It occurs in a semi-circle around Sydney extending from around Ulladulla in the south to Lake Macquarie in the north and west to the higher parts of the Blue Mountains, New South Wales. The family Proteaceae is a very ancient, widespread family occurring in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, South America and eastern Asia. Photo taken in Maandowie Bush Reserve, Loftus, NSW, Australia In 2002/2003 this plant was discovered in Maandowie Bushland Reserve, Loftus, NSW, Australia during bush regeneration activities. Formal identification was not done due to the regeneration work load. In 2004 it was found growing in the Menai area, about 5 kilometers from Maandowie. It was sent for formal identification and was confirmed to be a hitherto unknown species of Hibbertia. There are about 60 known specimens growing in the Menai area and 90 in Maandowie. Due to its limited range and the small number of plants it has officially been classified as rare and endangered by the NSW government.

This is two of the three auto exposure bracketted shots merged in photomatix. The boat moved too much in the longer exposure for that one to be useable. The Rous River is a tributary of the Tweed, and is basically surrounded by cane farms and mountains. We’re in the middle of one of the largest calderas in the world, I believe….a monster volcano from even before I was born! Canon 5D, 16-35mm at 16mm, f/10, 1/60”, ISO 50, tripod on a moving boat…

I used the Canon 5D with 16-35mm at 16mm, f/8, three different exposures, ISO 50, and just one Lee filter at this stage, ND grey 0.9soft, tripod and cable release. These tank traps were placed along the length of Stockton Bight during WW II. / / Original pencil drawing on Aquarelle Arches paper 56×76cm / Drawing 15 hours/painting 12 hours = 27 hours total A digitally painted hand drawn artwork… the inspiration for this is “Meeting Places”... As a child one of the most frequent things we did together as a family was to attend church on Sundays, I went to a Catholic School and the church I remember best was St Agnes’ at Port Macquarie… the nuns would come over for morning tea sometimes, and the priests would come for dinner occasionally…they were the days of fun parish picnics and life that wasn’t so hurried..when we took time to socialise, meeting and enjoying one another’s company. Mum was/is a great cook and host…and although this picture isn’t authentic as a portrait of her and myself…it’s representative. It’s also representative of new life and hope for the future, as the mother figure is with child….. and the child herself nurtures the wildlife…perhaps she is taking them to church for a blessing… perhaps the joey has lost his mother and needs nursing til he can fend for himself. The kookaburra is all seeing and all knowing….. the wise overseer of the bush… in this case, he stands in as the owl figure.
