  • I have always had a fascination with ships and the ocean. Detail and craftsmanship of these old wooden vessels is sensational. Whether they were pirates, fisherman, sailors or just adventurous men who sought out adventure on the high seas they always took pride in their vessels. . / . / Lisa C. • As I sit on the stern of my ship, I think of yester morn when all was good. / We’d traveled a long voyage. / My men grew as mates. / Bounds of treasures we’d found made for a drunkered night. / But of night last, a squall came upon us and two overboard. / As fast as the wind arose, and water rushed over was my men gone. / My ship tossed from port to starboard we hadnt time to turn her a bow. / Till late we search, not a thread to be found. / Not a sail touched, nor a rope broke it was like a dream gone arye. / So i drop these two coins in memberance into the sea, to ye brave men who gave their lives, / and promise to add a share to their families as deserved. / Now its time to set sail homeward….. / Steady as she goes…..through the Calm Sea At Dawn. • This was taken at a dam in Oakbank in the Adelaide Hills, Australia in winter at dawn. We don’t get any snow in Adelaide, as our summers are very hot. There is still some fog around on the water. This is pure bliss to me. This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera, on a tripod. This was taken because of the mood created with the fog, the winter sunlight lighting up the boat and the 3 waterfowl swimming in the opposite direction to the boat.

  • Sepia Boat – May 2008. Sony Cybershot /

  • Cromer Pier, from the town. Sony A700, 42 second exposure. This is a blend of 3 images, all of around the same exposure time, but with a variety of graduated filters fitted for each. The area on the forecourt of the pier has been desaturated slightly to reduce the sodium light effect from the clifftop lights

  • I was shooting pleasure craft in dry dock for repairs. I spotted this repeating pattern along the side of one boat – it appeared to be the effect of salt spray permanently marking the side. I used a 60mm macro to get this super closeup of a very small area. NIkon D80 Nikon 60mm macro on tripod 1/200s f/10 /
