Traffic flying across Darling Harbour in Sydney – an urban river amongst monoliths of buildings. And in the distance, rolling hills around the Avon in Cornwall, UK. See this on a wall colour of your choice; see actual size detail.
Coal drops at Benwell, Newcastle upon Tyne, early Victorian era. / In the Thomas Hair style, 1830’s. HB pencil and watercolour. 140lb paper.
The Royal Albert Bridge that spans the Tamar river on the border between Cornwall and Devon in South-West UK. / This railway bridge was opened in 1859 and was built by probably the best engineer of the Victorian era, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and is still in daily use now. / I took this shot on a cold November morning just before the sun fully came up. The town of Saltash in Cornwall are celebrating the 150th anniversary of this grand old bridge and of Brunel himself in May. For details of events please Click Here See my video on YouTube
My original is graphite pencil on watercolour paper. Been sitting on it for a while and finally gotten around to putting him on a shirt. You won’t see it even in larger view, but every part is triangulated, as in an architectural spaceframe.
The Old Post Office Building in Washington, D.C. has a very tall clock tower. Inside the tower, there is a tiny window where you can see the back of the clock face. We happened to be there at the right time, when the sun was shining through! Built in the late 1890s, this building served as a post office for only 15 years until it was considered outdated and inefficient. There were many attempts to tear it down but a petition or protest always saved it. Today it is a shopping and eating center. You can sit inside on the ground floor, eat your Chinese food, and look up almost all the way to the top.
...or maybe not, I’ll let you decide

A revised version of my ‘Middlesbrough Drops’ watercolour painting. The coal drops on the river Tees estuary, in the 1830’s. / In the foreground, is the Tees river ferry – which in those days, was a small, rowing boat. I love the daunting and weird, distant grey structures, ready to drop the coal upon the collier (coal) ships. My version of a Thomas Harrison Hair, 1837 watercolour. Watercolour and HB pencil.
Industrial Landscape
Taken at the old Emge meat packaging plant and slaughterhouse in Fort Branch, IN.
A very large crane in Glasgow; used to be used for lifting steam locomotives on to ships.

Find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the pattern of the shadows, the light and dark which that thing provides. / - Junichiro Tanizaki photo taken at paisley textile mill

I’m thrilled and honored and humbled to report that “Industrial Decay” has been nominated for entry into the prestigious group Pay It Forward by the darling, beautiful and talented Sandy - budrfli who had this to say about my image: / “Not only is her art exemplary, but her attitude and joy is inspiring and full of excited joy! Everything she enters and every comment she writes makes me smile!” Thank you Pay It Forward group, and thank you dear Sandy-budrfli!!!!! I discovered this beauty on a side road, not far from Claysburg, PA. I don’t know what it was or what it manufactured. All around this area are lovely large farm homes … also in a state of sad decay. Image taken December 28, 2008 with the Nikon D40x, and my new 18-200mm VR (YAY!) with the CP filter. I did some work on the sky (which was nasty white) to give it more of a moody appearance, gave it the old Orton, then added a dry brush layer. A post script: Thanks to DDebil , I’m hearing that this structure is in all likelihood a feed mill where corn would be ground and molasses and other nutrients added to make feed for the hogs. Considering all of the large farms in the immediate area, this makes perfect sense!! Thank you, DDebil!!!

He left her laying on the floor on a dirty mattress, the place he left her every night, the place he told her to / now call “Home” as he walked away from her, the hatred streaming through her veins made her snap, she wouldn’t go down like this, she called out to him, “Don’t Leave”, turning eyeing her suspiciously, he walked back to her, not knowing she had found her weapon earlier that day, a brick in the corner under some cardboard, behind her back she gripped it with one hand, the other hand reaching out to him, as he drew close she brought the brick down hard on the side of his head..down he went….she ran towards the door slamming it shut..,,finally she was free!!! She didn’t know which way to run, she just ran..as she rounded the corner.. to her utter relief parked not 20 ft from her was a police car..screaming..running she now knew she was safe..in no time she would be back home..”Her Home” she drew closer seeing him getting out of his car approaching her, she ran..throwing herself in the safety of his open arms..crying..”there..there now..your safe” he said ..she stiffened..knowing that voice..No it can’t be!!! She looked up right into the eyes of her worst nightmare..Him..he looked down, kissed her forhead “ wrapped his arms tightly around her waist..Now sweetie lets go back HOME..
