An emotional festival… The Monday before Good Friday the Lord of the Earthquakes is taken from the cathedral and carried through the streets. The figure is also known as the Dark Christ, as it is very dark-skinned, and the life-sized Crucifix is borne through the streets of the old town on a massive silver pedestal. The crowd was pulsating with energy and we were glad to have a perch on a balcony to witness the event. Plaza de Armas, Cusco, Peru.
It’s touristy I know… However the beautiful sky, the colours of the traditional dress and the posture of the llamas made me want this picture and I think it was worth sponsoring the local economy a tiny amount to take it. Plaza de Armas, Cusco, Peru.
