  • Truly she is Eilean a’ Cheo – Island of Mists! / The hills you see are the Red Cuillin which lie between Broadford and Sligachan.

  • This is the panorama for the viewpoint at the highest point on Beallach na Ba (Pass of the Cattle) before you start the long steep descent on the other side to Applecross. It’s the southern end of the island of Skye and the corner of the land that sticks out west of Applecross

  • Taken from the beach at Applecross showing the last house in the village and the view across the Sound to Skye and Raasay

  • The Pass of the Cattle – the road over the hills to Applecross.

  • Applecross peninsular, overlooking Loch Shieldaig Amazing how the walls fall down but the chimney stack remains perched precariously :-) Unloved

  • Inhabited and abandoned crofts on the bleak, Applecross Peninsular Scotland. Once home to 3000 in 1850 it now has less than 300 inhabitants The Peninsula is located on the west coast of Wester Ross, directly opposite Raasay, Rona and Skye. Access is by the Bealach nam Bo, or by the coast road from Shieldaig. The Bealach nam Bo is an old drove road used in past times to take cattle to the market. The coast road was completed in 1975, and prior to this, the coastal townships were only accessible by foot path or by sea. The Bealach nam Bo is the highest pass in Scotland at 626m (2053 feet ) above sea level. The road incorporates a number of hairpin bends and is unsuitable for learner drivers, caravans or those of a nervous disposition. However, the views of the Applecross hills, the Cuillins of Skye and the bay are spectacular. The coast road offers an alternative route for those uncertain of the Bealach, and provides panoramic views over the Torridon Mountains and Loch Torridon. Irrespective of which route is taken, the visitor never fails to be impressed by the beauty and grandeur of this rugged coastline. Courtesy of Canon400D Sigma 10-20 DC HSM

  • Long exposure in a howling gale of the Moonlight over the Sound of Raasay, near Skye, Scotland / (Best viewed large) Sony A100 – a 70 second exposure on Lo-80 ISO at F7.1

  • Raasay and the Inner Sound from An Cruinn-leum on the Applecross peninsula, Scotland, as a storm approaches the mainland over an ever more angry sea from Skye and Raasay. The beach had not a soul on it, and few footprints – had it been warmer, I would have gone down to the waterside and taken a second shot of this…....I’m glad I didnt, as it stayed for hours when it arrived. FOR FULL EFFECT, PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO VIEW ENLARGED Ta.

  • Taken from the Bealch na Ba (pass ofthe cattle) the highest road in Scotland upto 2000 feet above sea-level .between Applecross and Loch Carron.. looking out over the Inner Sound is the Isle of Raasay and beyond that the Isle of Skye fantastic viewsof The Cuillins from here on a clear day.

  • Perth skies have been rather enchanting these recent days. We’re getting awesome cloud cover for the past week…I’m always seen running out of the house checking the skies, running back in to wait, then running out again to check 5 minutes later. If this is not a timewaster already, I am furthermore really slacking from Uni work. Lecture and tutorial notes piling up, Pharmacy Business Plan almost nearing due date, workbook still literally empty, drug list not touched since last week’s visit. Oh well…at least today’s shot made my day =) I love Applecross.

  • If a carpark is where they park cars, then what is a place of parked boats called? A boatpark. Yes, I’m awesome. I found a nice photocamping spot on the side of the river, unfortunately it was filled with 1.5m watergrass…so had to set up my tripod and duck within the nice little bushland. Love the dive-into-the-blue concept, it kinda reminds me of the Carribean. Again, I love Applecross.

  • Sunset at one of the jetties located along the Swan River in Perth. Taken with my new EOS 500D. Featured in: All the Colors of the Rainbow, Canon DSLR, Dawn and Dusk Light, Perth, Piers and Jetties, Timber and Water, WA Red Bubbles Mk II, Western Australia. Viewed 712 Times.

  • The clouds part and sunbeams illuminate the scene. Collighillie is an abandoned village on the wild and desolate Applecross Peninsula, reached by a walk of about two miles, on a fairly decent path, from Ard Dubh. A little bit of sad history for you, sent to me by a Flickr contact. ” The villager’s old schoolmaster died and no one from the village was able to teach. The village is so isolated as well. So the government brought in a school teacher from the outside, but unbeknownst to anyone including himself he had TB. By the time they found out it was too late and the whole village succumbed to it.” Shot on a Canon EOS 20D, hand held, f11, single RAW file processed in Photoshop CS3. Metered off a part of the sky. • Please View Large Wikipedia © The Applecross peninsula ( A’ Chomraich, ‘The Sanctuary’ in Gaelic ) is a peninsula in Wester Ross, Highland, on the west coast of Scotland. The name Applecross is at least 1300 years old and is not used locally to refer to the 19th century village with the pub and post office, lying on the small Applecross Bay, facing the Inner Sound, on the opposite side of which lies the Inner Hebridean island of Raasay. This row of houses which is often referred to as ‘Applecross’, and is marked as Applecross on some maps, is actually called ‘Shore Street’ and is referred to locally just as ‘The Street’. The name Applecross applies to all the settlements around the peninsula, including Toscaig, Culduie, Camusterrach, Milltown, Sand, ‘The Street’, Lonbain and many others. Applecross is also the name of the local estate. The small River Applecross flows into the bay at Applecross. Extremely isolated, Applecross was only accessible by boat until the early 20th century, and for many years after that the only road access was over one of Scotland’s most notoriously treacherous roads, the Bealach na Ba (Pass of the Cattle), which crosses the peninsula and reaches a maximum height of 2053 ft (626 m), below the 774 m high Sgùrr a’ Chaorachain. The settlement is now connected via a winding coastal road which travels around the edge of the peninsula to Shieldaig and Torridon. The road skirts the shore of the Inner Sound and Loch Torridon. / Applecross was featured in the television programme Monty Halls’ Great Escape. • The Russel Burn tumbles down from the mountains of Applecross, seen as you take the spectacular drive over the Bealach na Ba ( the Pass of the Cattle ) single track road. It is an old drover’s route, and rises to 2,053 feet, from where, on a clear day, you can see outstanding views of the Western Isles in all their glory. Mostly though, it will be so cold and windy that you will will not want to stay too long !! It is a very wild and remote area, so incredibly beautiful. Taken on a Canon EOS 40D, mounted on tripod, / canon 17-85mm IS lens at 17mm. Polariser fitted, ( to slow the shutter for more blur) / f23, three shot hdr (-2EV , +2EV and 0EV …..from a minus 1 stop underexposure reading 0f f23, 1/15 sec. on Aperture priority ) iso 100, Auto wb, RAW files converted in Photomatix and Adobe CS3. / Finished with a little Orton.
