This was taken around the middle of the day from the center of the World Heritage listed Melbourne Exhibition Building. I used a 19mm equivalent lens in order to get the whole center piece in, and made a real effort to to stand as directly under the center, and pointing as straight up as possible. To give you some idea of height of the roof , the tiny coloured spots in the center are actually helium balloons that have ascended to the highest point in the building (click for the zoom view to see them better). ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature Urban

Driving along a back road, I saw this strong adobe wall with this grand entrance. The sky was exceptionally blue and the Purple Sage and Spanish Broom were in full bloom everywhere. So, I couldn’t resist adding those into the painting, reminding me of what a beautiful spring it was. This is an original acrylic painting on canvas.

On Main Street in Lexington sits the Southern Inn. This painting depicts the building as it is familiar to those of us who live about; bathed in the light of a bright autumn day. The sun’s light cast strong shadows across the buildings facade and the only working neon sign in town. As it flows across awnings and to the street, it accents a small pile of fallen leaves in the gutter; a seasonal cherry on the visual sundae. Acrylic on panel

A revised version of my ‘Middlesbrough Drops’ watercolour painting. The coal drops on the river Tees estuary, in the 1830’s. / In the foreground, is the Tees river ferry – which in those days, was a small, rowing boat. I love the daunting and weird, distant grey structures, ready to drop the coal upon the collier (coal) ships. My version of a Thomas Harrison Hair, 1837 watercolour. Watercolour and HB pencil.

This is my upload # 100 here. After all, it’s some sort of anniversary, so I thought it was time to have some fun. I took my picture, “The Mill”, and made it into a painting. I used my old, otherwise useless, PhotoDraw programme from Microsoft. Much inspired by David DeWitt, who in his generous comments on the original wrote, that this reminded of a painting by the old Flemish painters. I saw it then, most because of the warm colours and the position of the houses in the back. They look as if they have been put there for perspective reasons. Glad to see it enjoying a revival. / CLICK ON T-SHIRT / / SUN PICTURE THEATRE For Yvonne, Michelle and Margot / The world is revolving faster these days / How did it happen that twenty-four hours / Now seem like eighteen…or less? Back then / The Sun sign flickered day and night / Above the picture theatre, when we jumped / Off the Spotswood bus at Yarraville Station, / To ride the railway gates with the men / And boys, while the women stood back / They swung open like welcoming arms / Scooping us into the land of reel to reel Streamers propelled by light. In the Art Deco / Building with a half sun on top, glowing / Like an icon or cross on a church / Rising up over the sugar refinery, docks / And our real lives we never thought about / While we were in Hollywood, America / The good old U S of A in Australia singing God Save the Queen, while we stood head / To shoulder with women and men dressed in suits / And the other kids who knew all the words / To an anthem sung into our colonial heads / At school and on TV without needing a script / Or subtitles on the bottom of the screen / With a bouncing ball swooping over lyrics. At the matinee we sighed when the lights were dimmed / Slipping down into our seats and out of our bodies / Onto the screen where film goddesses always ended up / With impossible heroes we read about on Fantales wrappers / While we crunched through to chocolate inside vermillion / Jaffas and licked wafered vanilla icecreams. Chilled when the lights went out once upon a time / And the curtains opened to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho / Mother told me to cover my eyes while / She held my ears and screamed so loudly / A rush of shivers snap froze the audience / To their seats. Black and white or / Technicolor…she liked a good murder. While her daughters plagiarised musicals / To re-enact on the front verandah for kids / Who lived on the Avenue. Costumes, makeup, / Some lousy script of song and dance everyone / Sat through and wanted more of every Saturday / After Mum had said: ‘Let’s go to the flicks’ / And we came home from that dreaming place Where the Sun is now derelict and only lights / Up for vandals, who make fires in the dress / Circle, front and back stalls, turning the floors / And ceiling into charcoal as delicate as Violet Crumble. Blue Man is home: he lives in a bungalow modeled after the Incredible’s ranch home, on a floating property. Blue Man’s real name is unpronounceable, so we call him Nit, his mate, Green Girl, we call Nonnie. She made us a pie. They wear skinsuits, electrochemically generated from inside, similar to John Varley’s nullsuits. Their world is low gravity. We’ll be seeing more of them later!
