It all depends on you… All across the world, in every kind of environment and region known to man, increasingly dangerous weather patterns and devastating storms are abruptly putting an end to the long-running debate over whether or not climate change is real. Not only is it real, it’s here, and its effects are giving rise to a frighteningly new global phenomenon: the man-made natural disaster. BARACK OBAMA, speech, Apr. 3, 2006Global Warming / Global Warming / by Kira a 5th grader from Hawaii, USA Burning hot temperatures / More gases in our air / Over flowing Mother Nature / Does anyone really care? / The Earth will need a fan or two / When the time comes near. / Are we out of control with our oil spills / I think that we must fear. / The factories not listening to what we have to say / We must save our Earth / And we must save it today. Combined 3 different photos as layers, removed the background of the face photo with the erase tool on a transparent layer, added a cloud layer last at about 60% transparency over face and tree areas, used the smudge tool to blend and added a glow using GIMP2 software. Winter’s View of Parliament from the Ottawa River: a panoramic view taken from the banks of the Ottawa River below Parliament Hill just after a fresh snowfall. The Parliamentary Library is visible at the right, while the National Art Gallery is at the left with the Cathedral in between. Taken in the late afternoon while the evening moon was rising.

Mixed drawing media, acrylic, collage, banana fibre basketry on canvas. Work exhibited and sold Cairns Regional Gallery, Postcard Exhibition. / Artist Statement / The basket/vessel imagery used is a symbol-metaphor for our being, how we fill ‘with meaning’ (open, receptive, upright form) and empty, pour out (upside down image) our ’’thoughtful’’ thoughts in words and deeds! The colours used and ‘x’ shapes imply one’s physical and spiritual ‘connections’ and ‘relationships’ as we keep transforming as humans ‘being’. I also relate the vessel images to the music symbol shapes of the ‘U’ and its inverted – ‘upside down U’ (which I cannot type literally). They relate to processes of how much we are open/receptive/for transcending our physical ‘barriers’ to beyond and closed/blocking out/used as a protective barrier/nurture. These two shapes in ‘reflection’ symbolize eg. duality, opposites ie. yin and yan, etc., are a representation of one’s life’s-work and of giving and receiving.
