Some say your hair still grows after you die – perhaps it’s reaching out for something to hold onto. Many thanks to the wonderful Miss Jo O’Brien who overcame her fears to model for this image.
Sorry couldn’t think of a decent name…. This is one of the patient lists from Aradale Asylum in Ararat. This particular page (out of the few hundred I have) has 14 patients that died, 7 Patients cured and 2 escaped patients. No wonder it was know as the place to die. Behind the list is the picture I took at Aradale of the walkway and just for something different I put in someone looking a bit fed up. Better Viewed Large… I can not remember how link the bigger version
“A safe but sometimes chilly way of recalling the past is to force open a crammed drawer. If you are searching for anything in particular you don’t find it, but something falls out at the back that is often more interesting.” / James M. I walked down a path and looked to see a third angel sitting on a bench. If I sit here thinking my mind will travel miles was all it said. Thank you to my model Luckyvegetable and to the assistants Jo and James The Ground Angel Series / / / /
Taken at Aradale Asylum / Thanks James for pushing my button ;) She had been there for a long time watching the poor unfortunates come and go, most left with a small amount of hope, some however, would leave with dark soulless eyes and complete hopelessness. Read more here
She died here but never left, she walks the halls and grounds with her candle to light the way. I was playing with lighting and shutter speeds in this, this is unedited except for a bit of brightness added to it. From the Ghost Series at Aradale Mental Asylum weekend. Model: Kheltic / Photo: Me
/ / / Reload of an older image… / / Model: Loki / Concept: Loki / Location: The old Aradale Asylum – Ararat, Victoria / This is an a fun shot that was taken at a weekend in Aradale’s old mental asylum, which has been closed down for about 20 years now. Loki was made up for a shoot that I took part in about a cow’s revenge on a butcher (I was the cow!). Neither had anything to do with mental illness or the Asylum’s history. Those themes were covered with different shots and write ups. Not all of the photographs were to do with Aradale’s history – a history which all of us appreciated and connected with whilst there. The blood was a home made recipe made up by the talented and passionate Jo O’Brien, it was very much non toxic and edible! / / / /
I’m haunting the hallways now.
Part 1 of the “Herbivores Revenge” series. Concept I planned ages ago but had a little trouble getting Daisy her mask – eventually sourcing in Sydney. Special thanks also to the Butchered Butcher and OzUnderground for the makeup work.
