I liked the way the clouds reflected onto the mirror facade of this tall tower building. The blues set it off for me – really like these shades of blue and the softness of the fluffy white clouds gave it an almost surreal feeling for me. / This was taken in St Julian’s, Portomaso – Malta Oct 2007.
The view looking up at the Coops Shot Tower in Melbourne. I love the contrast between the old and the new. / / / / © Shelley Heath (aka Soul Creates), Copyright 2008, All rights reserved.
The information says: “Built in 1910, the Pigeon Tower was an elaborate summerhouse and lookout with three storeys linked by a stone spiral staircase. Ornamental doves and pigeons were kept in adjacent dove cotes and lofts, whilst the Pigeon Tower was reputedly used by Lady Lever for a sewing room. / Extensive repair works have been undertaken to this building including the replacements of the floors in 1974 and in 2005 it was completely re-roofed.” / It is a fantastic place to visit! By far the most famous fictional ghost ship is The Flying Dutchman. The ship has become synonymous with the phenomenon so that “Flying Dutchman” is often used as a generic term for any apparition-type ghost ship. The term may also refer to a real ship that was reported to be seen – often as an apparition – after sinking, or to a ship found floating with no crewmembers on board. According to folklore, the Flying Dutchman is a ghost ship that can never go home, but must sail “the seven seas” forever. The Flying Dutchman is usually spotted from afar, sometimes glowing with ghostly light. If she is hailed by another ship, her crew will often try to send messages to land, to people long since dead. / Versions of the story are numerous. According to some, the story is originally Dutch, while others claim it is based on the English play The Flying Dutchman (1826) by Edward Fitzball and the novel The Phantom Ship (1837) by Frederick Marryat, later adapted into the Dutch story Het Vliegend Schip (The Flying Ship) by the Dutch clergyman A.H.C. Römer. Other versions include the opera by Richard Wagner (1841) and The Flying Dutchman on Tappan Sea by Washington Irving (1855).

The old Shot Tower and new Glass Cone at Melbourne Central shopping centre. The Coops Shot Tower was built in 1890 and was incorporated into the development of the new shopping complex, which was completed in 1990. It is now the feature of the central court, with a huge glass and steel cone to highlight it. I have always found the contrast between the two styles of architecture intriguing. It’s something i have wanted to photograph for a very long time. Featured in Art Of Glass / Featured in Contrasting Perceptions This image has not been enhanced edited or changed in any way.
