This is a wild crow that I handfeed on my back deck. Every year she has babies with her partner. Last year they had 3 and were quite worn out when they finally left home. At the moment they are feeding their new babies but they won’t bring them to me for another couple of weeks. The babies come to trust me very quickly. I have an affinity with birds.

Completed in 2004, age 17 This is a slightly cropped version of the original, due to the limits of my camera. My original signature got cropped out so I had to insert a new one in photoshop; in the original it is not actually located there. Original size: (40” x 30”) The two subjects are posed in similar positions, each having a dark, circular central focus., Both images have lines above and surrounding the centres, which draw attention towards the centres. The vertical composition help strenghten the feeling of height given by the vertical lines. Both subjects are organic, however one, the eye, has straight lines and geometrical shapes, while the rose has curvy lines and organic shapes. In the eye, the centre is literally dark, while in the flower the darkness is created by shadows. I reach out for her / Draw her to me / My hand skims her body / Slowly reaches her skirt. Playful fingers find hidden areas / Delighted her legs spring forth / Displaying the very beauty / Of her delicately placed, adorned skirt. Gaily she dances around / Dizzily twisting and turning / In the brightness of day shading / She gently tends to my needs. Personal ballerina takes to toes leaping / Merrily bobbing up and down / As emotional to her performance / Clouds cry a thousand tears for her. Close-up cropped sections of this work to showcase detail: This is a mixed media piece; created using a watercolor painting that I digitally altered with layers and layers of various colors then added enhancements with GIMP brushes I made myself. The original painting as well as this altered image are/were inspired by growing up in an area rich in wildlife. Most of my childhood was spent outdoors exploring what Mother Nature has to offer. Emotions rushed through me as I finished this piece and I kinda got a little teary! Let’s just say it moved me. You see, I was about to trash the watercolor! It was an experiment in watercolor techniques….just playing around while learning. I didn’t really expect it to be anything more. This morning while clearing out some stuff in the studio I happened upon it, setting there in a stack of the same sort of experimental paintings and this little voice nagged at me to do something MORE with it…....and so this is the result. :) VIEW IT LARGE!
