This is a collection of my 13 Top Viewed Fine Art Pieces. All have over 2000 views and all have at least one sale. / I am following in the footsteps of Hidemi Tada, Jim Phillips and others who have come up with the GREAT IDEA for Calendars made from our top viewed work. What an ideal gift for yourself or buy it early and since all of the reproduction work from RB is of the best quality (at least in my experience) ...each month’s image is suitable for framing. / More ways to have great gifts for this fast approaching Hoilday Season. / Hope you enjoy the collection…Below is a sampling of front and back and several of the months… formal Calendar publication to follow. I want to also add that some of the originals of these pieces are available for sale… Time to clean out the Fine Art Warehouse here in the desert…so B-Mail me if interested, for a list of available originals and prices. Thanks for viewing, / Susan

I use oil pastels sometimes wet and other times dry. Depending on what I am painting on. Different things I paint on with oil pastels include paper, canvas, and wood. Although you could paint on other objects as you would with oils. Some surfaces I work on I use a primer like gesso. / I blend most of my colors directly on the surface I am using most of the time. Sometimes I layer colors on a palette to blend if I am using paper or canvas. I use turpentine sometimes to keep the mixture from drying out. I also use a wet brush to mix thin washes and paint directly from the oil pastel sticks. I also use the sticks directly on the paper and do a light wash over with turpentine to give a different effect. / Another technique I use with oil pastels as well as crayons is to layer several colors on top of one another then scraping shapes to reveal the under colors. I like this techniques effect very much.

I just found out that my poem Night Tiger and my new pastel picture Sunset Tiger has been made a double feature by the fabulous Tiger Tiger group. / / / Many many thanks you guys, a triple feature, wow i am delighted to have all three pieces featured, i am in total shock and walking on air, dawnxxx I do so worry about their lack of numbers on this planet belonging to us all, dawnxx Tiger’s with your eyes so bright, / They can see well into the night, / What do they do before the light, / Dont be there, they’ll give you a fright. Tiger’s with their story to be told, / What makes thier stance so very bold, / They took the land, they tried to hold, / To them this land is worth more than gold. Tiger’s with such golden hair, / What would we do without you there, / Stories could be told of your tiger’s lair, / We want your history to always be there. Tiger’s so fast, please dont blink, / These wonder’s of god are on the brink, / We dont want humanity to loose this link, / For then us humans would really stink. So come you guys pick up the fight, / We dont want the tiger’s to suffer this plight, / so let us use our powerful might, / To help these tiger’s to keep thier eyes so bright.

Just got back from dropping off two artworks for a new juried art show in August. I was told the gallery is expecting over 300 entries for the show, so wish me luck in getting accepted. I’ll find out on Tuesday next week if I pass jury selection. I dropped off the following artworks for the show: Icon IV: The Fruit Bat Icon III: The Rabbit Also TONIGHT is the artist reception for “Art of the Gecko” at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA). The Academy is currently hosting a live gecko exhibit, and asked area artists to decorate a blank gecko sculpture for display at the museum. I will be showing “Golden Gecko”. In addition, I contacted the museum about showing some of my original artwork (as well as signed and matted archival art prints) in the museum gift shop. They agreed, and so the following artworks are now for sale at the shop: Conjoined: The Geckos This original gecko artwork (and well as the signed art prints) will be on sale through the end of the summer in conjunction with the current gecko exhibition. In addition, the Academy asked me to submit dinosaur and butterfly-themed works as they have ongoing (and popular) dinosaur and live butterfly exhibits at the museum. So I recently made the following, which are now also at the gift shop. I will be dropping off matted/signed art prints in August as well The Lizard King Butterfly I As always, check out my website at http://www.lynnetteshelley.com for the latest news and info.

Last Friday night was the opening for the Taree Open Art Exhibition in which I had 3 entries. I was stoked to win 2nd in the Pastel Section with / “Sunlight & Shadow, Lansdowne River.” It is a painting of one of my favourite spots. Also I would like to say a big thank you to Cebrfa for purchasing another card, “Little Paint Ponies.” I’m honoured.. / Cebrfa has some lovely photographs here on RB. EDIT: I just realize that was exactly 5 years ago to the day today I did my first ever painting. what a way to celebrate! So it seems my plans to take over the world are starting to come to fruition at long last. The Intraweb is bringing me news which I shall share with you. I am hosting a new group here on Redbubble, Contemporary Pastel Painters http://www.redbubble.com/groups/contemporary-pastel-painters. My co-host is the lovely and talented Valerie Simms. http://www.redbubble.com/people/valsart I invite and encourage all pastel artists to join the group. I hope, even if you are not a pastel artist, that you will drop in often to enjoy the work that is posted. From the group guidelines: This group exists to showcase the work of all Redbubble artists working in pastel. The pastel medium has many idiosyncrasies that require special knowledge. It is important for artists working in pastel to have a showcase for their work, to be inspired by others working in the medium and learn from one another and strive for excellence. Open to all artists working in the pastel medium, soft pastel, oil pastel, hard pastel, and pastel pencils. Also allowed and encouraged, artworks in mixed media, as long as one of the media is pastel. Welcome and enjoy! Alice
