Starting my own blog on this cause why the hell not! I WOULD LIKE TO RE-ITERATE SOMETHING SOMEONE SAID, This is an ARTistic community site, I been here since almost the beginning and am seeing a lot of people come here ASSUMING that this is a PHOTOGRAPHY SITE (which can be art too can’t it), BUT SOME DAYS I FEEL LIKE YOU ARE TAKING OVER… So you can take 2000 photos in a day and 1500 of them are good and you can upload them over 1 week. Great… To do a good piece of art take WAY LONGER THAN THAT…. even digital. Just something to consider cause MAN THE ART IS GETTING LOST, SO LOST IT IS MORE THAN ANNOYING. AM I AM A GRAPHIC ARTIST THAT TAKES PHOTOS. It really makes a lot of ‘photographers’ look a bit silly if they are commenting on my images and saying things like ‘nice treatment’. GRAPHIC ARTIST/DESIGNERS don’t really treat photos, we manipulate them and in a lot of cases mutilate them and take them completely out of context. Change light sources, create alternate realities and unrealistic artistic things. SO HERES A BUSHFIRE THAT COULD USE A BLOG OF ITS OWN…. WHERE DOES PHOTOGRAPHY STOP AND GRAPHIC DESIGN START.??? If you clip out a sky and replace it with another one, alter nature, add colouring, tone this, airbrush that, lengthen that body, etc. etc. etc. Aren’t you manipulating the original image and then that becomes GRAPHIC DESIGN??? DIGITAL ART – Art created using a computer. PHOTOGRAPHY – An image captured as close to what the eye can perceive (of course I know that you mess with brightness and contrast and have been doing tweaking forever, but wasn’t that originally to replicate the record of the event)... WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE GET TRICKED BY GRAPHIC DESIGNERS IN THE MEDIA POSING AS PHOTOGRAPHERS. and I AM REALLY SICK OF HEARING ABOUT MONEY HERE… ARE YOU ARTISTS OR INDUSTRY… We all want to make money doing what we love, some of us do art regardless of money…

Please visit Wikipedia’s definition of Psychedelic Arts to understand/learn more / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychedelic_art definition of psychedelic arts: (from Wikipedia) / Psychedelic art is art inspired by the psychedelic experience induced by drugs such as LSD, Mescaline, and Psilocybin. The word “psychedelic” (coined by British psychologist Humphrey Osmond) means “mind manifesting”. By that definition all artistic efforts to depict the inner world of the psyche may be considered “psychedelic”. However, in common parlance “Psychedelic Art” refers above all to the art movement of the 1960s counterculture. Psychedelic visual arts were a counterpart to psychedelic rock music. Concert posters, album covers, lightshows, murals, comic books, underground newspapers and more reflected not only the kaleidoscopically swirling patterns of LSD hallucinations, but also revolutionary political, social and spiritual sentiments inspired by insights derived from these psychedelic states of consciousness. PSYCHEDELIC INSPIRATIONS / The Art of Jeff Hopp / “I believe that true art is foremostly a form of communication. For me to be interested in a piece, it must tell me something. An artist can communicate many things…. ideas, emotions, events, beliefs, etc. As for my art, I am interested in illustrating events and experiences that I have witnessed on my spiritual journeys. It is a method of capturing moments that cannot be documented in any other way. / They are places that can’t be photographed, and I feel that is important to share them with others.” LINKS & RESOURCES PSYCHEDELIC ARTIST : JEFF HOPP RESOURCES : Psychedelic Arts @Squidoo PHOTOBLOG/IMAGES : Psychedelic Wallpapers & Posters

As I am practically brand new to design and photography, I want to play a game and get the RedBubble community involved. It is fairly simple and the reason behind it is to challenge my creativity and develop my skills. I would like people to post a comment with a word, concept, or theme… from A to Z (the alphabet) and I will challenge myself to create a piece of wall art, and t-shirt design for each posted comment. All work will be tagged a2z along with the corresponding topic and letter of the alphabet for an easy search function. Feel free to join in the fun… so what will A be?

Art Criticism: How to Criticize a Work of Art / A four step process This is what I give my students as a guide to art appreciation: 1. Description- What do I see? Study the work in detail carefully. Describe the work in full detail. Be factual. Mention everything you see. 2. Analysis- How is the work organized? Look for and talk about the elements and principles of art and design that seems to dominate the work. Look at how the artist has used The Elements of Art / • Lines- real and implied, curved and straight, direction of movement / • Shapes, Space, Forms- Are the shapes geometric or free-form? Where is the horizon? Where is your point of view as the viewer? (Above, below, in the work, or outside) / • Colors- Warm, cool, bright, dull, soft, bold, etc. / • Value- light: reflecting much light; dark: absorbing much light. / • Texture-Both the medium and the objects portrayed: rough, smooth, shinny, dull Look at The Principles of Design / • Rhythm- Are there repeats of elements or images? / • Movement- Is there an illusion of action? How does the eye move around the work? / • Balance- Formal or Symmetrical, informal or asymmetrical / • Proportion- The size relationships between one part to the whole or one part to another part / • Variety- Visual difference and contrast within the work / • Emphasis- What part is dominant, and what part is subordinate? / • Unity- Does the work hold together? 3. Interpretation- What is happening? This is more than storytelling. As in literature, you need to interpret and generalize from data given. You need to find the metaphor or allegory in the work. What is the artist trying to communicate? Use your intelligence, imagination and courage to explain and tell the meaning of the work. This is based on the facts you have observed and your own life experiences. You can express your feelings, but they must be backed up by the observations you have made about the work. 4. Judgment- What do I think of the work? Does the work hold together visually? Does it communicate with the viewer? Judge whether the work succeeds or fails. You give your opinion backed by the three steps above. To make a judgment, you need to be honest with yourself. You need to know why you feel the way you do. Three Theories of Judging Art Imitationalism -Some people believe that art should imitate what we see in the real world. / Formalism – Some people believe that the most important part of a work is in the use of the principles of design and the elements of art. A work is successful if the texture, color, lines, etc are organized properly. / Emotionalism – Some people believe that the most important part of the work is the mood the artist communicates. Perhaps it is best to use all three theories when judging a work of art. Adapted from many sources, including Arttalk by Rosalind Ragans

Battersea Power Station is clearly the finest structure in London, forget Apsley House, you want imposing might, you can’t go further than Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s magnificent Art Deco monolith of brick. / So he had a stab at the telephone box, and Bankside (or the Tate Modern) is alright, but those four chimney’s rising from clutter of terraces and railway sidings strike an imposing figure over the city skyline. And it’s not surprising, it’s the largest brick building in Europe. / From Pink Floyd to Children of Men, via The Beatles and The Dark Knight, it is scorched into our modern cultural psyche, the Bank of England burnt tens of thousands of pounds in the furnaces there when they thought the Bosch were about to conquer us during WW2. Meanwhile the RAF were using the plumes of smoke to guide them home. Screaming Lord Sutch wanted to cover it in wool and make it look like a dead sheep, John Broome tried to turn it into a theme park. Now they want to turn it into a naff collection of faux pot plants and cafes, with a riverside walkway way, exterior designed to within an inch of it’s life. They’ll probably fail. But I don’t care, it meant that it was opened for two days for the public to get inside and have a wander, and this just hasn’t happened very often. (PVZ would have wet himself) On a different note, but while I have your attention, the next day I attended the Lovebox Weekender, and aside from Goldfrapp having these totally ace guys dressed up like colourful carpets pinging it all over the stage, Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips came out in a massive plastic ball and went walking and crawling all over the crowd, oh, and yeah, their show was amazing too

I made some free buttons for your website and feel free to use them. When you need another text, just ask me, I will do it for you… You just need to copy the address under the button (or any address of any picture at the internet, it works with .jpg and .png) and copy it to your profile / My bubble -> account -> edit your profile -> tell us about yourself You write for this the copied address between two exclamation marks without a space / !copied address! After this you write a double point and the link url-address (http://www.redbubble.com/link…..). At the end it should look like this: / !copied address!:link And at the end a little tip…. When you would like the visitors to see also your older work, not just only the first page… then lead them randomly to any page in your collection… All you have to do is to fill in this form and copy the address you get as a link for example to your my clothes button.... After this visitors will land not only at the beginning pages of your collection, by randomly everywhere…. :) http://images-2.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865589-2-art.jpg http://images-0.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865593-2-clothing.jpg http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865597-2-writing.jpg http://images-0.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865604-2-calendars.jpg http://images-3.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865608-2-wallart.jpg http://images-3.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865610-2-greeting-cards.jpg http://images-2.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865614-2-bubblesite.jpg http://images-2.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865621-2-sold-work.jpg http://images-0.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865624-2-bestseller.jpg http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865630-2-favorite-work.jpg http://images-3.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1865637-2-featured.jpg http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:ularge/view:main/1868788-2-website.jpg Read also: Tricks how to sell more… or Well balanced color palettes… or Ultimate Link Collection for creatives!

In an effort to clarify what Graphic Arts is and to foster creativity in the process I landed on the idea of creating an ongoing challenge series for the Graphic Arts group here on RedBubble. Graphic Arts is notoriously difficult to define – such is the broad scope of it’s uses. But there are some basic threads of commonality, primarily the intention to communicate. Which explains why tertiary studies in the field usually fall under the title of Communications (i.e a Bachelor of Communications). With that in mind, there are several techniques that are characteristic of graphic arts – mostly based around printing techniques (due to the long history of printmaking next to the more recent growth of digital/cyber formats). The graphic arts have also closely tied with current trends and design movements – which is hardly surprising considering that design is the act of creating to fulfill a demand (as opposed to art for arts sake). Designers are constantly looking to their environment, culture, history, current affairs and so on to inform their work. The linear documentation of art history and architecture are prominent in creative studies – whilst that of graphic arts is less well know (perhaps due to it’s mass-production nature, rather than ‘high-art’ identity). But you will find that art, architecture, industrial/product design, jewellery and graphic arts often cross boundaries with each other. So, getting to the point. Over the next several weeks I will be launching challenges with themes focused on prominent design styles. To keep it interesting I won’t be releasing them in linear order – but jumping around instead. I will have links to more information, and also be providing examples of original and contemporary works in the theme. Here are the themes so far: Cubism / Futurism / Bauhaus Cubism Picasso’s Cubist Man with a Hat of 1912 is an early example of collage, which was a logical outgrowth of Analytic Cubism and marked the beginning of the shift to Synthetic Cubism. Pieces of colored paper and newspaper are pasted onto paper to form geometric representations of a head and neck; the remainder of the image is drawn in charcoal. The use of newspaper, which seems textured because of the newsprint, was a common feature of early collages. Words and letters, which are themselves abstract signs, often formed part of the overall design. Collage, like Cubism, involved disassembling aspects of the environment – just as one might take apart a machine, break up a piece of writing, or even divide a single word into letters – and then rearranging (or reassembling) the parts to form a new image. [i] Futurism The [Futurist] Manifesto sought to inspire in the general public an enthusiasm for a new artistic language. In all the arts – the visual arts, music, literature, theatre, and film – and museum would be abolished, and creative energy would be focused on the present and future. Speed, travel, technology, and dynamism would be the subjects of Futurist art. Piet Mondrian painted Broadway Boogie Woogie [while living in New York in the 1940s as a refugee from World War II]. This was one of a series of pictures that he executed in small squares and rectangles of color, which replaced the large rectangles outlined in black. The grid pattern of the New York streets, the flashing lights of Broadway, and the vertical and horizontal motion of cars and pedestrians are conveyed as flat, colorful shapes. [i] Bauhaus The German version of the International Style centered on the Bauhaus. Its aim was to improve the aesthetic quality of manufactured goods and industrial architecture, to produce them more cheaply, and to make them more widely available. [i] The design innovations commonly associated with…Bauhaus [are] the radically simplified forms, the rationality and functionality, and the idea that mass-production was reconcilable with the individual artistic spirit. [ii] [The] foundations for the future development of functional typography at the Bauhaus were laid with poster and typography designs for various events and publications at the school. This included the Bauhaus postcards, which found wide distribution as original graphic miniatures and which, in their combination of typeface and image, were to become an important advertising medium for the Bauhaus. [iii] Art Nouveau – more info + photos Dynamic, undulating, and flowing lines in a syncopated rhythm, are found throughout the architecture, painting, sculpture and other forms of Art Nouveau design. Two-dimensional Art Nouveau pieces were painted, drawn, and printed in popular forms such as advertisements, posters, labels, magazines, and the like. Japanese wood-block prints, with their curved lines, patterned surfaces, contrasting voids, and flatness of visual plane, also inspired Art Nouveau. [iv] Art Deco Art Deco was a popular international design movement from 1925 until 1939, affecting the decorative arts such as architecture, interior design, and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts and film. This movement was, in a sense, an amalgam of many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism, Modernism, Bauhaus, Art Nouveau, and Futurism. The bold use of stepped forms and sweeping curves (unlike the sinuous, natural curves of the Art Nouveau), chevron patterns, and the sunburst motif are typical of Art Deco. A resurgence of interest in Art Deco came with graphic design in the 1980s, where its association with film noir and 1930s glamour led to its use in ads for jewelry and fashion [v] Pop Art The imagery of Pop Art was was derived from commercial sources, the mass media, and everyday life…The Pop artists strove for “objectivity” embodied by an imagery of objects. [T]he widespread incorporation of letters and numbers into the new iconography of Pop Art reflects the influence of the newspaper collages produced by Picasso and Braque. [i] Characterized by themes and techniques drawn from popular mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane cultural objects…Characterized by themes and techniques drawn from popular mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane cultural objects. [vi] Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup I (Tomato) of 1968, illustrates his taste for commercial images. The clear precision of his forms and absence of any visible reference to paint texture intensify the confrontation with the object represented – with the object as object. [i] Punk Punk visual art is artwork which often graces punk rock album covers, flyers for punk shows, and punk zines. It is characterised by deliberate violation, such as the use of letters cut out from newspapers and magazines, a device previously associated with kidnap and ransom notes, so the sender’s handwriting was not revealed. Much of the earlier artwork was in black and white, because it was distributed in punk zines reproduced at copy shops, but when colour was used in more expensive productions it was often characterised by being high key, such as the use of fluorescent pink and yellow contrasted with black on the cover of the Sex Pistols’ Never Mind the Bollocks album designed by Jamie Reid. Punk visual art can include anything from* crudely scribbled letters* to shockingly jarring figures drawn with sharp points everywhere. Often images and figures are cut and pasted from magazines to create a scene and the colors are often two tone and deeply contrasting. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL…...........I INTEND FOR IT TO BE A GOOD ONE ….... TAKE CARE OF YOU AND YOURS / LIVE IT, LOVE IT AND LAUGH ALL THE WAY THROUGH IT…........... Love Karen Thought this might be of interest to some who would like to have an idea where they want to go this year…................... Designing Your Life – New Year’s Resolutions for 2009 / 2009 is almost upon us and right now is a great time to ensure it includes the experiences you want to have. After all, the old patterns can run so deeply in your mind that very little will change unless you change it. / It is also worth considering that the reason New Years Resolutions have been around for so long, and used by so many people, is that they must work as a motivating force. You will be surprised at just how well they do work if you follow these steps. / Here are the Seven Steps to help you create your goals for the next year. 1). Decide what it is YOU really want. Not what you should do, or what you think others expect of you, or what you should stop doing. These goals need to be things you would really like to experience, that will really shift your life to a new level, and so are easy to commit to. If you do things you feel you have to do, it is often hard to stick to that decision. The way to choose what you want is by having a list of the various areas of your life and then defining the improvements you want in each of those areas. Spend a few hours considering all the possibilities and bring forward from the back burner, those experiences that you always would have liked to happen, but have not as yet done anything about. This could be the year!! Here are some areas to choose from: Health, fitness and physical wellbeing. How do you want your body to be this year, and what actions are you going to put in place to achieve it? Creativity – How will you express yourself in the arts, crafts, family, work, money, the garden or any other part of life? Behaviours – are there any you would like to improve or change? How can you become a better person? Your behaviours are the key. Can you give up negative emotion entirely, while at the same time becoming strong and centered? Career – Would you like a different job, or promotion in your existing career? How can you become better at your work, or create for yourself a new money making skill that gives you more freedom and far more income? Self Development – What abilities would you like to develop and in what ways would you like to grow and educate yourself? What daily self development practice will you put in place? Family Life – How can you become a more conscious and more loving spouse and parent? What can you do to give your children more love and better opportunities to live fulfilled lives? Financial Security - Now is the best time to put in place your financial security. Start to examine a whole range of opportunities, including properties and stocks, or anything that can be traded. More people become millionaires in interesting times than at ay other. Fun – What are the light-hearted ways you are going to create laughter and enjoyment for yourself and your family, especially the children? Life is meant to be fun and I have read that a person who makes laughter a major part of their life lives ten years longer than the average. Community Help - What contributions can you make to your community? 2). Read Your Goals every day. You will be very surprised to discover, even if you believe you have very little will power, that just by reading your goals on a daily basis, that many of them will come to you. This is because your mind is a goal-seeking device and when you give it clear directions it will get on with the task of bringing them into your life. SO READ THEM DAILY. 3). Make each goal a very strong and clear uplifting instruction. Be as detailed as you can. If you want a particular type of car, then write it down, rather than just ‘a car’. The goals must be positive, not negative. ‘I am not fat any more’ should be: ‘I am lean, muscular, fit and healthy’. Have the steps to follow clearly planned out. A good idea is to have a clear image in your mind of the fulfillment of your goal, and then, working back from there, set out the steps you need to follow to arrive at that point. Creating the steps is very, very helpful to achieving what you want. If you have tried to achieve these goals before, and you have not been able to achieve them, write out the reasons why this happened, and keep this in mind when you create your plan to achieve them this year. 4). Create a notebook, or even a large scrapbook to keep your goals in. Only have one goal per page, or per section of the book. You can write them out in words, as well as have images that illustrate them for you. Use pictures cut from magazines. Look at this often, and also regularly visualise you living out your goals. If, at any time, you are faced with a choice of an action or a behaviour, ask yourself: ‘Does this enhance by ability to achieve my goal or not?’ If the answer is ‘Yes’ then do it, and if ‘No’ then don’t. 5). Choose goals that you can achieve, even if they seem a stretch. Do not sabotage your opportunities by setting goals that are far too large for you to achieve in the short term. Start small and, as you achieve each step, you can increase the size of your goal. Move in an incremental way to your overall aim. Once you have completed the smaller steps, than you can ramp them up, as you will have built your confidence from the experience of achieving the smaller goals. Also, be available to shift gears and even change goals, as circumstances change. Be pragmatic and flexible. This will allow you to achieve even better results than you previously imagined possible. 6). Keep your goals private except from those that they involve, such as when you are doing things together. If you announce them to the world, you will be setting yourself up to be checked on by those who do not keep goals. Some of these people long to see you fail, so that the pressure is off them to improve their lives. So keep them to yourself and let your success in the world be your example to others 7). In your goal book, list your progress. Just write down what you have achieved towards your goal, like a diary. This acts as a reminder of what you are doing with your life this year. Occasionally give yourself a small reward to acknowledge how far you have come. Your mind is a machine, it must be directed like a film, driven like a car and programmed like a computer. Remind yourself constantly – ‘I am creating my life with every thought, image, action and behaviour. No one else, just me’. If you follow this process everyday, you will be on your way to achieving unlimited success in every aspect of your life. Thanks once again, and may 2009 be the year that you reach higher and higher levels of consciousness. The Daily Guru

Being a creative person is a bit like being a sponge. Part of maintaining an interest in art and creativity is to seek inspiration from things around us. It helps to keep that spark firing, even when we may not have the time to create art ourselves. / / It’s interesting to keep one eye on what’s making the news when it comes to art and design. You never know what kind of inspiration you might find in your newspaper or online. Here are some art related stories that have sparked our imaginations in the past week: Bansky versus Bristol Museum Banksy has unveiled his largest ever project: Bansky versus Bristol Museum, a full-scale infiltration and “remix” of Bristol City Museum and its works. Art’s leading lights head for Vauxhall car boot sale The annual Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair sees popular contemporary artists flogging their art out of car boots at bargain prices. It took place in London this weekend. When the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair first opened for business five years ago, the notion that famous artists would ever really resort to peddling their wares from the back of a hatchback was a joke. Tim Burton to exhibit at the MoMA Tim Burton’s drawings, stories and puppets are the focus of a major show at Moma later this year. The show will include more than 700 pieces: paintings, drawings, storyboards, maquettes, puppets and other work created or designed by Burton. Artists say no to Google An invitation to put art on Google Chrome has caused grousing among illustrators, who don’t see why a profitable company like Google shouldn’t pay for their work. The Eames House turns 60 The Eames House in Pacific Palisades, California, is celebrating its 60th birthday. The ingenuity of the prefabricated structure dazzled architects and designers at the time, and still does today. NYC cabby transforms backseat into art studio Fabio Peralta has turned the back seat of his yellow cab into an art studio for his passengers, and has commissioned thousands of works. How cool is Fabio!? We hope some of these stories inspire. Please feel free to share your thoughts below or link to any other nuggets of inspiration from outside the bubble. I know I haven’t been around RB much lately ( in fact pretty scarce since the beginning of 2009). And I have gotten a number of emails on that front. Well, all is delightful thanks, and I’m still creating art (though currently focusing my writing on business topics and a little poetry). Sorry, I don’t mean to neglect doing the rounds and posting comments on the many artwork uploaded to RB, but I will – PROMISE! I never forget friends, despite the absence in time. As some members already know, I am involved in a number of projects online, including business and finance, marketing and much more. I am the founder of a few Art groups, one of the largest is on Imagekind call DIGITAL FINE ART (DFA) – specifically geared towards Digital Artists. On top of those, I manage nearly a dozen business related websites. There are some exciting Art related projects upcoming this fall and next year, which am privileged to be a part of, and will tell you more as they unfold. If you have a FaceBook page (I just became a member), I’ll be privileged to have your profile connect with mine there. Also, if you have a Scribd.com account, or LinkedIn account, please add your profile to mine as well. Sorry, I dont Twitter yet, but hope soon….Oh, just in case you are not aware, Scibd now offers its members a chance to sell their literature directly from the site (currently only available to US residents). It’s a great opportunity for anyone who writes poetry and other literature, and who self-publish stuff. It’s an unbelievable opportunity because the site has millions of users, plus millions of visitors daily! My own documents (47 in total) currently has nearly 41,000 read pages!! As am living in Canada, I shall await Scribd’s e-commerce option for international countries to sell books. In the meantime, have fun (just like that tiny image I recently posted on my profile). That’s what life is all about; never letting anything get you down, being true to yourself, smile in the face of dilemma. Please feel free to contact me if you wish to learn more about my online projects, or just to say “hi”. All the best to everyone.
