La Rue Obscure is the oldest street in the old town of Villefranche sur Mer on the French Riviera, between Nice and Monaco. It was built on virgin soil at the beginning of the 13th century. La Rue Obscure formed the basis of the rest of the town’s construction on the slopes rising from this coastal lane. It gave inhabitants of the town certain refuge against possible attacks. The ship captains who were forced by storms to anchor in the bay, could make necessary repairs in safety. La Rue Obscure also welcomed precious merchandise, such as wine, in its cellars.

Vegas Abstract . . . after viewing my friend Jean-Louis’ beautiful architectural shots, I figured it wasn’t such a bad idea to add a few of my shots taken in Vegas this past Christmas . . . I like to think of this as ‘buildings with a twist’! LOL . . . Thanks for looking!

Remains of Roman Theatre & Santa Maria La Vieja Cathedral, Cartagena, Spain
by SquealiaUS$3.42–US$91.20
The Roman Theatre of Cartagena was built at the end of the 1st Century BC when Cartagena was a Roman colony, in the era of Emperor Augustus. The theatre was not discovered until 1987 and many of the finds are in the Archaeological Museum. / The terraced seats were built into the northern side of La Concepcion hill which had been excavated to create seating for 6000. Santa Maria La Vieja Cathedral, which you can see mainly at the top left to centre of the photo was built in the 13th Century from materials taken from the Roman theatre. By the sixteenth century, the theatre had been lost to fire and its remains built over and remained well hidden by the town of Cartagena as it grew over the ruins, and was not discovered again until 1987. The town was asked to vote as to whether or not, the buildings standing there in 1987 should remain, or be torn down to find the ruins. The town voted in favour of the excavation and reconstruction of the Roman Theatre. My photo shows how it stands today. Once again in the glory of Rome, many of it’s fine treasures still remaining. © Copyright 2008 Squealia, All Rights Reserved

La Recoleta in the centre of Buenos Aries, is a vast and extraordinary necropolis that has become relevant historical and artistic monuments of the country. Its were the remains of Eva Peron lie. And its just staggeringly beautiful and massive. Its a world class expamle of funeral architecture and has been declared a heritage site. Still using film here. Ifford HP5. Then given its dark sepia cast to intensify the nostalgic and removed qualities in the image.
