Driving along a back road, I saw this strong adobe wall with this grand entrance. The sky was exceptionally blue and the Purple Sage and Spanish Broom were in full bloom everywhere. So, I couldn’t resist adding those into the painting, reminding me of what a beautiful spring it was. This is an original acrylic painting on canvas.

The Cloister World / ______ Higher quality image Here ______ This photo was done during a one-day trip to the fascinating city of Évora. Classified as UNESCO World Heritage Site, one can easily get amazed at the diversity and quantity of historic buildings, including Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. / ................................................................................. / This is one of those special places where, on a weekend, without the noise of cars and the crowds, you can forget present time, and feel immersed somewhere in the past, when beauty was cherished, and schedules were not a concern. / ................................................................................ / One of the places I’ve visited was the amazing Cathedral of Évora, and one of it’s strongest surprises: an exquisite and captivating cloister. / ................................................................................. / Cloisters have always fascinated me. In the past they were the place, inside a monastery, where the fusion of nature and men was strongest. Four cold stone corridors and a garden in the center, adorned with profound meditation, trying to reach the highest answers. / ................................................................................. / During the first 15 minutes I had some strong clouds in the sky, but the sun was uncovered and very strong. I tried to capture some photos, trying to properly expose both the building and the sky, but this proved to be impossible, even with ND Grads. Fortunately, mother nature helped, and the clouds finally covered the sun. Not only this helped in getting a correct exposure of the scene, but also lended a very special lightning to the whole scene, much different from the harsh light I had 15minutes before. This was the time to start shooting, and in 10 minutes I was able to cover some shooting angles I had planned beforehand. Here you can see one of them, hoping the image will be able to “capture” you into that magical place… / .................................................................................... / José Ramos

The information says: “Built in 1910, the Pigeon Tower was an elaborate summerhouse and lookout with three storeys linked by a stone spiral staircase. Ornamental doves and pigeons were kept in adjacent dove cotes and lofts, whilst the Pigeon Tower was reputedly used by Lady Lever for a sewing room. / Extensive repair works have been undertaken to this building including the replacements of the floors in 1974 and in 2005 it was completely re-roofed.” / It is a fantastic place to visit! The Palm House was erected in 1881 – 1882. / One hundred and thirteen metres long, the Palm House consists of a 28-metre high central pavilion and two lateral pavilions which are three metres lower. Linked by tunnel-like passages, the pavilions contain different climatic zones: a ‘cold’ house to the north, a temperate zone in the central pavilion and a tropical climate in the south pavilion. / The Schönbrunn Palm House was the last of its type to be constructed in continental Europe. / / More information / Inside the Palm House: 360° panorama (have a look – quite impressive!)

This painting depicts a peaceful courtyard scene on a warm summer morning in Old Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico. All proceeds from this work are to be donated to the Philadelphia Mission to feed, clothe, and provide medicine and education to the starving children in Africa. Blue Man is home: he lives in a bungalow modeled after the Incredible’s ranch home, on a floating property. Blue Man’s real name is unpronounceable, so we call him Nit, his mate, Green Girl, we call Nonnie. She made us a pie. They wear skinsuits, electrochemically generated from inside, similar to John Varley’s nullsuits. Their world is low gravity. We’ll be seeing more of them later!

The International Peace Garden is a 3.65 sq. mi. (9.46 km²) park located on the border between Canada and the United States, in the state of North Dakota and the province of Manitoba. Established on July 14, 1932, the park plants over 150,000 flowers each year. Main features of the garden include an 18 foot (5.5 m) floral clock display, fountains, a chime, and twin 120 foot (37 m) concrete towers straddling the border with a peace chapel at their base. The chapel walls are inscribed with notable quotes about peace. / The Arma Sifton bells is a chime of 14 bells cast by Gillett & Johnston bellfounders. The bells were a gift from Central United Church of Brandon, Manitoba, in 1972. The tower was supplied by North Dakota Veterans and dedicated in 1976. / Carrillon TowerSome building remains of the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001 have been placed in part of the garden. I had decided to give this some extra ummph taking out the sky and adding a night time one. I used the 2 photos I took and put them toghether and used brushed for the cosmic effect. It was a lot of work in CS3, but also fun to see the outcome. /

Ancient Bridge Cottage in the delightful old world village of Buckland-in-the-Moor in Devon’s Dartmoor National Park after a recent complete no expense spared refurbishment, including a new thatched roof sits in a beautiful natural woodland garden. I am sure many the romantics amongst us have dreams of living in a character filled chocolate box cottage like this, I know I certainly would. This statue, named The Genius of Architecture is in West Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland. It shows a crowned woman with two male kilted children at her feet. One shows plans for approval whilst the other kneels to apply mortar to a pillar. It represents the crowning of the theory and practice of Art. Edinburgh Castle can be seen in the background. Designed in 1862 by William Brodie 1815- 1881 (not to be confused with the infamous William Deacon Brodie) the statue was not unveiled until 1891 ten years after the artists’ death. Brodie was a prolific sculptor and is responsible for a number of statues in Edinburgh and Glasgow including James Young Simpson also in West Princes Street Gardens and the bronze statue of Greyfriar’s Bobby outside Greyfriars Kirk.
