Another excursion from my more normal landscapes, but shows my love of modern architecture. This is a bridge crossing the Yarra in Melbourne. I love the modern architecture in Melbourne. This image reminds meof another William Gibson quote: “A graphic representation of data abstracted from the banks of every computer in the human system. Unthinkable Complexity.” – William Gibson
Taken while driving over Sea Cliff Bridge between Stanwell Park and Wollongong, about an hour and a half south of Sydney. Definitely worth a look – an architect’s dream!

This is one of the many bridges crossing the Susquehanna River at Harrisburg, PA. The Susquehanna is nearly one mile wide at places near Harrisburg PA. This section of the river was picked by John Harris to establish a ferry operation, thus founding Harrisburg.

The Erasmusbrug (“Erasmus Bridge”) is a cable stayed bridge across the Nieuwe Maas river, linking the northern and southern halves of the city of Rotterdam, Netherlands. / The Erasmusbrug was designed by Ben van Berkel and completed in 1996. The 808 metre long bridge has a 139 metre-high asymmetrical pylon, earning the bridge its nickname of “The Swan”. The southern span of the bridge has a 89 metre long bascule bridge for ships that cannot pass under the bridge. The bascule bridge is the largest and heaviest in West Europe and has the largest panel of its type in the world. The bridge was officially opened by Queen Beatrix on September 6, 1996, having cost 165 million Dutch guilders (about 75 million euros) to construct. Shortly after the bridge opened to traffic in October 1996, it was discovered the bridge would swing under particularly strong wind conditions. To reduce the trembling, stronger shock dampers were installed. The bridge was featured in the 1998 Jackie Chan film Who Am I? In 2005 several planes flew underneath the bridge as part of the “Red Bull Air Race”. In 2005, the bridge served as the backdrop for a performance by Dj Tiësto titled “Tiësto @ The Bridge, Rotterdam”. The performance featured fire fighting ships spraying jets of water into the air in front of the bridge, a fireworks barge launching fireworks beside the bridge, and multi colored spot/search lights attached to the bridge itself. source wikipedia Taken with a Nikon D70s with a Sigma 18-200mm on a Manfrotto 055XPROB with a 804RC2 head.

This is not your “usual” shot of the S.F. city skyline and Bay Bridge that you are used to seeing… those are shot from overhead. There are reasons this view is not seen all over the place… To get to this location, there are a lot of obstacles to overcome. Sheer drops with nothing but rocks and ocean below abound, jagged metal from construction jut up from the ground when you least expect, and the keep out signs from the government didn’t help to settle my nerves any either. For that last reason you don’t want to use your flashlight as you head down the slopes for fear of the coast guard seeing you. That makes the afore mentioned problems magnified. So… all that said, it was a calm beautiful night on the bay and once I reached this area, I found this sight so breathtaking that it took me easily five minutes before I remembered why I came to the spot. Ribblehead Viaduct is a railway viaduct across the valley of the River Ribble at Ribblehead, in North Yorkshire, northern England. It is the longest and most famous viaduct on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, a railway line passing through some spectacular British scenery. Ribblehead railway station is located less than half a mile to the south of the viaduct. / Designed by the engineer John Sydney Crossley. The first stone was laid on 12 October 1870 and the last in 1874. It is 104 feet (32 m) high and spans 440 yards (402 m). It is made up of twenty-four arches. It is located at the foot of the mountain of Whernside. / The viaduct is curved, and so may be seen by passengers on the train. The train journey from Settle to Carlisle is short enough to allow the Yorkshire Dales holidaymaker to make a return day trip (steam-hauled, in the tourist season) including a few hours in the border town of Carlisle.
