I’m yet again back on on here looking for some answers after being asked to remove stuff again. I just can’t seem to get it right. Please don’t get me wrong- I don’t want to offend anyone but I’m actually finding it quite difficult to get the right balance. In the past I’ve put up work I think is tasteful or subtle or that has a lot of artistic merit and been suggested to remove it. I put up stuff today that this very afternoon was viewed and commented on by primary school children with their mother present and yet I post it on here and got emails from two people about it’s appropriateness. I’m at the point where if I get one inappropriate comment from someone I freak out that I shouldn’t have posted it. HEEELLLP! I guess what I’m finding so upsetting is that I seem to be unable to predict what is going to upset people. If that is the case, I need some sort of guidelines to work against. I’m also probably extra sensitive about taking stuff down- I’ve never been ‘told to’ but if someone says that it’s concerning them, of course I remove it straight away. I don’t think I’ve ever posted anything “disturbing” and certainly nothing violent. And as I said before, artwork that a mother happily showed her primary aged school children this afternoon caused a problem when I posted them this evening. I just can’t win. It’s really upsetting. I’m basically not going to upload any more work with a person in it until there is some sort of decision about this. I’m not prepared to keep risking it. Can anyone offer some solid suggestions on what you would consider “too much” for a public site because this is starting to get too hard for me. I’m probably coming across as irrational or melodramatic but it’s starting to really upset me that I keep upsetting other people. That’s the last thing I want to do.

  • A sign of the times from China, juxtaposed with a slightly jumbled western imperative…

  • Help Protect Australia From Errorism! Every piece of misinformation helps “these” people… A very old protest design, or rather bricolage (i.e. relexively appropriated design) I had in one of the student uni newspapers some years ago… There is a seperate design for black t-shirts – check it out by clicking on my designer name…

Every piece of misinformation helps “these” people… A very old protest design, or rather bricolage (i.e. relexively appropriated design) I had in one of the student uni newspapers some years ago… There is a seperate design for all the other tshirts (although it looks the same as this one because of the white ink not being used on them).

  • DL-sized collage based on Art Exhibition advertising material. Given that many of these art invitations are very creative and striking in themselves, it’s fascinating finding a balance between what shows thru and what is concealed. Issues of plagiarism and copyright are in play. And Art as a commodity. This work will be shown at the Newtown gallery At The Vanishing Point in their Show of the Season Reality Cheque, opening Friday 19th June 2009. I will be showing a collection of mixed media work using junk mail, business cards, credit cards and advertising material.

  • An appropriation of larry david. / Manipulated image of him.

  • Self-portrait. There was once a day during my internship in Japan when a co-worker came to me and said she had to leave because her grandmother had just passed away. Though my Japanese was okay, I was not familiar enough with the custom to know what to say, and I was not the best with words anyhow; even in English it is hard to know what to say in such circumstances. I said to her “cheer-up” but that was it, and she had to leave so that left little time for comforting. I thought about buying her flowers or making origami roses to give her upon her return, but I wasn’t sure if giving paper flowers would be inappropriate. So I asked my mother’s opinion and questioned whether there were certain colors or types of flowers that are more appropriate for such occasions, or things I should avoid. She said in Japan they would use white for this kind of case and if I could make white lilies, it would be appropriate. So that is what I did, and I gave the paper lilies to my co-worker when she returned. So in the end, though my words could not come through, my sorrow was well expressed. My mouth disappears in the back while the lilies light up brightly in front. My mouth is closed and silent, but the lilies made by my hands bloom a thousand words. • Buttress gave us this design, and we were all like “What does THAT mean then?”, and she was all like “It’s the Agenda” and we were all like “Oh, okay”. Notice, if you will, the Chemical Brothers font she used for the mysterious “B O K”... And, if you care to, do enjoy a selection of her audio works at myspace.com/buttressokneel, interwebmegalink.net, or numerous other odd places on the InterNet.
