I was having an interesting conversation with my photographer friend Ian the other day. He was comparing my work to his. In his words, his photos were more “documentary” or “factual” while mine were more “artistic” and “poetic”. I was quite flattered by the comparison as I have always wanted to convey emotion and narrative through my pictures. But it raised a question in my mind as to how we convey emotion and narrative through our pictures. How much is it in the composition, how much in the titling and presentation and how much is actually in the mind of the viewer? How can you convey emotion through a composition? I think much relates to the state of mind of the individual taking the picture. Certainly when I’m in a happy mood I will notice positive things – on a basic level, the beauty of the world around. When I’m in a negative mood, I will be taking pictures of negative things, or things with negative associations – that seems to be chains for me. And in those images I am trying to convey feelings of being trapped, confined, restricted by life and a desire to be free. Positive images for me are the wide vistas of the countryside, wildlife running free, that sort of thing. I try to convey that sense of freedom and liberty, joy and life. I don’t know whether I succeed. Go and decide for yourself I’ve come to realize that titling is equally important. A good title leads the viewer to what you want them to see. Some days I’m afraid I’m rather lazy – but if you want to convey a sense of a lion running free through the African veldt you don’t call your picture “Lion”. I keep promising myself that I must spend more time considering a title, but in the fast moving world of the internet I’m afraid that expedience often wins in the desperation to keep a high profile. And then there’s the great unknown, the one thing that as an artist you are unable to control: the viewer. At its best, the viewer approaches the picture in the same frame of mind as the artist. At these times there is almost a spark – the viewer “gets” it. They can look at the picture and see through to its heart. I wonder whether much of the fuss over modern art is simply a case of the viewers inability to be on the same wavelength as the artist. Or the artist presenting a concept that is too esoteric. So does that mean I have to approach my pictures with a viewer in mind? Or can I be utterly self-indulgent. Well, therein lies the difference between an amateur and a professional. The professional always has to make his or her own feelings subservient to those of the buying public. In some respects they have to limit their imaginations – rather like a photographer wanting to express himself artistically, but being restrained by the fact that the happy couple just want bog standard wedding pics. The amateur is much better off in that respect. We have no professional considerations, we can let our imaginations and feelings run riot through our art. We have no audience other than friends and family. We are free.

Furthermore, I bet that they still have our links in their database… so anything that is being linked to the images can still get there. I do not have other adresses for the old files that contain our images, but I do have THIS (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=267816) it is a “work” I did a few minutes ago, using some of my own stuff from redbubble that I took… / here are the the links to the NEW files I got in there. / Crokus’ Original (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/thing?id=339915) / and Crokus’ t-shirt design (http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/thing?id=339937) / / Hope you can all see that… I created it there.

This Doodle Tree artwork of Margpie is such a wonderful surprise for the day! :D I was so over the moon when Margpie first bmailed me to tell me that she did a piece of artwork with me in mind and included my owls in her trademark doodletrees and asked if it would be ok for her to publish it here. I am so touched by her warm gesture and generosity of heart to me here on RB, please allow me to share my joy and Margpie’s Doodle Tree Art here :D Metamorphosised The little friends came to visit Doodle town, / they transformed the place and brought back the colour, / they were special , they spread their magic throughout the land / and now once again there is peace. This is a special tribute for Udonchow whose words of wisdom and unyielding support during the last few weeks has made her very special to me. / Thanks Ellen xx THANK YOU MARGPIE!! :D :D :D

I put one of my artworks into one of the groups and found it interesting that it was rejected, which I don’t mind so much its the comment of changing the artwork accordingly that I find amusing lol…. Group submission not accepted / “A dream of heaven (1)” was not accepted into the ☮Peace☮ group about 2 hours ago. The reason was: “We think it isn’t in line with one or more of the group guidelines. If you’re able to make changes to your work so it meets these guidelines, we’ll be happy for you to resubmit the work for consideration.” Hahhah, definately comes under controlling art lol.

I was very excited to log in to my account this evening and find that my work Independence has been featured today in the group 3D Animals Abound Thank you Lisa Weber and all that have visited and commented on this work. “Independence” may be a simple piece of 3D artwork but makes a strong statement in a few ways. In particular at the time I created it, freedom and liberty for all. Most importantly, the eagle lives and thrives and is free from the endangered species list. Peace!

  • Proposed Government Internet Filtering and its affect on the Arts Community
by Peter Searle ( the Elder )

Oh Dear oh Dear: Another and larger witch hunt! I’m extremely concerned by the actions of Australia’s Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator the Hon Stephen Conroy and the proposed mandatory filtering of Australian internet services at the internet service provider (ISP) so I am posting something about it. There is heaps of information online about why this is a bad idea, but five points detailed by Mark Newton (of Adelaide, who works as a Network Engineer at an ISP) summarize it nicely: 1. The Government has failed to identify a need for this policy. / 2. Even if there was a need, the Government has failed to demonstrate that its solution is wanted by the public. / 3. Even if the public wanted this solution, it won’t work. / 4. Even if it could work, it’s too expensive. / 5. Even if it wasn’t too expensive, it’ll be implemented poorly. / 6. In the unlikely event that it’s implemented perfectly, it will enable child abuse. These points can be explored in various letters to politicians that are published in the public domain as well as websites and forums. For anybody who is interested please go to the website below and read what is happening; even take a stand and sign the petition if you feel our rights are being threatened. If this worries you please sign The Petition I am not political, but I do find this concept deeply disturbing, as it is Australia we live in, not a dictatorship, and we are in danger of losing our cherished freedom of expression.

... MAKE IT A MOON BEAR ACTION Ursa Freedom Project begins on March 20 (Vernal Equinox) when, in the evening sky, the constellation Ursa Major rises up from the NorthEastern horizon (Northern Hemisphere). The campaign builds through a series of monthly posters and activities that catapult the whole world into action on June 21 (Summer Solstice). Ursa Freedom Project founder Jeanette McDermott (http://ursafreedomproject.ning.com/) approached the AAU to join forces with Ecopaparazzi to create one of the most serious campaigns that this collective could involve themselves with yet. The Ursa Freedom Project commits to liberate 9,000 bears from bile farms in China/Viet Nam and to end a practice that is commercially unnecessary. We who gather for the sake of the Moon Bear affirm liberty and deplore the torture of any living being. This endangered species is subjected to the unconscionable practice of bile extraction for use by industries which can use higher quality synthetic replacements to bear bile. The products are largely non-essential, including wine, furniture polish and certain types of medicine for preventable diseases. And the Chinese government has turned a deaf ear to the pleas of those who have worked for decades to help these animals. Return to Freedom / The Ursa Freedom Project commits to liberate farmed Moon Bears from the wretched crush cages and abject torture they experience daily – until they die. The abominable practice of bear bile farming should have never begun and must stop now. These beautiful creatures must be returned to freedom, to live in the state Nature intended for them – a life of up to 30 years to roam in their natural habitat and to eat mostly berries and foliage. Together, we can make a world of change. URSA’S INTENTION The Ursa Freedom Project seeks to engage people from all walks of life in an imaginative social action, to bring about a task that has only been attempted by a few. To move the hearts of the Chinese people for the sake of humane treatment of an endangered species has never been more possible. We believe a global response to this endeavor can bring about the necessary change. SO WHAT THIS MEANS IS… WE HAVE TO MAKE LOTS OF ACTIVE ART… LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF IT AND POST IT EVERYWHERE… FOR THE SAKE OF THESE POOR BEARS… ONCE THEY ARE REHABILITATED THEY CAN BE SO HAPPY! THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF A CAUSE THAT WE HOPE WILL EMANATE AROUND THE WORLD… We need a viral market force… We need art… We need music… We need writers… We need tshirts, caps mugs and bags… We need PEOPLE… We need MONEY… We need to help Animals Asia to get these bears out of these commercial bile farms and into responsible care! CHALLENGE LAUNCH I have included links to the media materials below… the hope is that caring and proactive people will spread these around the internet like a force of organised creative military might … Soldiers… take your arms and paintbrushes and go! MEDIA REDBUBBLE IMAGE OF WILLOW IN CAGE BY JEANETTE MCDERMOTT MORE PHOTOS TO USE IN THE MAKING OF RESOURCES AND THE SPREADING OF GOODWILL HTML CODE / Post the badge from here too: / PRESS VIDEOS ANIMALS ASIA LINKS FOR FURTHER INFORMATION INCLUDING MEET THE RESCUED BEARS AHHH… I KNOW YOU’LL MAKE YOURSELVES PROUD… GO… GO… GO… Aspire to Inspire… ART ACTION UNION COMMUNITY

Re: Subject: Zazzle Content Review: Not necessarily stoned / / Discussion Thread / Response (Erik) 03/28/2009 04:35 PM / Dear Zazzler / .. to why the freak am I so controversial, as regards Zazzle … Zazzle galleries are public and users may contribute content freely. Although we make every effort to ensure that the marketplace are kept free of copyrighted or otherwise inappropriate content, sometimes certain inappropriate products may become available for purchase. We rely on the efforts of our users to bring inappropriate products to our attention by using the “Report violation” link that is located on every product page. This will notify our Content Management Team to review any potentially infringing products. Best Regards, / Erik / Content Management Team / Zazzle.com, Inc. Which means, relying on the efforts of their users, one of their “users” reported me for a violation within moments of my having created the shoes when they were in my ‘private’ products. In other words, where a user wouldn’t have seen it, only someone like a print manager or somesuch. Shades of deviancy meander through! ..... And, this was my reply to them: Oh, well, I am not sure how a user could have seen my shoes, to report them, since they were under ‘private’ products and I had not shared the link with anyone. However, since it is not a personal vendetta by anyone, and only an honest and forthright reporting, then, I assume all other products that make the same violation, only which REALLY make the violation since my work is an abstract and did not bear either Mr. Hendrix’s name or likeness, will be removed now that they have been brought to your attention. Right? I shall be sure and check on this, bright and early tomorrow, before deciding what, if any, further action should be taken on my part. I do hope I do not find you showing further favoritism to others, or, conversely, prejudice against me, in this matter. Thank you and have a pleasant evening. / ..................................... This sort of thing makes me so sick. They were my own private shoes of my own private piece of art, for goodness sakes! What happened to freedom of speech, and the artist owning their own work, and etc?

Two features start off the new week with a bang! 2009-06-28 My Hero in in-between 2009-06-28 Rain Catcher in Freedom to Shine My Hero , my tribute to my father, garnered its third feature, today. The “in-between” group added the work to its featured gallery, Sunday June 28. This is my first feature with “in-between”, a group that focuses on things that don’t quite fit traditional art; be it in concept or rendering. I hope that I’m paraphrasing that correctly. Thank you so much to these co-hosts, Mimi Yoon and Scott Allison. Rain Catcher, a new work uploaded today, was featured by Freedom to Shine. Freedom to Shine, a group dedicated to the growth and encouragement of both student and teacher, professional and amateur, added Rain Catcher to its featured gallery on Sunday, June 28. Many thanks to Roger Sampson and Julie Alexander (solareclips), co-hosts of Freedom to Shine, for this honor.

So after my rant about the stupidity that is DeviantArt I decided to return to true form and write something somewhat more in line with who I am. So why the title “Forbidden Fruit”? Well it is provocative, evocative, sexy and very much in describing my philosophy on life. You see I am a natural rebel. I rebel against most societal conventions as I view them to be merely social constructs imposed by people who held and often times do still adhere to obsolete ideas. I spent many years trying my absolute hardest to conform to the idiocy placed before my by society. The purusit of a 9-5 career, the pursuit of things I didnt ever want but was told I should have to make my life better. The pursuit of some level of “status” that only served to make me miserable. I am the daughter of artists, an artist myself and I could never ever buy into that idea. Those things never made me happy. In recent years as a model, an artist, and a self proclaimed free spirit I have been reclaiming myself. The real me, the real Audrey has been coming to the surface. The girl who loves to indulge in the forbidden fruit of a naughty and exciting life. I have cast aside the trappings of conformity. I have thrown off the limits of societal norms and am freely living and expressing who I am. It is a luxury that cant be bought for any amount. it is the ultimate, beautiful thrill. Some of these photos you see here are the byproduct of this new found passion and zest for life. They are an expression of me and their creation somehow allows me to cement and proclaim the resolve that I am finally free and finally me again. I, like the mythical Eve have eaten and indulged of the sensual juiciness of the “forbidden fruit”. After wiping its delectable, sticky juices off my neck and boobies ( I am a messy girl).I know now like Eve did that it bears the gift of wisdom. Wisdom to know that there is more to life than the rat race, carreers, and the banality of the the mundane office existence. Wisdom and knowledge are freedom. They are the keys to unlocking the shackles of conformity and of being able to unchain ourselves from the restrictions opposed on us by puritnical kooks who know no fun. So I ask you my wonderful friends who indulge in the forbidden fruit that are my naughty photos and the art of others . Realize that wisdom can be found in the most unlikely of places and that if you follow your dreams your heart and your passion you will be much happier than if you follow a path predetermined for you by a misguided society. XOXOXOXOXOXO Miss Audrey
