Taken from top of the Empire State Building, NYC, 10:00 PM. / It was so windy up there I had to jam my lightweight tripod against the wall with my knee to keep everything still. Originally shot on Fuji 100 ISO color print film (see insert below), scanned to digital on a Canon FS2710 negative scanner, then converted to BW.

After a very long winter (so far) I needed something that sang Spring time is just around the corner! After a lot of fuss, and several hours, in Photoshop and Painter X this is the final result. Every pixel of this piece was re-painted (digitally) by hand. All of the apple blossoms and leaves were created from scratch. As a final touch I added some texture to the piece to give it that last little edge I was looking for. ‘The Serpent Tree’ was inspired by the John Lennon song, ‘Woman’ / which he dedicated to all women everywhere This is a marked change to my normal work. I started my creative life as an artist, painting in oils. I tended to work on large canvasses. In much of my digital art I have been conscious of creating the ‘big scenes’, so this one is such a pleasing change for me. I have to say that I am excited about this change of style.
