Shot this back in November, 2004, when the grass was much greener, and there was water in the dam. There’s only been water in that dam one other time since then, and it lasted around 6 weeks….this is a nice reminder of what we used to have…. Sold this a number of times pre-redbubble, mostly A3 size, and it won me a $1500 prize from the Brisbane City Council, as well the John Herbert medal at APSCON 2005, and also a number of other smaller prizes. This was sold december 2008 on redbubble as a matted print. This guy was pretty cool, sitting there minding his own business, and I just had to get the shot. But as I lifted the camera and looked through the lens he just broke into this mean stare into the lens like he was gonna hurt me. I saw it and quickly pressed the shutter. Later I complimented him on his tattoos and showed him the shot and it was then that his frown turned into a broad grin…phew!

Subliminal though it may be, Desirée / Glanville speaks through her fantastic / fractal renderings and choice of music. / The Wiz – Ease on down the road, a / combination of fractals created with / Apophysis, is an example of her / music-inspired work. / A late seventies movie follow-up to a smash Broadway hit,The Wiz, / with its updated, urban Wizard of Oz theme, features characters / rising above their background and others’ expectations of them. / “Ease on Down the Road”, Desirée’s subtitle, is their road-trip theme song; sung by the late Michael / Jackson and Diana Ross, playing the scarecrow and Dorothy, respectively. The two joyfully make their / way down the yellow brick road, laughing, stumbling, and dancing, off to see “the Wiz” (the late Richard / Pryor). / Desirée strews our path with pink and yellow flowers and fantasy crystals, through which we see more / worlds. The landscape is draped in a muli-colored veil of dreams. Butterflies hover above, harbingers of / new life. / Dorothy, ultimately tells the Wiz, when he turns to her for help. ”…you’ll never find [what you’re looking / for] in the safety of this room. I tried that all my life. It doesn’t work. There’s a whole world out there. And / you’ll have to begin by letting people see who you really are.” / Is this Desirée’s message? As artists, getting out of that safe zone and letting others know who we really / are is probably where we begin to “ease on down the road”; the ultimate road trip to the pinnacle, where / the art of joy and the joy of art meet. Summer Breeze a beautiful poem by the same title by a dear friend of mine Anne Van Alkemade / Inspired by the song Summer Breeze / by Seals and Croft Also inspired by myself and my experience of having bugs and insects come to try and take up residence in my ears… scrabbling around in there, getting all comfy…while I’m going crazy…click beetles, houseflies and spiders so far have all tried this… lol This is a girl who has an affinity with nature, and as the summer breezes begin to blow here in Australia…....the animals are drawn to live in her hair thinking that it must be branches of a tree… yes, my hair’s that dry… :) I thought it a fitting one for summer, hope you like her… Pencil drawing took me about 3 hours / Digital colouring – 10 hours / Total time 13 hours
/ / / / Original pencil drawing “Topiary Teapot” About the Art / A pencil drawing coloured digitally, an elegant geisha enjoys the simple pleasure of her garden. The teapot topiary is also a fountain, you can see water pouring out of the spout and a sprinkler at the tippy top.. :) Inspiration / The inspiration came through my parents, who have a topiary teapot and a topiary sugar bowl in their own backyard, the also told me of an amazing topiary garden they visited in Tassie recently. / / Here is the “teapot topiary” in my parents’ backyard, they are sculpting teapots and sugar bowls….there are lots of fun things in my mum and dad’s garden !! Even the Cheshire Cat and Tinman have a spot in the sun there :)

Bramble Rainbowtree…. she throws her arms skyward reaching to the heavens above… spots, stripes, flowers and streamers are added to convey the celebration and joyfulness in her spontaneous gesture…. ...Little Bramble Rainbowtree began as a little pencil drawing inspired by my beautiful niece Maya, who has the longest hair ever! This so reminds me of her, except that Maya’s hair is much more beautiful and much darker in colour. ...I have coloured Bramble Rainbowtree digitally, I hope you like this special fairy :) ...a great little vintage design for big and little girls, friends, birthdays, gifts, bedroom decor, nursery walls, etc.

There are all the colours of the rainbow in this piece, to remind us that there is always hope, no matter how hopeless it seems sometimes. The rainbow is a sign of hope. Children See/Children Do powerful message for grownups I hope that all the children who look at this painting will drift off into a faraway place in their imagination and feel wonderful for a while, especially if things are getting them down…and if life is wonderful, may this little picture add to the wonder and spark the imagination.
