Archie Shepp is one of the world’s greatest saxophonists and a leading interpreter of the blues in African Arts Music. Influenced by Clark Terry and John Coltrane, Archie emerged, along with John, Pharoah Sanders and Ornette Colemen, as one the strongest and most articulate musical voices in the avante-gard movement during the mid 1960s. Archie is a multi-dimensional man of culture: a saxophonist, pianist, singer, playwtright, poet, and professor of history of revolutionary music. He has been one the champions of African-American culture. The revolutionary impact is evidenced in ATTICA BLUES. I continue to be deeply impacted by his music is a spiritual inspiration to the creation of my art. This detailed pencil portrait is 18×24 on off-white achival paper. Sold. On Permanent Exhibition: Arturo’s Jazz Theater, Southfield, MI. It is one of my best works to date.

Featured in the Capturing Emotion Group – November 2008 Collaboration with Henk Stolk Centuries ago, they knew each other…..She an innocent in the beginning, and he a powerful force in the underworld. But he had his eye on her. Her curiosity and desire to know and learn things about him lead her into his world. He could see through her. He knew that deep down, hidden inside her soul. That she had a deep dark power within her screaming to emerge. He was determined to bring it out of her so she could reign with him in the underworld, as he knew she would be a mighty queen. After a short time, he grew tired of waiting and she was eager to see what he had in store for her. She met with him, and he lead her to his chambers in the late of the night. She remained a bit quiet and just watched him. He walked out of site…and out of nowhere, there he was behind her. He bit her, an infection of his evil surged her soul, but her blood, it burned….although, he did not stop a moment too soon. She felt this power, and in turn, feasted upon him as well. For centuries to come, they have ruled the underworld, both confident, untouchable, and powerful. They are immune to destruction, ignore interruption, and destroy those that attempt to get in the way. So should you ever be out in the darkness of the night, just remember, you could fall victim to their hunger. They will show no mercey. When you hear the rushing of the wind, and it feels cold upon your skin, beware. They are near, watching, waiting….....to satisfy the thirst…...they must feed. / Have a Safe Holiday to those whom are celebrating All Hallows Eve! Digital

When the darkness falls, they lie in the shadows, stalking their victims. Their thirst must be satisfied before the sun comes up over the horizon. Once they have had the feast of the night, they shall return home, to the castle they dwell in. What lies within those walls will not be revealed…..so should you ever dare wander out there, proceed at your own risk….for you may not return home….. Archie Manning, Louisiana Football Legend and father to three sons which have all excelled in Football. Peyton & Eli are standout Quarterbacks in the National Football League. Big brother Cooper was a great quarterback for Old Miss University – he had a very bad injury which prevented him from pursuing a career in professional football – He is a financial consultant in New Orleans Louisiana. This was captured at an art show I was a part of to raise money for MS (multiple sclerosis) / Cooper Manning MC’d the event, held at the Renaissance Arts Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana. This is based upon a hand drawn axonometric “folley” I did as part of my architecture course. It’s supposed to be some kind of abstract childrens playground thingie. ;-) If you wish for colour tweaking/alteration etc please don’t hesitate to contact me. :-)

Aboriginal songwriter, musician & singer, Archie Roach, was a recent guest artist, accompanied by his wife (singer/songwriter) Ruby Hunter, at a recent community Family Fun Day, organised/hosted by yours truly, colleagues and volunteers. This is one of many photos I took of our performers, events and people throughout the day. The original photo was of Archie on stage with a somewhat boring marquee as backdrop, so I decided to put the emphasis on Archie, and ‘spruce’ it up a bit, blending it with one of my cloud/sky photographs, and re-working the colour and lighting. I have the honour and the pleasure of knowing Archie, and have had several enjoyable opportunities to share time, conversation and a few laughs with him over the years. His life and testimony is more than just interesting, and much of him as a person — his depth and sincerity, his views and experiences — are expressed through his music/lyrics. I am proud to know him as a gentle-man and a friend. As performers, Archie and Ruby have travelled the world stage, and continue to be in high demand, attending the smallest to the largest of festivals and functions, here and overseas, although Archie is inclined to not want to travel “too far” these days, and prefers spending as much time as possible with his children and ‘large’ family, residing in a small & quiet rural/coastal town in Victoria (Australia). In my view, Archie is a unique Australian, and a walking testimony to the integrity and resilience of the Aboriginal spirit, and the genuine spirit of Australia — as ‘true blue’ as you’re ever going to find. ~ Archie singing From Paradise here
