The black-crested Sulawesi Macaques is one of the most endangered monkeys in the world, populations declining 60% in the last 10 years. This monkey is found on the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia, where it is hunted because its meat is considered a delicacy. Habitat destruction is also contributing to their demise. WILD AND FREE / / Young Mountain Gorilla playing at being king of the castle. There were about four young gorillas which were all trying to get him of the top of the mound – it was such fun to watch them play. To spend an hour with Mountain Gorillas is one of the best wildlife experiences you can ever hope for. They captivate you with their eyes and you become lost in the moment. Your time with them goes so fast you are left just wanting more… / / This large Silverback was only a few meters away from us! / / There my be hope yet for the mountain gorilla as a recent WWF report states, please have a look at it HERE / / (Virunga volcanoes – Rwanda) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /
The Vervet Monkey, sometimes simply known as the Vervet, is the common name of the species Chlorocebus pygerythrus, an Old World monkey in the family Cercopithecidae. (The common term “vervet” is also sometimes used to refer to all the members of the genus Chlorocebus.) The Vervet Monkey ranges throughout much of Southern and East Africa, being found from Ethiopia and Somalia south to South Africa. In my country, they are everywhere, but tourists will probably see more of them in our national parks. This painting took me 4 hours to complete. Gorillas are the largest of the living primates. They are ground-dwelling herbivores that inhabit the forests of Africa. Gorillas are divided into two species and (still under debate as of 2008) either four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas is 98%–99% identical to that of a human, and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after the two chimpanzee species. / The Eastern Gorilla is more darkly coloured than the Western Gorilla, with the Mountain Gorilla being the darkest of all. The Mountain Gorilla also has the thickest hair. The Western Lowland Gorilla can be brown or greyish with a reddish forehead. In addition, gorillas that live in lowland forests are more slender and agile than the more bulky Mountain Gorilla. / Almost all gorillas share the same blood type and, like humans, have individual finger prints / Both species of gorilla are endangered, and have been subject to intense poaching for a long time. Threats to gorilla survival include habitat destruction and the bushmeat trade. ~Wikipedia / Panasonic FZ20 / 1/60s, f/2.8, ISO:200
This the famous Marsden bay in South Shields, with the stack amid the rubble of the remains of the lost arch and adjoining smaller stack, while another smaller stack stands closer to the cliffs further along the shore line. The title is a reference to the shoreline used in King Kong film. Converted into black and white with a film look.
