  • From atop a mesa in the southern portion of Petrified Forest National Park, the grey, blue, and lavender colors of the Chinle Formations rise above the yellows, purples and reds deposited in what was once a fast-flooding system of rivers and streams below. Fujichrome Velvia on a Canon EOS 10S, EF 28-70mm.

  • This twisted juniper tree sits on the rim of the Grand Canyon. It has reached the end of life’s cycle, but stuck around for one last winter.

  • The pastures in the desert overflow [with richness]. The hills are surrounded with joy. (Psalm 65:12) I took this photo of Monument Valley, Arizona, back in 1997 with my Olympus OM-10 camera. Camera technology sure has come a long ways. / I loved the views back then and then saw it again in 2008. The landscaping looked different for me then. It did not seem as awe-inspiring as when I was 32 years old, but then again, is it times that change or people? This is best viewed as a larger image. This was taken as is,scanned from my OM-10 Olympus Camera, untouched. / /

  • Coots are always defending their territory. These birds fight in the water by slapping each other with their large powerful feet. They may fight to the death, with the dominant bird holding the other under water until it drowns. Most often the defeated coot will swim a long way under water to escape. This bout ended in a draw.

  • As we were looking at these pendulous orbs, a group of young men walked by and said aloud “Oh – Here is the succulent section” talking about the type of cactus that were on display.   • This beauty stopped to say hi at the end of a day of birding in Ramsey and Miller Canyon. He turned into the light just at the right time for this great picture. The Magnificent was just too quick and shy this day.
