  • Within the City
    by iAN Derrick

The city powers with noise and smells. / I can do without noise. / I am a connoisseur when it comes to smells.

The vibrant city throbs to the beating within the night and it is I the non-dancer that does observe. This is an entry in the RedBubble The City.

I am currently showing several works at the Aroma Cafe in Springwood. They should be there for about a month – if you’re in the area stop in for a great cup of coffee and a friendly chat with Charlie – he loves art and showcases many local artists on the walls of his cafe. Aroma Cafe / 3a Raymond Rd / Springwood / NSW AND, big thanks go to Steve McLaren for organizing this for me. Thanks for your support, as always :) Works on display:

  • Many Thanks to Diane Schuster for allowing me her photograph – Fairy and Flowers. She is a talented artist herself. Flowers are lovely with a cool breeze bringing in their aroma. It’s divine experience.

  • The skunk is one of the most widely recognized mammals, but also one of the most misunderstood. It is a very powerful totem with mystical and magical associations. / Just look how people respond to it! / Usually, with great respect for it and what it can do. / This is what SKUNK teaches ~ how to give respect, expect respect and demand respect ~ helping you to recognize your own qualiteies and how to assert them. / The skunk will not get out of the way of any animal, it moves at its own speed, with its own mind. / The natural enemy of skunk is the Great Horned Owl. / Skunks are fearless, yet peaceful and will warn before spraying ~ firstly stomping its feet and turning around turning its back to you; secondly, raising the tail up, as the gland that sprays is located underneath it; thirdly, too late if you are still in the vicinity, as he turns his head towards you to line up the spray angle. It can spray from 12 – 15 feet with tremedous accuracy and spray up to six times before it must build up naturally for more. / Individuals with skunk medicine (totem) must learn to balance the ability to draw and repel people. / This photograph is in our yard, an orphaned youngster whose mother was probably caught by our resident Great Horned Owl. He has been eating many insects, rodents and on this particular occasion a peacock egg. He is a striped skunk, and though tempted because he’s so cute, in helping him to survive, we just watch and keep the dogs as far away from him as possible! / Here’s Aretha singin’ a little skunk SONG
