yep no-one wants inappropriate posting, I get that…BUT we are creative people here….. and creative comes in all unique forms….the most obnoxiously raw person I ever met was a punk goth pierced lunatic looking hermaphrodite…..this guy you wouldnt walk down same side of street as him and language was from another galaxy……...BUT his art….OH MY GOD his art was absolutely awesome…beyond description his illustrative technique…….....now my suggestion is….a warning system of some kind……or complaints option……but please dont censor the unacceptable….the offbeat…the new generation of outrageousness…..the wild creativity of Generation X…whilst we may not appreciate it….or even understand, its imput is valid and needed, cause, I for the most part are far too much a product of age and culture and need to see graffiti, new wave, wild exccentrisms and the off beat……ALL HAIL THE CREATIVE SPIRIT even if its offensive…..hey but I am not condoning targeting comments but I am begging for non censorship !!!!!!even in open debate and the written word…… / I would add that the good naturedness that is associated with kindness and integrity that is here in the redbubble world should be protected at all costs…......maybe this forms a contradiction but I dont think so…..

Hi everyone, I’ve been reading some blogs, and admiring people’s art/photography/tshirts, and thoroughly enjoying the whole RB experience. As addictive as it is! What I would like to know is what is it that people want to achieve by uploading their work on RB? Is it purely sales? Is it the touchy feely positive comments? Is it the notoriety of being a featured artist on the home page? I’ll tell you why I’m here – I get a buzz from seeing my images on this website. Simple as that. I look at a lot of people’s images, and try my hardest to meet the same standards they have achieved. Sometimes, the equipment they use, and the techniques they employ are listed – so i can see what I’m up against. At the moment, I’m using my 10 year old son’s compact digital camera and photshop to fix up the shortfalls. (My 19 year old Canon SLR is in dire need of a service/overhaul, so I’m saving up for a new camera – but nothing fancy, as this is a hobby – remember, I dabble…) In my mind I can see what I would like to create, but it quite often doesn’t work that way. What I also thought RB was about, was about people giving constructive feedback. All I’ve seen is nice, positive comments – which is great, too. I haven’t seen anyting that I would classify as negative or nasty or derogative. I have come across the odd woeful image, and am astounded at some comments that people leave on these images, and wonder whether they’re taking the piss out of that person, or whether I’m really missing the point altogether… So, this is how it is for me…If you come across one of my images, please bear in mind the following: 1. I’m using a Canon A450 compact camera that I fight over with my son. 2. I do use photoshop, and have no idea what I’m doing until I hit the buttons. I have not training in photoshop or any other digital program. 3. I am NOT an artist, this is purely and simply a hobby of mine that I have enjoyed on and off for over 20 years. I do not aspire to be an artist, and would never put myself in the same category as many of the talented artists on RB. RB please note: maybe there should be a separate section for the likes of me, so that potential clients of the true artists who rely on RB sales for their income don’t come across images of the more amatuer RB’er, and therefore they won’t be put off buying art. 4. I love taking photos of anything and everything. I have no formal training in photography – except if you count 1 term of beginner’s photography that i did almost 13 years ago. It was 1 night a week for 2 hours, and no, nothing sunk in – I still get muddled up over all the terminology. 5. I invite you to browse my images and comment on those you feel you’d like to. Whether those comments mean you leave positive feedback, or some of your constructive criticisms, I will leave that up to you. I won’t be offended at the comments you leave. Just bear in mind the above 4 points when commenting. 6. The reason I have many of my images available for sale (even though this is only a hobby – and it will always be that way), is simply that my firneds and I may buy them. Some have already been bought, and all have been pleased with their purchase – the quality of the cards is exceptional. So there you are, I’ve been stewing over this for several days, and I’ve finally committed typed word to screen. I have opened up why I’m here. I understand that RB’ers are very passionate and protective of their work, there are some exceptional images on this site (some I’ve even added to my favourites!), and I feel very honoured my images are accepted on RB. So, tell me, why are you here? what do you want to achieve? What sorts of comments do you look for? I might see you around, Red Bubbling away! BFN, dabble : )

I found out about this ludicrous proposed law on Red Bubble...
I found out about this ludicrous proposed law on Red Bubble and wanted to let everyone else know what they can do about it! If you have not heard about the Orphan Works Act, then you should research it and speak out before it is too late (especially if you are an artist, writer, and/or musician)! No, this Act is not about displaced children or found animals. It revolves around works of art (including fine art, photography, writing, music, etc.) that are not registered with newly proposed agencies. ANY work not registered would be considered in the public domain. This is a dangerous concept and just goes to show how greedy and capitalistic our society, government, and big businesses have become. According to GoPetition.com: “If the Orphan Works legislation passes, you and I and all creatives will lose virtually all the rights to not only our future work but to everything we’ve created over the past 34 years, unless we register it with the new, untested and privately run (by the friends and cronies of the U.S. government) registries. Even then, there is no guarantee that someone wishing to steal your personal creations won’t successfully call your work an orphan work, and then legally use it for free. In short, if Congress passes this law, YOU WILL LOSE THE RIGHT TO MAKE MONEY FROM YOUR OWN CREATIONS!” We would be forced into a world where big business can bully us and use whatever they wanted and not be penalized for it. And, this law not only affects artists, writers, and musicians. It also affect the everyday consumer! If you are planning to get your the photographs of your cousin’s wedding developed at a Wal-Mart or other big box retailer, then you better be prepared to get every image copyrighted or you may just end up seeing them on Wal-Mart’s billboards! Gone would be the days of having rights the minute you create something. Now, if you don’t pay to protect it, then it is like no one created the image and it is up for grabs! Who wants to live in this kind of world other than greedy politicians and businesses? And, it does not surprise me that this has all happened under the Bush administration. Who were the idiots that voted for him and thought he would do us some good? Well, seems like the joke’s on YOU! In an April 10th article in Animation World Magazine, award-winning animation producer/director and speaker, Mark Simon, writes: “It is currently against international law to coerce people to register their work for copyright because there are so many inherent problems with it. But because big business can push through laws in the United States, our country is about to break with the rest of the world, again, and take your rights away. With the tens of millions of photos and pieces of artwork created each year, the bounty for forcing everyone to pay a registration fee would be enormous. We lose our rights and our creations, and someone else makes money at our expense. This includes every sketch, painting, photo, sculpture, drawing, video, song and every other type of creative endeavor. All of it is at risk! If the Orphan Works legislation passes, you and I and all creatives will lose virtually all the rights to not only our future work but to everything we’ve created over the past 34 years, unless we register it with the new, untested and privately run (by the friends and cronies of the U.S. government) registries. Even then, there is no guarantee that someone wishing to steal your personal creations won’t successfully call your work an orphan work, and then legally use it for free.” So, what can you do about it? Well educate yourself on the issues, write to your congress men and women, and sign as many petitions as your can. / / Why Red? / I love accenting images with Red because red is the color of pain, the color of love, of stolen innocence, it is the color that flows during birth when a woman brings life into this world, it is often the color that flows out of us as we leave this earth. Today i am sharing part one of, “The Bride of Innocence”. The backgrounds you see are from the balcony pics i took during the daytime. WHAT THE LOSS OF INNOCENCE ISN’T My fellow creative Marny Barnes offered me some words that were powerful and rang true: I refuse to beleive that you don’t hold a peice of that innocene still…somewhere in all that torture you were strong enough to keep some of that innocence safe and just for you. AND I will tell you why I think that. YOU STILL see beauty all around you, / You bleed beauty and innocence out of all your work, / You touch the beauty in the torture and the pain and it grows roses…and color….and ART. If you had no innocence, you would not see the world and other peoples art with such wonder. I SEE INNOCENCE IN YOU. / YOUR HEART IS PURE AND BEAUTIFUL. YOUR ART IS BEAUTIFUL. / THE WORDS YOU LEAVE TO INSPIRE OTHERS / (ON YOUR OWN WORK…..AND THEIRS) IS BEAUTIFUL There is a mourning for the innocence i never got to have or experience as a child. / That is part of what makes incest and sexual abuse so painful. HOWEVER . . . / Marny brought to the light of my consciousness, something i failed to realize and address in my work . . . That my sweetness, my love, did not die when i was abused. It is still at my core and at my essence. My love of sweet joys remain, my softness, light, grace and hope. And these are aspects i will seek to express in my future survivor-orientated work. And i thank you Marny so much for bringing that to the surface of my consciousness. THE CONCEPTION / The Bride of Innocence (Jaeda as the Brides) was conceived back toward the end of May. That’s when construction workers put up scaffolding and started tearing down the supports on my 3rd story balcony and tarped it off. The construction guys worked a few days on my balcony, tearing stuff down, said something about needing to get permits – due to structural damage . . . and they haven’t been back since. So i decided i would get some pictures, now that my balcony is double long (they tore down the wall that separates my neighbor and me). Everything was bathed in a surreal blue light, from the tarp. The scaffolding was also double long and it looked like an endless hallway leading to the land of dreams, to heaven, anything your imagination can conjure up. The balcony itself looked very sad, broken and i kind of liked it’s decayed appeal and thought, at least i could use this to my advantage, creatively! So i went out on my balcony, during the day and night, and took lots of pictures. At night the tarped scaffolding resembled a boat marina or harbor at night. It looked so very different from, the hallway to heaven, of daylight. Previous to the balcony pictures, i had taken some studio pics of me in a makeshift bridal gown. I borrowed the bridal veil from my sister. Ripped the satin bottom off of an old nightgown for the top and used a sheer window treatment panel for the gown part/bottom because i don’t sew! LOL The bridal pictures i took of myself in the studio are what popped into my head as i was photographing the balcony and “The Bride of Innocence” was conceived. It is a slightly sad, disturbing series . . . but i wanted the next series i created to be along the lines of my Red Jane series. I felt like digging deep into all the little nooks and crannies of my soul and Spirit. All of those dark, repressed places that cry out to be acknowledged and expressed. partake and enjoy PEACE and LIGHT / j a e d a :) The Bride of Change The Bride of CHANGE / Peers through the isolating veil of pain and abuse – she is vulnerable / Her weakness is her strength because she OVERCOMES For she will no longer succumb to a tainted existence / Nor the toxic relationships, that leave dark stains on her soul / She knows . . .these ghosts of perversion and possession must go And the red of pain mixes with pink whispers of hope / She summoning the strength / To reach out, start anew and become WHOLE © Jaeda DeWalt listen to Jaeda recite The Bride of Change / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- The Bride of Innocence Pretty in Pink / She softly mourns for the bride she never got to be / No pristine, white gown for this lovely lady / She will never be the Bride of INNOCENCE She does not seek what she can not be given . . . / For innocence is the one gift, / That once stolen, / Can never be replaced yet the loss is forgiven © Jaeda DeWalt listen to Jaeda recite The Bride of Innocence / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- The Bride of Pain The Bride of PAIN is stuck inside / A blurry nightmare / As her subconscious rewinds her past / And plays it for her – over and over again . . . I’m sure you’ve all seen the article that RB posted earlier today (or maybe yesterday) about the site being featured on the Australian morning show 9AM With David & Kim. The video can be seen here I was lucky enough to be one of the artists who made an appearance during the story (albeit for about 2 seconds!). It was such a lovely surprise and honour – particularly because I’ve only just started using this site in the last week. So I’m writing this to say thank you to RB for featuring one of my photos and for all the groups who have also featured my work in the last week. And even more importantly, thank you to all of you who have been supporting my work already, with watches, faves and thoughtful comments. You’ve all given me a really wonderful welcome to the site, and your support means a great deal to me. What a fantastic resource and community this site is, it’s wonderful to be surrounded by like minded artists to share inspiration, ideas and encouragement. I really look forward to seeing more incredible work from you all! Thank you again for your support! Cheers, / Damienne Life Is In The Details III is the photo that was lucky enough to be featured by RB and 9AM.

RedBubble claims to be an open and inclusive website where you can share your creative genius with the world, but with the new RedBubble book publication ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, it might leave people wondering where this creative genius got to in this instance. Mind you, the only people left wondering will be the people that haven’t got their grubby little hands on ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, everyone else will be enthralled as they flip the pages and allow themselves to be reduced to tears, anger, laughter, smiles, and deep thought time and time again. At first sight, ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’ seems like the perfect collectors item. A perfect square measuring 21.5 cm in all directions, and the spine labelled with the source and title, it would seem that the exterior design was thought through for the avid book collector. It’s not only bright and airy, but the aesthetics of the cover make you feel at ease and loved. Now sitting on the train and heading to college, I manage to be publicly seduced and buckle to the passionate gestures of ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’. The exquisite craftsmanship continues, with each captivating image and inspiring literature, matching perfectly to tell a story that might otherwise be lost. Someone made an effort and it certainly shows. The typeface has also been perfectly selected to match the theme and only add to the experience, it isn’t distracting and I don’t have to squint or learn another language to read it. Sure there are plenty of thought provoking images to immerse yourself in, but I say it once again, the literature that accompanies is a match made in heaven. Don’t take my word for it though, because as I sit here on a peak hour train critiquing ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, it seems I have some new-found friends reading along with me. The IT guy to my left, the somewhat hungover looking blondie to my right, and the people I can’t see but can feel breathing on my neck behind me (I know you’re there). I do have one hang up though, and it could be one of personal preference, but I was disappointed that the links to each artist where at the back of ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, as opposed to being directly beneath the featured art or literature piece. It might sound picky, but as a matter of convenience, it would allow the reader to more freely access their favorite artist or writer and go view their other works online. The works from the RedBubble community collected in this book illuminate the power of Compassion, Courage, and Friendship. They show us that when we go beyond our fears and truly see someone different to us, we look at something that can set us free. In concluding this review, I asked Sandra Iov, a fellow photography student to critique two images in ‘Compassion, Courage, and Friendship’, and here are her two favorites and an explanation of why: I Dreamt Of An Angel II by chrisdade “I like the contrast between the straight lines and the sharpness of the surroundings in comparison to the softness of the skin and shadows of the boys. I like the idea that although they may be perceived as homosexuals, it plays against the idea of their sin with the angel wings. It says what they do is not a sin.” – Sandra Brothers by Jinx “The older boy is keeping the younger brother safe from the darkness in the background. The bridge leads to the unknown and they look like they’re about to take that journey together. The contrast between the light on the boys and that of the forest is powerful.” – Sandra

For sale from the Redbubble store The book arrived wrapped in plastic, and with a close fitting sleeve, so you know it’ll be able to be kept dust-free (an important consideration if you’re a slob like me.) Black satin-finish cover with the title in gloss, beautifully presented, as we’ve grown to expect from the experts at Vanzella Design. Quality is (to my inexperienced eyes) exceptional, the thick pages feel smooth and the prints look wonderful! There are some stories in amongst the images, my favourite would have to be kandelaarsstraat by bellmusker. Bell’s writing always gives me pause. Only a couple of paintings are included, but are both exceptional! Snowy Day by J Anderson (which appears to have been cropped slightly, unfortunately,) and The Future by Rebecca Roberts. The rest of the images are photographs, with varying degrees of manipulation. My favourites are below, in no particular order. My address is Brisbane, but I rarely visit the central business district of my city, so it’s a treat to see these fabulous sights from all around the world. This is an outstanding addition to the Redbubble community bookstand, and I’d have to say it is very much recommended buying. psirri, athens by kostas kallivretakis Spirit of Sydney by Juilee Pryor robot rights by sjem Tokyo – Ginza Crossing by sparrowhawk City shadow by Silvia Ganora The Pool by Hans Kawitzki You can buy your copy here
