At the moment drawing and painting the 12 signs of the Zodiac is my absolutely Hit in order to be creative and to create a calendar with this theme for 2009. / This watercolour pencil drawing on paper, size 42 cm / 60 cm, is part two of the new series. AQUARIUS: / January 21 – February 19 / Symbol is Water Bearer / Element is Air / Ruler is Uranus / Classical music is Beethoven Child of Global Orientation Aquarians adore unusal things and new ideas.Their lives are full of surprises and unexpected turns. / Aquarius is gone ! This image came to me in a dream and a few months later in a meditation a few months before the year 2000. So I decided I would do a painting of what I had “seen”. It represents or expresses the merging of the finite with the Infinite. / This painting symbolises the emergence of the Goddess or Feminine archetype of mercy, compassion, wisdom and love. It expresses how the world’s known Truths are being made known again. The Feminine archetype which is now encircling our world, fully aligns herself with the masculine order (represented by the vertical columns), bringing balance and harmony, and breathing into it Soul, understanding and unconditional love. The symbology throughout the painting represents the “weaving” together of strength and vulnerability, passion and discipline, pragmatism and intuition, the masculine with the feminine, all conjoining together as part of our essence and expression. The passing of the Age of Pisces is symbolised by the water below the columns. The Age of Aquarius is symbolised by the Cosmos, planets and stars (Higher Mind balanced with Heart) The Temple (which includes the body) is symbolic of Spiritual striving and attainment, it reflects the Universe as a whole.

The water carrier, and also afraid of being hurt, if you hurt an Aquarian it will pull down its portcullis and you will be behind it!!! Most unusual and creative people, On a polarity (opposite) to Leo, they can have a lot of Leo traits. but more subtle. / If you want a relationship where you don’t know what is going to happen next choose an Aquarian. They can be so beautifully weird and wonderful, but as I said creative!!! Just don’t hurt them, or you will lose them

Created for and commissioned by Christopher Birtwistle-Smith. This is another creation in my Zodiac series. Traditional / Aquarian Traits Friendly and humanitarian / Honest and loyal / Original and inventive / Independent and intellectual On the dark side…. Intractable and contrary / Perverse and unpredictable / Unemotional and detached Aquarians basically possess strong and attractive personalities. They fall into two principle types: one shy, sensitive, gentle and patient; the other exuberant, lively and exhibitionist, sometimes hiding the considerable depths of their character under a cloak of frivolity. Both types are strong willed and forceful in their different ways and have strong convictions, though as they seek truth above all things, they are usually honest enough to change their opinions, however firmly held, if evidence comes to light which persuades them that they have been mistaken. They have a breadth of vision that brings diverse factors into a whole, and can see both sides of an argument without shilly-shallying as to which side to take. Consequently they are unprejudiced and tolerant of other points of view. This is because they can see the validity of the argument, even if they do not accept it themselves. They obey the Quaker exhortation to “Be open to truth, from whatever source it comes,” and are prepared to learn from everyone. Both types are humane, frank, serious minded, genial, refined, sometimes ethereal, and idealistic, though this last quality is tempered with a sensible practicality. They are quick, active and persevering without being self-assertive, and express themselves with reason, moderation and sometimes, a dry humor. They are nearly always intelligent, concise, clear and logical. Many are strongly imaginative and psychically intuitive, so that the Age of Aquarius, which is about to begin, is much anticipated by psychic circles as an age in which mankind will experience a great spiritual awakening. The Aquarian philosophical and spiritual bent may be dangerous in that it can drive the subjects into an ivory-tower existence where they meditate on abstractions that bear little relevance to life. On the other hand it can help the many who have scientific leanings to combine these with the Aquarian yearning for the universal recognition of the brotherhood of man, and to embark on scientific research to fulfill their philanthropic ideals of benefiting mankind. When some cause or work of this nature inspires them, they are capable of such devotion to it that they may drive themselves to the point of exhaustion and even risk injuring their health. Both types need to retire from the world at times and to become temporary loners. They appreciate opportunities for meditation or, if they are religious, of retreats. Even in company they are fiercely independent, refusing to follow the crowd. They dislike interference by others, however helpfully intended, and will accept it only on their own terms. Normally they have good taste in drama, music and art, and are also gifted in the arts, especially drama. In spite of the often intensely magnetic, forthcoming and open personality of the more extrovert kind of Aquarian, and of their desire to help humanity, neither type makes friends easily. They sometimes appear to condescend to others and take too little trouble to cultivate the acquaintance of people who do not particularly appeal to them. / They do not give themselves easily – perhaps their judgment of human nature is too good for that – and are sometimes accounted cold. But once they decide that someone is worthy of their friendship or love, they can exert an almost hypnotic and irresistible mental attraction on them and will themselves become tenacious friends or lovers, ready to sacrifice everything for their partners and be faithful to them for life. However, they are sometimes disappointed emotionally because their own high personal ideals cause them to demand more of others than is reasonable. And if they are deceived their anger is terrible. If disillusioned, they do not forgive. Aquarians work best in group projects, provided that they are recognized as having a leading part in them. They have a feeling of unity with nature and a desire for knowledge and truth that makes them admirable scientists, especially astronomers and natural historians. They may excel in photography, radiography, electronics – anything connected with the electrical and radio industries – aviation and everything technical. On the arts and humanities side their progressive tendencies can be expressed in writing, especially poetry, and broadcasting, or as welfare workers and teachers. Some have gifts as entertainers and make good character actors (having an ability to mimic) and musicians. The more psychic among them possess healing gifts, especially in curing the mentally sick.

In honor of the sextiling of Jupiter and Mars at 4:29pm EST/US on 10/27/08, I thought it would be interesting to play with the symbology of this particular event… / Remember the song, Age of Aquarius, the group who sang it was the 5th Dimension and was made popular by the Broadway musical “HAIR”... When the Moon is in the Seventh House(Libra/Venus – according to current calendar ended 9/23), however, also note that we humans have been altering time with such things as Daylight Savings, etc…Four days (?) And Jupiter aligns with Mars – the aspect of sextile, links planets in compatible elements, encouraging an active exchange, eager to work together – an exciting conversation…Jupiter is representative of the Producing/Expansion department, that is positive, optimistic and generous – usually associated astrologically by imposing god-like bearded men like Zues or Marduk, with the seat of anger and primitive emotion driving the forces. Also associated with Jupiter are the Eagle, sceptre, thunderbolts, power, equilibrium, justice, optimism, organizing, ability, the color Blue, the East direction, Thursday and the metal, Tin. While Mars, on the other hand, is the security department head, responding with action and self-defense, making one brave, courageous, daring and even fearless. Astrologically, it’s the symbol of the aggressive man, like the Roman God Mars, the Greek Ares, or Mesopotamian Nergal, helmeted with a shield and sword or spear, perhaps mounted, sometimes with a wolf. Also associated with Mars are energy, violence, courage, ardour, tension, fire, iron, the color red, South direction and Tuesday. Then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars… / This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius… / Harmony and Understanding / Sympathy and trust abounding / No more falsehoods or derisions / Golden living dreams of visions / Mystic crystal revelation and the mind’s true liberation – Aquarius… OK, so I’m a hopeful romantic…I can DREAM!!! Pisces, mystical and magical, is the sign of rebirth, eternity and reincarnation. Pisceans are ruled by Neptune, the planet of mystery and this sense of the other-worldliness, can dominate their thinking. They are artistic and creative, and love to dream. They are empathic, kind and compassionate, but their need to swim in both directions at once can mean that the sometimes loose their way. Here, Leo, the Sea Lion, keeps the girls quite safe as they travel on their adventures. I first created several layers of different colours of blues and greens, blended these togetherl and applied gradients. I then overlaid these with the underwater rocks. The mermaids were morphed from the upper part of the girls bodies, with fish tails. Several layers were created for these, and blurred and overlaid to give the effect of movement. The sea lioness was morphed from a lioness’ head with a sea lion’s body and watery effects subsequently painted. The fish, the wreck and the mystical sea horses and sea dragon were added. For the bubbles, I created a bubble brush and applied using different opacities. The rays of sunlight light were added later and colour merged into the whole.
