  • Abstracted Ariel View – a photo taken from a airplane over the fields of France. The image has been abstracted in Photoshop to create an interesting meander of greens, beiges and browns. This would also make an interesting design for a woven or tufted rug or wall hanging. It would also look great as a framed mounted print. Featured in: Shapes & Patterns – 3rd September 2009. • The symbolism of this piece is quite rich, and in further researches I found out that I ended up making relations between all the representations without consciously being aware of it. The Chemistry is about inner alchemy and how the power of transformation manifests itself through Will. That’s basically my version of the ancient illustrations on alchemy in which we see a dragon-serpent “wrapping” a maiden. In my version, for artistical reasons, I decided not to draw the serpent involving the maiden’s body, but putting her closer to the background, and showing her body changing according to the colors of the environment – which are the colors of the four elements. The serpent is a representation of the unconscious forces of Will. The maiden raises from a pond (the beginning of all things, regeneration, new birth) that has been formerly muddy and still (the dark green color at the edges), and now is made clear by the power of fire (strength, courage, will, passion), or the dragon. A bunch of monarch butterflies come out the pond. The butterfly is one of the symbols of the Gemini sign (Mercury) and the classical representation of regeneration and rebirth. The maiden’s hair turns first into green grass from which 3 lotus flowers (another symbol of rebirth) arise, and then into fire. The dragon’s head show itself among the profusion of hair. The four elements are clearly present, in images and colors: Fire (dragon’s head, the top of the picture, the color red), Earth (grass and leaves, the color green), Air (butterflies, the color yellow) and Water (the pond, the color blue). It’s part of our journey as human beings to face muddy waters throughout our life. But to remain stagnant in them is our choice. We all have the inner strength to being born again, to rebuild ourselves – we just need to accept the changes and look toward the future. We are the alchemists. colored pencil on bristol board / 17×8.5

  • Fairy from A midsummers Nights Dream

  • Watercolor and pencil on illustration board, / 15×20 / 2009 Related work: / The Waterman: Unio Mystica This is the second panel of The Waterman triptych. While the central panel represents the Christ as the macrocosm, the side panels are the microcosm, represented by the Four Elements and their manifestation in the physical world. Ignis Aeris is the yang pillar, the elements Fire and Air. Volatile and oriented upward, these elements are connected to the realms of the abstract thinking and intuition. Fire is the energy, passion and primeval instincts, that need to be balanced by the intellect (Air) in order to manifest in a most constructive way. The certainty of the Divine, that comes from the heart and from a primal knowledge, needs to be shaped by the intellect in order to become less aggressive and to expand (the butterflies rising from the fire and flying upward). Only through a perfect combination of faith and reason we can access the Divine and understand Its Laws. At the basis of the picture, handling the creative power of Fire, we see the Magician of the Tarot, which I represented wearing the skin of Nemean Lion, just like Greek hero Herakles. He represents the first step in the Hero’s Journey, or that path that each one of us need to find out and go through in order to become Whole with the Universe. The Magician is the one who uses his power of will (Fire) and mental skills (Air) in order to find his own path.

  • “Cars Suck” is a traditional bikers teeshirt slogan, and my original version featured a line-screened pic of my Father-In-Law, Cyril Sims. That original tee has sold exceptionally well through my TigerFiSH retail gallery/store. / The pic has so much attitude that the image is now an essential part of the store’s character, so in this new version I’ve over-drawn the pic in Illustrator, then layered it over a posterised version of the original pic. / I’ve made several colour versions to suit different ground colours, they’re not all shown on Red Bubble but are available if you’d like to see them.

Seas of wombs and their sacred silence. Seas of past and forgetfulness, alive in the depths of our souls, dark and mysterious.

  • Watercolor, gouache and pencil on board, / 11×14 / 2009 Model: Kambriel One of my latest passions is the symbolism of the peacock, and how it has been associated to immortality and renewal. His feathers were used as talismans and protection against evil spirits. In the Eastern traditions it has been seen as symbols of wisdom, benevolence, compassion and kind-heartedness. The “eye” in the peacock feather is associated to the pineal gland, making of it a sacred symbol. Through the development of the pineal gland one can awake the Kundalini and achieve understanding of the spiritual world.

  • Watercolor, gouache and pencil on board, / 11×14 / 2009 The heart has a voice and a music, the same ones your spirit have recognized for many ages. The voice of your heart is the voice of freedom. Through it you’ll be able to find yourself and find your inner God. Let that voice be heard, recognize yourself as the creator of your own reality. Put aside all the masks they have made you wear in order to belong to the illusions they created. Don’t waste your life living them. Be what you are born to be.

  • Colored pencils on Bristol board, / 8.5×12 / 2008 I’ve been for quite some time seeking to join two of my biggest passions: astrology and art, two languages with so much in common. Then the idea for the Astroportraits was born. They are very special portraits inspired on your astrological profile. I incorporate to the picture the imagery, symbols and colors referent to the energy patterns showed in your astro chart – Rising sign, Sun and Moon signs, predominant element, Moon Nodes and other important points. The portrait becomes a visual poem, a register of your potentials and talents, reminding you how special and unique you are. A representation not only of your exterior image, but also of your inside, of your heart and soul. This is my own self portrait. I am a Gemini with Leo rising and Moon in Scorpio, and a Water/Air type. It was not easy to create my own portrait, since I identify myself with so many symbols and elements that I thought better to let the intuition go in my favor. In the very last years I’ve been lived a phase of intense changes that made me seek for my strength within, something that I don’t remember to have done so hard before. I remember having made a very rough sketch of a Scorpio (my moon sign) and a Lion (my rising sign), my two inner powers; then I stuck it on the wall and looked at it every time I needed strength, to remind myself that I had that force, that it was in me as part as what I was. Things are surely smoother now, but I wanted my portrait as a perennial register of this power I discovered within myself. Then I drew a Lion, my rising sign, very close to me, almost like a constant companion. This lion arises from the waters, from the big ocean of emotions that characterize all the water types. Although one may think that water people are fragile due to their emotional, sensitive nature, they may be considered extremely strong exactly due to this attunement – they know like nobody how to deal with such world. My Air quality is represented by the color yellow and by the butterflies – also representatives of my sun sign, Gemini. Butterflies go vivaciously from one place to another just like Gemini does. They are also flying animals, symbols of freedom, one of my strongest characteristics. Another reason for picking the butterfly is because it’s one of my favorite animal totems, present in several of my pieces. Butterflies are the symbol of rebirth and transformation and this is why it makes them so special to my eyes. Rebirth and transformation are also keywords of my Moon sign – Scorpio. Another element I created to represent this sign in my portrait was the lotus flower, due to its relation to situations of reconstruction after long struggle or even total loss – the lotus blooms from the mud. It is also a symbol of spirituality, something that is an important part of my daily life and that helps me keep going in spite of any obstacle. A triskele, Celtic symbol of life cycles, shows on the top with the glyphs of Gemini, Leo and Scorpio. • This is my first attempt at creating the tilt shift effect in Photoshop. Best viewed large This is the Trocadero, Paris, capital city of France. I took this from the top of the Eiffel Tower. The Trocadero is one of the few vantage points where the Eiffel Tower can be seen in full view. I don’t have many ariel view shots in my collection of photos, but this one thankfully served as a good image for this particular effect. For details on how I created this, please see here. Anyone who has photoshop or a photo editing program can do this. Adjustment of hue saturation and brightness, increase and adjustment of curves to increase contrast and colour further. Slight crop of original shot, as seen below. Couldn’t resist adding this after pmistric brought it to my attention. Its the sing-a-long version!!: MCN:C7XFY-U98AX-BYVB6
