Narrow street in Lindos Rhodes
The reason why I like this shot is because it’s a photo of a Sydney icon that many people have, but a view of which that hasn’t really been captured. I also like it because I really approached the taking of this shot correctly. From knowing the right lane to be in, to having all the settings in the camera properly preset, to having the right camera and lens ready. And then I got lucky – the cloud cover was just right to avoid blow-outs and just for ONCE there was enough of a break in traffic that cars didn’t get in the way. I know it’s not quite perfect but it’s pretty much exactly what I set out to photograph. this photo won first place in a Pentaxforums.com members competition on the theme Symmetry in February 2008. Woohoo!!
One of my all time favourite spots in the hinterland of Queenslands Gold Coast. This is known as Natural Arch or Natural Bridge at Springbrook. After a good rain, this can really be over-powering and well worth the drive/walk to see it.

The Gateway Arch, St. Louis, Missouri / / It was raining and extremely foggy, so this is the clearest shot I could get, but it just shows how high up it is to be enveloped by clouds. / / / / The Arch is the tallest national monument in the United States at 630 feet; it is the city’s best known landmark and a popular tourist attraction. / / Construction began February 12, 1963 and the last section of the Arch was put into place on October 28, 1965. / / The Arch is a structure known as a catenary curve, the shape a free-hanging chain takes when held at both ends, and considered the most structurally-sound arch shape. The span of the Arch legs at ground level is 630 feet, the same as its height. / / Each year, approximately a million visitors ride the trams to the top of the Arch. The trams have been in operation for over 30 years, traveling a total of 250,000 miles and carrying over 25 million passengers. / / The Arch weighs 17,246 tons. Nine hundred tons of stainless steel was used to build the Arch, more than any other project in history. / / The Arch was built at a cost of $13 million. The transportation system was built at a cost of $3,500,000. / / In order to ensure that the constructed legs would meet, the margin of error for failure was 1/64th of an inch. All survey work was done at night to eliminate distortion caused by the sun’s rays. Since the Arch was constructed before the advent of computer technology, relatively crude instruments were used for these measurements. / / The Arch sways a maximum of 18” (9” each way) in a 150 mph wind. The usual sway is 1/2”.
Earth Temple – A digital montage constructed using three different digital photographs from which portions were deleted to allow room for the other components of the final image. This work was inspired by my love of nature and the environment and the many breath-taking sights that are all around us if we take the time to stop and look ! The water and forests are two of my favourite parts of nature, so I imagined a magical place and then made it a visual reality.
The original painting is acrylic 36×24 inches and has been sold to a private collector. The painting is based on a photograph by Rebecca Tocci See my other Paintings at arts-fine.co.uk

Tynemouth Priory was founded early in the 7th century. / In 800 the Danes plundered Tynemouth Priory. / Afterwards the monks strengthened the fortifications sufficiently to prevent / the Danes from succeeding when they attacked again in 832. / However, in 865 the church and monastery were destroyed by the Danes. / At the same time, the nuns of St Hilda, who had come there for safety, were massacred. The priory was again plundered by the Danes in 870. / / The priory was destroyed by the Danes in 875. / The small parish church of St Mary remained. / This Chapel is behind the Blue door. / When entering it is truly stepping back in time.

The Colosseum in Rome, Italy during a sunrise.
A 5:30am rise for a beautiful sunrise that cast lovely pink hues across the sky. This stunning limestone formation can be missed against the better known Loch Ard Gorge alongside. These beautiful indented coves and limestone stacks and arches, weathered by the relentless surging seas, form part of the famous Port Campbell National Park. Taken with a Canon 400D, a Sigma 10-20 ultra-wide at 16mm, 15 sec exposure, ISO 100 at f/22.
A view of the inner corridors at the world famous Santa Barbara Courthouse. / The Santa Barbara County Courthouse is located at 1100 Anacapa Street, Santa Barbara, California. Designed by William Mooser III. and completed in 1929, the Spanish Colonial Revival style building replaced the smaller Greek Revival courthouse of the same location. It is credited with the creation of the trend celebrating the Spanish architectural influences in the region. Occupying an entire city block in downtown Santa Barbara, the courthouse hosts many events, particularly at the Sunken Garden, site of the 1872 courthouse. / The courthouse is composed of four buildings, totaling 150,000 square feet (14,000 m2). The courthouse also contains a Jail Wing; however, the wing is no longer used to hold prisoners. Visitors may take elevators to reach the summit of the 85 ft (26 m) “El Mirador” clock tower. / Image is an HDR, compiled of 7 raw images / Nikon D700 / 28 mm 2.5 nikon • Top ten Hallways Challenge Mood & Ambience Group April 2009 / • Featured in the Addicted Photographer Group, March 2009 / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—--

May, 2009 / Featured in Gruop: Live, Love, Dream May, 2009 / Featured in Gruop: All in, “Editing” ======================================= Arches was taken by a very good friend while on her visit to Disney World in Florida in Feb, 09 / She challenged me to take this single photograph and turn it into a HDR Image. I made three copies of the original. / First copy I reduced the exposure (Darken) / Second copy I enhanced exposure – Add reflections in the floor and enhanced the floors. / Third copy I enhanced the colours and textures on the marble post. / The original I left as is. / All four shot were merged and processed in Corel HDR. / Cleaned and removed noise. After a few hours of work I may say that I am quite please with the results. A very special Thank to Miss. Jenn Shiels for the original photo for this project. Best Viewed Large. Part of private collections. No longer available. =======================================
