Mac vs Pc - HELP!!!

I am about to buy a new laptop, as my current one is driving me nuts (far too slow), EVERYONE is telling me to buy a Mac, but no-one is telling me exactly why! My husband (who knows nothing about mac’s) can’t justify the difference in cost and is telling me I should just get the Acer Aspire Gemstone Blue (I must admit I am drawn to the pretty blue lights) http://www.acer.com/gemstoneblue/eng/ , but friends who are ‘into’ photography tell me to get the Apple MacBook Pro (which looks so cool) http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/features.html … I figured what better people to ask than a bunch of v. talented, creative people who use computers and take photos… I don’t know v. much at all when it comes to computers so any advice would be great! All I want it for is photoshop cs3 and playing on the net (can’t live without redbubble). I will have to do some work (after all this is the reason I am asking for a new computer), for my husband at his office where they use window based software. So as far as I can understand I can load windows on the mac and will then be able to use it at my husband office without any trouble??? Can someone, anyone please tell me which I should buy and why – also v. open to any other suggestions…

Feed a cold, an apple a day - it's so confusing!

I just can’t seem to get these old health sayings straight. Some of them just seem down right complicated. / “An apple a day keeps the doctor away…” OK – so you eat an apple every day and don’t have to go to the doctor. But what happens when you get a cold. Do you have to stop eating the apples because if you don’t you can’t get the doctor to come into the examining room? How does he know that you’ve been eating an apple a day anyway? / “You are what you eat.” Well, I guess I’m a pepper. You know – he’s a pepper, she’s a pepper, we’re all peppers. Wouldn’t you like to be a pepper, too? If your not 50-something and from Texas you might not understand that muchly out-dated commercial ditty. Anyway, invision a beautiful, round, green Bell pepper lounging on the beach. She’s under an umbrella, a big chilled glass of Dr. Pepper on the rocks. Yes, I’m a pepper! / “Eat well, drink in moderation, and sleep sound, in these three good health abound.” I do, I do eat well. I very seldom drink anything except Dr. Pepper so I guess I’m a moderate drinker. I don’t always sleep sound but I sleep alot. you see – I’m just confused by all this. / “Feed a cold, starve a fever.” Now that’s the one that’s really confusing. Is it “Feed a fever, starve a cold”? I never can remember and that really causes me concern. I mean, what are you suppose to do? / By chance I recently ran across some remarks made by a professional nutritionist who said there was no truth to the old adage. The nutritionist also said that there was also no validity in the saying if you reversed it. So – I can only glean from all this that it is silly to starve a fever and/or a cold and it’s equally foolish to feed a fever and/or a cold. So – what do you do? Is there an alternative? / With my recent diagnosis of cancer I have had a great amount of well wishing friends who provided food for myself and my family. We have been treated to some of the best dishes in our area. We’ve had homemade meatballs and sub fixin’s that would make Subway’s Jared envious. Warm, gooey, delicious Brownies fresh out of the oven didn’t last long around this house. We have had enchilada casserole’s that had us all saying “Ole!” and Sopapilla Cheesecakes that melted in your mouth. Chicken Fried Steak, Fried Chicken and gravy that the Colonel couldn’t match. A pecan pie that could have earned a blue ribbon at any state fair in the South and a Pork and rice casserole that convinced me that my daughter had inherited her grandmother’s cooking abilities. We were treated to a potatoe casserole that was virtually gobbled up by my two boys before we could get it to the table and chocolate chip cookies that made a very brief visit in the kitchen – then they disappeared. And talk about disappearing acts – you should have seen how fast a whole loaf of homemade bread vanished into thin air. / I’ve said all this not only to brag on the cooking abilities of some very dear friends but to let you know that cancer isn’t all that bad, especially when you eat well. I’ve been feeling really good since I haven’t had to cook in over a week! I’m telling you delicious food has made a huge difference in how I feel. I, therefore, have decided to enter a new saying in the books for all suffering from cancer. It’s not nearly as confusing as those other sayings and it will improve the way you feel – guaranteed. It simply goes like this – “Starve a cold…FEED A CANCER.” You can’t go wrong!

One Bad Apple...

Ya know… it’s just like my dear mother always said to me, that ‘One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch’. That’s just what has happened today. One ‘bad apple’ has just robbed the entire global community of one of my artworks, and reduced the enjoyment of the remainder of my posted artworks for all of my other wonderful viewers. Why is this you ask??! / Well one of my artworks was found posted on another art gallery site by another ‘so-called’ artist. They had to have gotten this image from the RedBubble’s enlarged view of the artwork, as RedBubble is the only place that I had this posted. So now I have to watermark all my artwork enlargements at the bubble. / / To make matters worse, the particular artwork that was stolen was one of my art nude artworks that was created from a shoot of someone I know personally. My muse requested anonymity when graciously giving me permission to post the artwork due to the very conservative atmosphere of their current employer, fearing if her identity were known it would probably result in her losing her position with that employer. I also promised her that I would only post it here at RedBubble. / / Now I look like a liar and an idiot to a friend that trusted me! So now… besides my model friend feeling threatened and a little betrayed, I have had to remove the artwork altogether out of respect and apology to her, as well as contact the other art gallery site about the infringement issue. Please don’t misunderstand… this IS NOT RedBubble’s fault, as being a seasoned web developer and programmer myself, I know that RedBubble does everything in their power to keep this kind of thing from happening. RedBubble itself has more integrity than any other art gallery, over the internet or not, that I have ever dealt with in 35 years in the photography and graphic arts fields. I have no problem with folks right-click downloading the enlarged view of my artworks for their own enjoyment on their own computers, but I VERY MUCH DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE STEALING MY ARTWORK TO POST ELSEWHERE AS THEIR OWN ARTWORK!!! I must apologize to all of my fellow artistsans who give the proper respect to another artists work. A true artist understands the amount of time, work, and soul an artist pours into their artwork. I know that it was not any of you my bubble brothers and sisters. I am so very sorry that you will not be able to enjoy my art without the god awful watermark again. I am so angry… that I had to remove this beautiful artwork! I am so angry… that I had to deface the rest of my artwork with a watermark! I am so angry… that I now have to spend so much time getting the other gallery to remove the infringed artwork, when I could be spending that time making new artwork! I am so angry… that my fellow artistsans are no longer able to enjoy downloading the larger versions of my art without the watermark for their own enjoyment! I am so angry… that I have let down my model friend that trusted my judgment and took my promised word as gospel! I am so angry… with myself, for the trust I have foolishly always, and continue, to give the general public which has allowed this to happen in the first place! It’s just that, in the words of Fox Mulder ‘I want to believe’. But most of all… I am so angry… that ‘just one bad apple…’ Love & Peace, Grouchy ;)

“If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But If you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” George Bernard Shaw When the Romantics exchanged ideas, creative sparks flew between them, generating new art. And look at what they left us. One of the reasons I enjoy the Red Bubble community is knowing that I am not alone in my endeavors.

Hey! I stumbled upon this while trawling through the Creative Pro section of Apple.com.au RedBubble: Creativity online Melbourne, Australia: In early 2007, the creative, technology and business skills of three friends gave birth to RedBubble, an on-line creative community and art gallery. Designed specifically to help photographers, artists and graphic designers display and sell their work on-line, RedBubble is emerging as a driving force in the Australian creative scene; and delivering the technology foundation for the company’s success is a broad-based Apple strategy…. The shareware Fractal Domains program notably now runs natively on PowerPC and Intel-based Macs. Mathematician Benoît Mandelbrot coined the term “fractal” in 1975, deriving it from the Latin “fractus,” for broken or fractured. Fractal mathematics have found their expression in a wide variety of software applications for all computing platforms, including the Mac-based Fractal Domains. This utility lets users generate images of the Mandelbrot set, as well as the associated Julia set. Fractal types based on rational functions, such as those based on Newton’s method and Halley’s method, can also be generated. Features include full support for 24-bit color images, image rendering with anti-aliasing, tiling of very large images and export to PICT, PNG, TIFF or JPEG format. / / As well as being a Universal application, version 2.0 is multi-threaded to take advantage of multiple processors/cores, and includes a graphical color map editor and color map randomizer. Fractal Domains is shareware, with a $20 registration providing acess to the complete feature set and the ability to save all images. The utility can be downloaded on the Fractal Domains site. - from Graphics.com

My life has finally come to a point… a tip. / All my life… I have wondered… / why am I feeling this way.. / why are these thoughts so hopeless, abtract, comfortable and real..? / I’ve never once been able to identify with anything, or anyone which could completely understand, or partially comprehend what I am. / I don’t even now sometimes. / But here I am. / A photographer. / Expressing. / Feeling. / Showing. / You. / What I am. / I have loved. / I have expressed many times how I feel. / And not a soul can reach this. / Not one being can realize what I am. / I have loved persons. / and I believe they love me back. / Love isn’t something to take for granted. / But. / I have. / And I love photography. / I do not think I take it’s beauty, potential, existance for granted. / It is not granted to me or anyone. / It is a wonderous ability… a chance. / To show you all. / I spill all of my emotions… my fears, my whims.. my desperation and triumph… into what I see with my eyes.. this strange mind. / And I give it to whomever can see. / I don’t think anyone will ever truly see… / Some appreciate, love and ponder my dreams before them. / When they see what I have created. / I really haven’t actually created any of this… / it is all here… for each and every one of you to see. / But no one seems to and it’s ok. / Because I can get it out… all of those weird thoughts / and abstract understings of who I am. / And it really is safer this way. / No one can see me. / I am hidden behinda veil of destiny.. retreat, hope, calm, love, obsession… so much that I just don’t care what I say with these pictures. / These photos are just groups of atoms.. but they are mine… they are sections of my soul that I want one to feel. / And some I don’t want to feel any longer. / I don’t need someone to understand it all. My baby learned a very hard lesson today. See, yesterday, we introduced him to his first taste of store-bought cinnamin sugar apple pie. He was in love. He shrieked for more. We tried not to let it get out of hand. Then today, I pulled a rotisserie chicken out of the fridge and he went ballistic. He was so excited! So, I go ahead and give him a piece. The…look…on…his…face. Such disillusionment. Chicken? Not pie? He chewed it grudgingly, but did not ask for a second piece. The poor little one. If only every plastic container held pie.

Louvést - more of a rant.

What is it that drives us? What is it that makes us get up in the morning? What is it that makes some of us decide to pull that trigger and spray our blood and brains into some gory rainbow? I think you know. I know I know. I know you know I know. What makes us happy? What makes us sad? Well… you’re happy when you’re doing something you like, what happens when you like something? You grow to love it. What makes you sad? When someone or something takes away what you love, and that sadness grows to hate, loathing. Taking something away can mean lots of things, it doesn’t have to literally mean “taking away.” There’s another point right there. Was your mind just formed into believing the literal meaning “taking away”? Or did you see the symbolism right away? I can’t tell but you’ll know. What is this random babbling? Communication. I’m expressing my thoughts the only way I know how, slowly expanding my mind and hopefully expanding yours. Why is this titled Louvést? I’m getting to that. Are you someone who at my age, or right now, feels as if they’re greatly underestimated by their age? As if by some freak chance the life skills they’ve gained and their understanding is all but summed down to a number? How is it that humanity judges so greatly? As if we all have become canvases and we must all critique. I’m sure I’m not the only one who finds the aggravation within this process of going out in the world but is there nothing else to do but vent? Louvést… what the fuck is that? Some may vulgarly point out. Louvést, for fuck sake what are the French inventing now? Maybe I’m just pessimistic. When you’re my age and you meet someone who you’ve grown to love so quickly and experienced so much in such a short amount of time… you’re not sure what to call it. Love… Lust…. Louvést. The truth is I’m not sure what I’m writing about, all I know is that this will make sense to someone willing enough to go through and read this just as I was willing enough to go through and write this. That right there, what I just said is the purpose of everything.
