THE CREATIVE SELF OF THE ARTIST! / Current mood: blessed / Category: Religion and Philosophy “The creative self of the artist,is his person as a person, not his person as material individual or as self-centered ego! / And the first obligation imposed on the poet (or the artist) is to consent to be brought back to the hidden place near the centre of the soul, where this totality exists in the state of a creative source!” / In the process of creation, there exists no ego-self! / The poetic work is brought forth from the primordial source of the greater self! / Its achievement is beyond artificial and measurable effort , it expands from the finite to the infinite , from the limited to the limitless! / The dynamic forces in great poetry(or other arts I think),often break the barriers of the space and time and become the “undubitable magic” or the shen yun!(creativity and taoism)”“Chang Chung -Yuan / _ / / I do think that is a great statement and it is part of the way I see things! / The centre of the soul! that’s where the power to create is !

Now that smoking is becoming an anti social habit, cigarette vending machines are becoming obsolete. But wait! There is a cunning plan in the US to convert cigarette machines into art vending machines. How about heaps RedBubble vending machines in Australian cities to sell mini block mounted artworks, swap cards, mini portfolios etc :-) Check it out here http://www.artomat.org/home.html

Tried to think of something a little fresh and new for a group and came up with the idea of having as many featured works in the one place as possible. I figure at least every artist has been featured at least once (whether on the Home Page, on Red Bubble Features or in a group) so this group should be applicable to most. Will be good for other artists to peruse to see what’s popular as well as showcasing some truly brilliant work across all genres. It can be anything, photography, artwork, t-shirts, writing, vector art, painting, illustrations… so long as it’s been featured at least once. (there’s a maximum of 10 works) Obviously for the sake of trying to keep the group focused on the Featured Theme we’re requesting each item tells where it’s been featured somewhere on the listing (whether in your description or from the host sending an image in the comments). To add a little extra something we will be sponsored by successful Australian Publishing House Five Mile Press for a number of challenges so we’ll be giving away books (most likely art, crime or non fiction books) for some challenges. We hope it’s a group that’s enjoyed. I’m looking forward to seeing some amazing work! New Group – the Feature Fraternity

A mixed-media exhibition by artists with and without disability exploring the theme Difference – source for growth: enriching communities by learning to look at ourselves and our world in new ways. Tuesday 2 December to Sunday 21 December 2008 Difference – source for growth is the result of a call for established and emerging artists of all two-dimensional mediums to explore and expand their understanding and appreciation of difference and its contribution to communities. Works by artists with and without disability were encouraged, and will be exhibited as a cohesive body without differentiation, in an exhibition that is symbolic of inclusiveness. The exhibition will show diverse perspectives on the theme portrayed through various styles and mediums, including painting, print-making, photography, collage, drawing and writing. The artists involved are Carl Harris, Trisha Ferguson, Kylie Hughes, Thomas Huber, Larissa MacFarlane, Cathy Lyons, Selwyn Hoffmann, Eugene Cheng, Satchel Lyons, Flossie Peitsch working with MacKillop Family Services and Bayside Secondary College, Saren Dobkins and Andrew Green. The exhibition has been organised by DISTSS, a not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to promote a culture of learning for people with disability, the disability service workforce and the community to create a more inclusive society. This is in the context of a broad social agenda driven by human rights. Difference – source for growth will be held in the Foyer at Gasworks Arts Park, a fully accessible venue that also holds Australia’s premier international arts & disability festival/conference, The Art Of Difference. The exhibition coincides with the launch of a new name for DISTSS, and a celebration of the exhibition and renaming will be held on Friday 12 December, from 3:30pm in The Foyer. The free event will feature Rod Quantock, with music by the BiPolar Bears. All of us who create digital art or post our works online have probably heard that each computer screen is different. But it’s one thing to hear and consider it, and another to actually see those differences. Let me explain why I’m writing about this. My mother got a laptop for work purposes, and today I was adding her favorites to it not only because she’s pretty busy. I decided to go ahead and add my RB site to it for her to look at, and while I was there, it occurred to me, maybe I should take the time to browse my artwork. After all, hers is brand-spankin’ new, hi-res, and the settings haven’t been played with yet. I was supremely shocked, mostly with my 3D artwork. I take loads of time setting and resetting the lighting so the moods are just right, even adjusting them after their renders. On several of the pieces, all that effort went right out the window. My fractals mostly weren’t too bad, although a few of them looked a bit washed out. At least my photos stayed more or less the same. I was pleased with that. But how disappointing! I have my own screen adjusted to suit my eye problems. Anyway, I have no idea what to do now, except go on as I have been…and wish for a new computer myself.

Each of us holds our own passions, we can all take small steps in moving our world in the right direction. It is in our works history will be found. What will you be remembered for? What have you revealed of yourself or others? What changes would you like to see? What issues do you have with our world and what or whom do you blame, or how would you change things? What is important to you? Each of us needs to touch the hearts and minds of others to be succesful. We impact other peoples hearts, minds, emotions and souls, we might touch that one person empowered to bring about change…. inbetween we entertain. Many thanks to the anonymous person who purchased a canvas print of graffiti in Melbourne’s Hosier Lane. I hope you enjoy the work! I understand that the blue lady has been painted over in the past few months, which is a shame. I’m glad I managed to take the picture while it was still relatively intact! This is what she looks like now And here is the original: In other news, a woman from an online mapping service in the USA noticed some of my photos on Flickr. She asked if she could include some of them in an upcoming guide of Berlin, and I said ok. So here is the link to the Berlin Zoo, and a picture of one of the adorable sandcats I found there. It’s super cool to see your name in print like that! Finally,I must say that I’ve been very busy lately, so I haven’t had much time on the bubble. I apologize for not being able to attend to all your new works, but I will try to rectify that soon! I hope you are all doing well and that you have found many inspiring photographic opportunities in your day! Cheers and thanks again / Louise

I’m thinking of moving and let art have the apartment. / I made a monster…Help! Art is now complaining I need a new haircut. I am now going to hide in bathroom , very safe as art is scared of water.

I should be sketching more designs, but I instead am browsing the net constantly for art and inspiration. Inspiration for when I do sit down and sketch! I love to see what others are doing, it amazes me how diverse art and life is. It is hard to understand how we think differently, when all you know is how you think? While we know and accept difference, we can’t really comprehend how it feels to be someone else and to have lived their life. But, in art you can see such differences. Ok, starting to get really deep, have woken from my trance! Better go…and sketch.

anyone who has been involved in creating or appreciating art for a reasonable length of time should be aware of the ongoing tension between high art and popular art. this would especially ring true for those people who have spent time in a formalised academic environment. while art schools and art theory have brought popular culture under the umbrella of acceptable practice (they had little to no choice in doing otherwise or see art disappear from the face of the earth) there remains a residue of distinction which separates the cool and the significant. cool is a term bandied around ad nauseam by all people from all walks of life. in todays art world it finds particular placement among those who champion popularised forms of expression. Street art, stencil art, comic art, animation, audio/video and anything capable of being posted on the net jump to mind. cool tends to wain in its usage when the individual enters the stratospheric realms of elite art which even in this age of post-deconstruction still persist and persist with a kind of stubborn insistence that it is necessary and the work found in this realm is different and significant compared to all else called art. the significance attached to the work found in the realms of high art are termed thus for two predominant reasons. first is the particular aesthetic which must be achieved to gain consideration for admittance. secondly and just as important is the requisite theoretical attachment the work comes with, much like an email. if an artists work lacks either of these things there is little chance it will be considered. the aesthetic it requires has two basic needs. it must be ambiguous and to a degree confusing. this is essential to encourage as many possible reactions to the work. it is better to say nothing specific. it is far more advantageous to set the work adrift on an ocean of possibility. sometimes if the artist is especially astute they will embed the work with a secret covert language decipherable by all but a few individuals. this language itself is far from full proof and is open to variegated interpretations. such an aesthetic lends itself to theoretical attachment in a similar vein. contemporary artistic theory is far removed from a casual popular description of being cool. it is far more likely to elicit a ‘what the fuck?’ again this is due to a particularity necessary to enable the artwork to distinguish itself and to allow others, wondering whether the work is significant, if in fact it is. now to elicit a ‘damn, that’s cool’ requires less and falls into the treasured realm of the spontaneous. it is far more immediate, requiring the observer merely to come into contact with the artwork for the briefest of moments. a connoisseur of the cool knows what they like and does not need an artwork to be validated by a community to enable them to proclaim their positive affirmation. whether you like the cool or the significant is of little consequence. the cool is not interested in gaining validation by the significant. that world is too full of uniformity and necessitation. in some cases they may be even unaware of the existence of the significant. in turn the significant has territory to defend and standing to maintain. they see the cool as lacking development and insight and failing to contribute to the advancement of art.
