This dreamy vision of fragrant Frangipani brings back to me the heavenly colors and scents of this alluring tropical flower which I was blessed to enjoy today in my friend’s garden. I would like to dedicate this image to everyone here at RedBubble and to send you all a virtual bouquet of plumeria. This has to be the best photo site available to anyone. The people are super friendly and supportive and the talent represented here is remarkable. The products which are shipped all over the world are of superior quality, with amazing attention to detail. I am privileged and blessed to be part of such a beautiful endeavor. My sincerest thanks to all!
I’ve combined a variety of plumeria blossoms in this collage. One thing which I think is extremely interesting is the fact that in order to produce plumeria with splashes or splotches of color in one bloom, the botanist injects the plant with a virus. It does not kill the plant but alters its coloration with splashes of varied hues.
The Cereus Night Blooming cactus is a splendid flower to behold. This one opened up around 11 p.m. and filled the night air with an intoxicating fragrance. It’s amazing to think that a lowly cactus plant which is not particularly attractive could produce a flower of this magnitude. The ugly duckling that produces an elegant swan! This side view is part of a series I’m adding to the RB portfolio.
The Cereus Night Blooming Cactus produces a spectacular flower which has a fragrance which is out of this world and a blossom which reveals itself when very few ever see it. Here is a sidewise view of the Cereus.

I found this grouping of flowers, lantanas that grow more frequently in the Southern States. I took several photographs of these vibrantly beautiful flowers that grow in bunches. Lantana’s aromatic flower clusters (called umbels) are a mix of red, orange, yellow, or blue and white florets. Other colors exist as new varieties are being selected. The flowers typically change color as they mature, resulting in inflorescences that are two- or three-colored. This photograph has less bunches to appreciate the colors and delicacy of these magnificent florals. This particular cluster touched my heart. Can you find the heart shaped bunch in lavender and red? “There are philosophies as varied as the flowers of the field, and some of them weeds and a few of them poisonous weeds. But none of them create the psychological conditions in which I first saw, or desired to see, the flower.” / G.K. Chesterton (1874-1936) / English Writer.

The Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis, Lauraceae), also known as True Laurel, Sweet Bay, Grecian Laurel, Laurel, or Bay Tree, is an aromatic evergreen tree or large shrub reaching 10–18 m tall, native to the Mediterranean region. The leaves are 6–12 cm long and 2–4 cm broad, with a characteristic finely serrated and wrinkled margin. It is dioecious, with male and female flowers on separate plants; each flower is pale yellow-green, about 1 cm diameter, borne in pairs together beside a leaf. The fruit is a small black berry about 1 cm long, containing a single seed. Bay Laurel is the source of the bay leaves which are used for their flavour in cooking. It was also the source of the laurel wreath of ancient Greece, and therefore the expression of “resting on one’s laurels”. A wreath of bay laurels was given as the prize at the Pythian Games because the games were in honor of Apollo and the laurel was one of his symbols ever since his unsuccessful pursuit of Daphne. In the Bible, the sweet-bay is often an emblem of prosperity and fame. In Christianity it is said to symbolize the Resurrection of Christ and the triumph of Humanity thereby. It is also the source of the word baccalaureate (laurel berry), and of poet laureate. Some evidence from the medical literature supports Bay Laurel having these uses: Antioxidative / Analgesic and anti-inflammatory / Anticonvulsant (antiepileptic) In Chinese folklore there is a great laurel tree on the moon, and the Chinese name for the laurel, (traditional Chinese: 月桂), literally translates to “moon-laurel”. This is the subject of a story of Wu Gang, a man who aspired to immortality and neglected his work. When the deities discovered this they sentenced Wu Gang to fell the laurel tree, whereupon he could join the ranks of the deities; however, since the laurel regenerated immediately when cut, it could never be felled. The phrase (simplified Chinese: 吴刚伐木) (“Wu Gang chops the tree”) is sometimes used to refer to endless toil, analogous to Sisyphus in Greek mythology. The aromatic laurel leaves are used in many countries of central and southern europe to flavour stews, soups, meat dishes and even fish. They are used to season canned cucumbers or herring or added to give aroma to vinegar. It is also widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in regions with mediterranean or oceanic climates, and as an indoor plant in colder regions. Bay leaves are eaten by the caterpillars of some Lepidoptera, for example the Eastern tiger swallowtail For further information on bay scroll to the bottom of the page! Courtesy Spice Centre The bay tree is indigenous to Asia Minor, from where it spread to the Mediterranean and then to other countries with similar climates. According to legend the Delphi oracle chewed bay leaves, or sniffed the smoke of burning leaves to promote her visionary trances. Bay, or laurel, was famed in ancient Greece and Rome. Emperors, heroes and poets wore wreaths of laurel leaves. The Greek word for laurel is dhafni, named for the myth of the nymph Daphne, who was changed into a laurel tree by Gaea, who transformed her to help her escape Apollo’s attempted rape. Apollo made the tree sacred and thus it became a symbol of honour. The association with honour and glory continue today; we have poet laureates (Apollo was the God of poets), and bacca-laureate means “laurel berries” which signifies the completion of a bachelor degree. Doctors were also crowned with laurel, which was considered a cure-all. Triumphant athletes of ancient Greece were awarded laurel garlands and was given to winners at Olympic games since 776 BC Today, grand prix winners are bedecked with laurel wreaths. It was also believed that the laurel provided safety from the deities responsible for thunder and lightning. The Emperor Tiberius always wore a laurel wreath during thunderstorms. Attributed Medicinal Properties / In the Middle Ages it was believed to induce abortions and to have many magical qualities. It was once used to keep moths away, owing to the leafs lauric acid content which gives it insecticidal properties. Bay leaf has many properties which make it useful for treating high blood sugar, migraine headaches, bacterial and fungal infections, and gastric ulcers. Bay leaves and berries have been used for their astringent, carminative, diaphoretic, digestive, diuretic, emetic and stomachic properties. Bay Oil, or Oil of Bays (Oleum Lauri) is used in liniments for bruising and sprains. Bay leaf has been used as an herbal remedy for headaches. It contains compounds called parthenolides, which have proven useful in the treatment of migraines. Bay leaf has also been shown to help the body process insulin more efficiently, which leads to lower blood sugar levels. It has also been used to reduce the effects of stomach ulcers. Bay Leaf contains eugenol, which has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Bay leaf is also an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. Bay Leaf has also been used to treat rheumatism, amenorrhea, and colic.
