  • I actually took this shot while “You’re not the only one” by Ammonia was playing on my Ipod. Great song fitting image. “Cuts like pins and needles, miles and miles away. I took the shot through the Windscreen of my car. I really like the effect, it seems quite sad and intimidating.

  • Featured in Neighborhoods May 3, 2009. BEST VIEWED FULL SIZE! Another lovely little shop in Old Towne Ellicott City, Maryland, the architecture of which is typical of the entire town … June 10, 2008. Image taken with the Nikon D40x and the 18-135mm lens, hand-held. Shutter was at 1/200 and aperture was f/7.1. Finished off in Photoshop and hdr in Photomatix with one original jpeg image, duplicated and lightened and darkened to create three images. HDR processed in Photomatix at e.v. spacing 2. A tiny bit of local history for Ellicott City, from Wikipedia … In 1772, three Quaker brothers from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, chose the picturesque wilderness, upriver from Elk Ridge Landing (known today as Elkridge, Maryland) to establish a flour mill. John, Andrew, and Joseph Ellicott founded Ellicott’s Mills, which became one of the largest milling and manufacturing towns in the East. In 1867, a city charter was secured for Ellicott’s Mills, and the name was changed to “Ellicott City”. It was designated an historic district in 1973 and today serves as the county seat for Howard County, Maryland. Companion piece to: A Seat In The Shade

Best Viewed Full Size I found this barn along Route 30 between Breezewood and Bedford in PA. When I first saw it only a couple of years ago, parts were still being used for hay storage. But when I drove past recently, March 15, 2009, it was clear I was looking at something that won’t be around much longer. I don’t know the history, but directly across the road had been a very interesting, 2-story log house that is gone now, as well. Only the brick fireplaces and a pile of rubble remain. Image taken with the Nikon D40x using the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens, handheld. This is a composite image … I used a threatening sky that I shot in my backyard at the end of March, ‘09. Post processed for the sky composite addition, then, using a single image which I duplicated twice at 2 +/- eval in Photoshop, I created the hdr in Photomatix. Back to Photoshop for some more clean up work. All together, probably about 7 layers.

Best Viewed Larger National Historical Park, located in Tumacacori, Arizona, not far from Tucson. “The Tumacácori Mission was established in 1691 by Father Eusebio Francisco Kino and is the oldest Jesuit mission site in southern Arizona. The mission was originally called San Cayetano del Tumacácori and was located in a different location than the National Monument. It was established at an extant native O’odham or Sobaipuri settlement on the east side of the Santa Cruz river. The location of this Sobaipuri settlement has been identified by archaeologist Deni Seymour who excavated and reported on the original San Cayetano del Tumacacori mission site, revising the earlier opinions of Charles Di Peso as to where this settlement was located. / After the Pima rebellion of 1751, the mission was moved to the present site on the west side of the river and renamed San José de Tumacácori. By 1848, the mission was abandoned and began falling into severe disrepair. Preservation and stabilization efforts began in 1908 when the area was declared a National Monument by President Theodore Roosevelt and continue today.” The above condensed from Wikipedia and literature from the National Park Service at Tumacacori. Image taken with the Nikon D40x with the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens and cp filter on April 18, 2009, shutter speed 1/200, aperture f/8.0, exp 0.00, iso 100.
