  • A few people that I work with watch the US television reality show called “Dancing With the Stars” and talk about the happenings of an episode the day after it aired. Not being big on reality shows, I hear interesting things. “she was stiff… she was beautiful…etc.” Sometimes I want to succumb to the temptation of watching the show, but then I realize… I have my own anxieties. I shot this photograph a few days ago when it was really sun-shiney out. Lately, Nebraska weather can’t decide if it’s going to be warm and Springy, or remain Wintery. (This morning I had ice on my windshield!) This day it was beautiful out, but there was bursts of wind. I was doing it hand-held and every time I raised the camera up to my eye, out came a gust of wind that shook the branches. I swear there was a conspiracy! I think I stood in this spot for 10 minutes waiting for no wind. I gave up I just started shooting and hoped for some parts that remained in focus (thankfully, this one did). The shutterspeed was decent enough, but wind is faster! Hee-hee. I got a lot of shots that came out with the dreamy look, especially with the DOF. I’m pleased. I now have to decide what I want to show you without boring you with a hundred of these. There are several that look quite different, though. These really look like dancing stars, though, huh? Oh, I don’t know the type of tree… does anyone here know? I’ve been told these are apple blossoms! ENJOY Canon EOS 30D DSLR

  • This is a compilation of 11 blooms from our apple trees/flowering crab trees (3 photos are duplicated). I started with an out of focus wide angle view of our flowering crab. I then used a brush to make the photo even more out of focus and to soften the look. (Using Professor Franklin’s Instant Photo Effects). I then used DreamLight Photo Editor to make the border which softened the photo even further. I then started to compile the picture using Magic Photo Editor by adding each grouping of flowers individually and resizing them to fit the space. I then finished it off using PicNik to resize the whole photo. Our apple blossom trees are nearing the end of their blooming (here in MN) right now. (mid to late May). They only bloom for about a week, then the blossoms start to blow off the tree. They are so pretty, it’s sad to see them bloom for such a short time! All of these photos are taken with compact digital cameras. Either with my Sony Cybershot DSC -W120 7.2mp or with my Casio Exlilim 10.1 mp. camera. Both fit nicely in a pocket or in a purse.
