subject: This drawing was inspired by a dream I had a few nights ago, in which I was walking through a park at night and came across a naked man sleeping under a maple tree. There was more to the dream than I’ve drawn, but the key symbols and their meanings according to dreammoods.com are as follows. NIGHT: To have a dream that takes place at night, represents some major setbacks and obstacles in achieving your goals. There are some issues in your life that you are facing that are not too clear. You should put the issues aside so you can clear your head before coming back to it. PARK: To dream that you are at a park, represents a temporary escape from reality. It indicates renewal, meditation, and spirituality. It is also an indication of a readjustment period after a serious personal conflict or an ending of a passionate affair. MAPLE TREE: Balance, promise, practicality. NAKED MAN: If seeing a naked person in your dream disgusts you, it might signify anxiety about discovering the naked truth about that person or situation. It may also foretell of an illicit love affairs, loss of prestige and scandalous activities. On the other hand, if you do not have any problem with another’s nudity, then it implies that you see through people and accept them for who and what they are. SLEEP: To see others sleeping, is often a reflection of yourself and your own unconscious mind. It is indicative of how you may not be alert or informed about a particular situation. It may also beckon renewal and new beginnings. This drawing is about faces in a crowd…stopped at an intersection perhaps, waiting to cross the road. She glances over her shoulder at you. The Choice / Love should never be a choice. While man attempts to recreate his universe through science, emulating God, or the First creation; at the core, each of us struggles with daily choices that seem to eclipse the math and science pulsing through a network of logic. Are choices of the heart logical or divinely inspired, impetuous or practical, or do these rather define constraints of the mind? Should the heart always win over the thought process, or does one inform the other? By our divine nature, women have a choice, to follow our heart, head, will, or spirit. This was a logo draft I designed for a woman circle or network, / a female group, who came together once a week for meditations, discussions, support etc. I thought this might make a perfect T-shirt design, especially as the image has various double meanings – fertility, the female cycle, the cycle of birth and death, the earth goddess, female love, balance, yin & yang… The original is hand-drawn with black fineliner on Cartridge paper. I took the drawing into Illustrator and turned it into vector art, fine-tuned the curves, cleaned up the artwork etc. My girlfriend Breda, this is dedicated to you! Breda is doing fantastic work for females in N.T. Australia. • Featured in All Things Black August 2009 Great news – this design has been selected to be part of the Womanly Festival, the Manly Arts Festival in Sydney in September 2009.
