I did this article a while back when I created my design of the Green Fairy (or Absinthe). It is perhaps a bit long for here, but I hope you enjoy it. I have been enjoying the intriguing history of this little fairy and she has inspired me to create my own version of her. She was the muse said to represent the potent liquor known as Absinthe. A naughty and mischievous lady, but very seductive. She is also referred to as La Fee Verte or Green Fairy. She was part of La Belle Époque, or “beautiful era”. A period in France’s history that began during the late 19th century and lasted until World War I. It was a golden time of beauty, innovation, and peace between France and its European neighbors. A time of cabaret, and cancan, and art flourished with Impressionism and Art Nouveau. She inspired famous artists and writers of that time, and was a favorite of the bohemian culture. Some of the more famous imbibers she inspired were… Verlaine, Rimbaud, Poe, Wilde, Mary Shelly, Hemingway, Somerset Maugham and Jack London. Absinthe often has a dazzling green color (depending on the brand). The color usually came from the chlorophyll content of the herbs used in the distillation process. The main ingredient being Wormwood. But it not only inspired, it also drove some mad. It is said to be a contributing factor when Van Gogh cut off part of his ear. Below a quote from Wilde. Oscar Wilde / “After the first glass you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally you see things as they really are, and that is the most horrible thing in the world.” Absinthe also enjoyed great popularity in New Orleans at that time but was banned in the U.S. around 1912. One place of great renown was “The Old Absinthe House” in the heart of the French Quarter, at the corner of Bourbon Street and Bienville. Many celebrities passed through their doors as well … including P.T. Barnum, Mark Twain, Jenny Lind, Enrico Caruso, General Robert E Lee, Franklin Roosevelt, Liza Minelli and Frank Sinatra. / / This is just a taste of the rich history that follows the Green Fairy. There is so much more and only a search away if you would like to delve deeper. I hope you enjoy my illustration of this fascinating Green Fairy and her intoxicating past. I offer my rendition of her here on T-shirts, wall art and cards.

I’m new here to Red Bubble. I’ve been on 2 POD sites for a about a year, but never a site like this. It looks really great. I’ve never had a journal to post in either. I’m not used to posting about my work so I’m not sure where to start. I’m a stay at home mom with 2 beautiful children: Aidan, who is about to turn 9 this month, and Julia who just turned 3. I’ve always had a creative streak and like to make things, crafts, etc. I began designing images digitally after stumbling upon signatures when ran a Beatles fan site several years ago. Through a string of signature and PSP (Paint Shop Pro) groups, I learned how to use PSP 7 and have had a great time creating with it. A couple of years ago I came across Poser figures and was floored by them. I bought a used copy of the program and tried in vain to figure it out. Even with tutorials I just couldn’t get it. But then I discovered Daz Studio, a free program that uses the same files that Poser does and I have been having a blast learning and creating with DS for nearly 9 months. Mainly I create faeries and other fantasy types of images, though I sometimes create other types. I also love vintage images and have spent a lot of time and resources finding and restoring vintage designs. Well, that’s probably the most I’ve put up about myself at once in all the years I’ve been on line :) If you’ve stayed with my ramble this long – thanks! Please check back in from time to time as I’ll be creating and posting new designs as often as I can. Thanks- / Kerry / KRW Designs

  • I want to live where soul meets body / And let the sun wrap its arms around me / And bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing / And feel, feel what its like to be new Lyrics by Death Cab for Cutie Portrait that I manipulated with brushes and layers. All layers are my own photographs

  • Named: blue / Reasoning: Blue dress, blue eyes, blue wings. OK guys, this took me a great deal of time to do. the original drawn picture is cute, but i heavil modified it in photoshop CS3 i rid the peice of outlines as best i could. and digitial ized most of it. this took about 4 complete days to finish the figure. But i got lazy with the Bg and border. maybe if i feel like it later.. maybe… i’ll make a better BG for it. but with my ADHD this was quite a struggle. the picture is about 8 layers. one for the dress, one for the skin, one for the hair, one for the wings, one for the eyes, one for the white, one for the bg and one for the border. Hand drawn with a .5 mechanical pencil Outlined with a micron Sakura pen black size .5 colored with Prisma Color Markers,Photo shop was used a great deal in this. PLEASE COMMENT AND/OR FAVE I WORKED REALLY HARD ON THIS ONE!

  • Pretty little fairy finds a quiet spot to daydream.

  • 8×12 inches, watercolour and gouache, 2009. This was a commissioned painting of a fantasy male faerie. The client was quite particular about his look and it was fun to bring his vision to “life”.
