The Sea Venture was one of the first ships to arrive in Bermuda. It was thrown accidentally off course by a hurricane and landed on the reefs intact. Its original course was with a fleet from England headed towards / Jamestown, Virginia to aid in the colonization. From being shipwrecked, the crew and passengers of the Sea Venture settled in Bermuda and benefitted from its tropical paradise and set up a small colony. This painting is a Mixed Media piece, combining original digital photography taken in Bermuda by SBC, painting, and drawing. It is intended to capture the natural and surreal beauty of Bermuda. It won an Honorable Mention Award in the Rowayton Art Show in 2006 and First Place in the Darien Art Show in 2007.

Taken in the bush near Alice Springs. Waiting for the sun to come up and saw this dead tree and just had to take a shot with all the colours behind it.

Pearls represent the tears of the moon and remind us that life may not be easy and we all struggle. The lotus represents strength through love. The daisies are for simplicity. The bindi is for spiritual insight. The red sky at night is a sailor’s delight…for a red sky at night indicates smooth seas on the morrow! Everything on the walls behind the kid is work that I did either in grade school or high school. Yes, I still have EVERYTHING that I did back then. It’s taking over every nook and cranny in my house, much to the chagrin of my loving wife. What can I say, I’m sort of a pack rat. Do I really need the cartoons I scribbled on my math homework when I was eight? No. Am I going to keep it anyway? You better believe it.

The doe took a little time off from busy eating for the photo opportunity, although she didn’t want to give up the tasty colorful leaf. By now everyone who has ever seen my work knows that I’m absolutely “addicted” to develop a deep relationship and establish an intimate communication with mule deer (we don’t have a lot of white-tailed deer around here).
