Ardnamurchan Point and its lighthouse. The most westerly point on the UK mainland and is situated on the west coast of Scotland,OS NM416673. Although on the mainland it feels more remote here than on many an island. Indeed, children living in the scattered settlements on the peninsula have to catch the ferry to go to school in Tobermory on the nearby island of Mull.

From MacCaig’s Tower, over the rooftops of Oban and Oban Bay, where the little car ferry, the Eigg chuggs its way back from Lissmore. Across the bay is the island of Kerrera and beyond that, the Firth of Lorn, acrross which can be seen the islands of Lissmore on the right and Mull on the left. Beyond these are Morvern and the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. (A black & white rendition of MacCaig’s Tower) The larger, the better
