Acrylic and metallic paint on canvas, 46” x 38”. This is a commissioned abstract work for a client re-staging her home for sale. I created this expressionistic piece to tie a black, white and tan gallery art wall I created together and to become the focal point of the room. / I call the work “Outside The Lines”, in that the strong black lines create structure and balance and yet the color does not conform to the boundaries. The wild movement of the colors contrast and create chaos within the design of symmetry.

In the New Urban Environment of large acreage high development, every centimetre is a controlled surface, with the objective of symmetry and perfection. The eye is not allowed to see the slightest hint of natural anarchy, but nevertheless detects a total absence of connection with what lies beneath and beyond. And we keep it clean. And guarded. While shooting the building where these steps and stairs reside, from the footpath, I was approached by 2 security guards employed by the Jacksons Landing Community Association and asked what I was doing. Rather pointless really, given the large number of cameras which have filmed me while shooting my Urban Lines Project. They only had to watch their screens: Shot in RAW using a Canon EOS 10D and 28-90mm zoom lens at 70mm, ISO 100, f8, 1/125th of a second. ____ ____

Hanbei was a greengrocer from Osaka who married Ochiyo, a village beauty. There love was so strong their story became a village legend. Hanbei’s spiteful mother Omine tormented his new wife with scorn and disdain, so much so that the young couple chose to commit suicide, though Ochiyo was with child. / Perhaps they felt their love would live on, in yet another life? This is an actual macro of my daughter’s 3 inch wide rainbow bead stretch bracelet that she completed this morning at 2:30AM!! / I then applied my Redfield Fractalius Plugin before dragging the colors to the sides through Selective Coloring. /
