The Sea Venture was one of the first ships to arrive in Bermuda. It was thrown accidentally off course by a hurricane and landed on the reefs intact. Its original course was with a fleet from England headed towards / Jamestown, Virginia to aid in the colonization. From being shipwrecked, the crew and passengers of the Sea Venture settled in Bermuda and benefitted from its tropical paradise and set up a small colony. This painting is a Mixed Media piece, combining original digital photography taken in Bermuda by me SBC, with my painting, and drawings. It is intended to capture the natural and surreal beauty of Bermuda through my eyes. This art won an Honorable Mention Award in the Rowayton Art Show in 2006 and First Place in the Darien Art Show in 2007. It is presently being considered for exhibition at the Royal Navy Dockyard Museum in Bermuda. Thank you for your interest, comments and purchases!

A mixed medium painting of stunning white acrylic daisies on a watercolour background, some ink. The watercolours were allowed to run into each other creating their own shapes then the subject and details were painted on top. A loose watercolour painting on Arches paper. Imagine an evening stroll along a hidden trail as the sun is setting throwing its warm glow across the shady trees… I did and this is what I created. Nothing like a glorious night to motivate one for a walk! The sky was alight to my delight / oh my look at those colours what a sight! / Let’s go for a stroll I said to my dog / the night is clear, no rain, no fog. The flowers were dancing their colours aglow / the tree branches swaying putting on a show / the night lit up we were bathed in light / Oh for sure this was a glorious night!

This photo has not been cross-processed properly, apparently. However, I’d never heard of cross-processing until recently. I’ve read that the term started by developing color print or slide film in the wrong chemicals – for example, color negative film in slide chemicals or slide film by the color negative process. This causes wild color and contrast shifts and requires lots of trial and error. for more, see Dana DiPasquale’s forum page. Apparently a group exists for cross-processing experts, as well. / / However, playing with the RGB channels certainly stretched my tendency for more realistic, staid photos! I played with this photo last night using Sue Wickham’s method and the tutorial that Mary Campbell posted. I used curves and RGB channels in Photoshop and Nikon’s Capture NX2.1 software. / / This is the Capture NX2 version, with a bit of a vignette blur from efex. Original: Nikon D200, Nikkor 70-300mm, 145mm, f/5.6, 1/1000sec, -0.3ev., ISO 200, manual exposure, / Converted from 12-bit RAW to jpeg. Manfrotto tripod. / 2025×3037px

/ / / original pencil drawing ...stayed up very late drawing “Nature’s Child”... you know when it’s time for a baby to be born, i think it’s very similar with art… the inspiration just comes when it’s ready…and sometimes that means drawing til 3am like i did with this one. ...the drawing took about 3 hours, and the digital colouring took about 5 hours today. ...inspired by some fantastic eyes i’ve seen lately, (drawn by people on RB) and the dear little willy wagtails…they are so cheeky…they aren’t authentic in colour here, because they are always black and white with little markings above the eye…but i have put their essence into the work hopefully. I think this is my favourite so far :) /

I had a vision to turn my colorful bug images into sepia toned black and white images with a touch of color. But didn’t know how, until today…..
