This photo was taken at Bagan, Burma (Myanmar) at sunset. The light was filtered through the dust. The color in this photograph has not been enhanced or changed. It was just a magical event.

Webb Bridge is down-to-earth, a project Melbourne can be proud of, built among the superannuated towers of Docklands. It suggests, romantically, the fishing nets, cages, middens and naughty hosiery of the old wharfs. It is biological and ethereal, a stab in the dark and sculptural.

We were vacationing in Iran and there were these mausoleums and tombs in tribute to great poets, architecture reminiscent of old Islam and gorgeous tiles and organic paintings on the walls. This shot was almost unintentional, I noticed the light and the shadows and just took the shot, this one shot. I didn’t even look at it on the digital screen of my camera, there was so much beauty around me I didn’t want to waste time, I didn’t want to miss anything. I didn’t see this shot again till I uploaded the pictures onto my laptop. This picture is a reminder of the beauty of Iran.

Angled shot taken inside the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool. Really enjoy finding new angles and views within this building and its a great place to practice my photography. / . / Spent a lot of time with the position and cropping of this image to produce the desired look. / . / Your comments always help. / . / ste / . / Location: The Lady Chapel / . / The first part of the Cathedral to be completed and consecrated for worship was the Lady Chapel. The style of this lovely Chapel, which stands at the far south east corner of the Cathedral, is more elaborate than the main body of the Cathedral in a way which reflects its date and the influence of G F Bodley who was, at that time, working with the Cathedral architect.

Featured in the group Nirvana January 16, 2009. Image taken with the Nikon D40x, using the 18-200mm VR Nikkor lens and the cp filter on January 3, 2009. This shot was taken along 689, near Osterburg PA. I used PhotoMatix to create this HDR image. Captured freehand in the Blackhouse Museum at Arnol, Isle of Lewis. Smoke from the peat fire in the centre of the main room is caught in the light from the only window. Historic Scotland site The museum is well worth a visit to get insights of what life was like in this typical old stone house. The so-called blackhouses did not have a chimney but the peat smoke rose up through the thatched roof. This had the added advantage of keeping the roof from rotting or rain from coming through. This is my homage to the generations of islanders who lived in these houses. Addtional information from Ranald: “The tar from the peat smoke made everything inside black, hence the name. The beasts were often kept at one end of the house, where the floor sloped down. The heat rising off them kept the smoke away. A very clever system.” Nikon D1X, Nikon 18-70 F3.5-4.5G.
