Many of the Australian Aboriginal artists are women. I was fortunate to be given permission to take this photo, as with many indigenous cultures there are differing thoughts and beliefs relating to images of themselves and hence “candid” photography can be in some circumstances, very offensive. / Many people believe that the patterns and symbols used in this art are “random” and/or “abstract”, however it is usually well structured with many recognisable symbols used to represent men, women , babies, creatures both in their daily lives and mythical traditions, along with features of their country. / It’s a pity that some “non-indigenous” and either unwitting, or plain unscrupulous people replicate this art in a random manner without the true understanding of the art and its representation. One of the most beautiful of all species endemic to Tasmania, the waratah blooms around early spring. These majestic flowers can be found all over the state, but especially throughout the west coast region. We have a nearby township named after these magnificent blooms, appropriately called “Waratah”. Any person visiting Tasmania during the flowering season would find the roadsides around this town alive with wild waratah blooms flowering on shrubs up to around 20 feet high. I love these flowers, and I love taking photo’s of them. This one was shot in a garden at our local hospital. Once the vignetting filter was added, I managed to even impress myself with the way this shot turned out. My most popular shot with 1281 views as of Nov 29 2009

What a glorious sky! (even if I do say so myself!) 3 bracketed exposures blended in Dynamic Photo HDR. I used the Canon 5D with 16-35mm at 16mm, f/8, three different exposures, ISO 50, and just one Lee filter at this stage, ND grey 0.9soft, tripod and cable release. Ok, time to get serious now. This is a bridge across an estuary at South West Rocks, NSW….gorgeous place, lovely scene. We arrived here just on sunset, so had to very quickly find something to photograph…..as we do :) This was shot the next morning, on the way home…. Had an amazing morning shooting with bensound and whatsthatbeeping this morning, thanks guys! Check out their work, people, both awesome artists, what a thrill for me! Shadowman series Three exposures blended with photomatix, amongst other things…. The pose and location are all down to Ben, I just did the clicky thing. Thanks Ben :) I also used Grunge texture 02 from amptone stock and Grunge Texture 05 from buzillo stock
