  • This is the same red barn as in “barn windows”... / / / / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / /

  • This is the old Westvale Barn… it was built over 100 years ago and was in use until only a few years past. Now it is scheduled for the wrecking ball. / / Canon 400d /

  • My grandparents’ old farm is full of old buildings like this dark red barn. The stacks of wood you see are cut from nearby forest, awaiting planing into lumber to be used in new homes. I played around with this until it had something of an antique look to it. Thoughts on this process are welcome!

  • Singer Sewing Machine

  • This image was printed using liquid light. / This is a silver-based sensitizer for applying on any surface, exposing by an enlarger, and processing in conventional chemistry. It is virtually the same emulsion found on ordinary photographic paper, but in a liquid form and can allow the emulsion to be coated on a wide range of surfaces. / Here I have applied the liquid light using a brush to scrap metal and once it was dried exposed it with the enlarger. It was then developed, fixed and washed similar to any photographic paper. / The final piece of scrap metal was then stuck onto painted pine to be displayed. / The image you see before you is then a digital photograph of the displayed piece. • Blacksburg, VA – June 2008

  • There was a multiple sale of this image in November 2008. SEE THE CAROUSEL IMAGE COLLECTION RIDE THE CAROUSEL FOR 25 CENTS! No, that is not a price from yesteryear but the price today for a ride on the Kit Carson County Carousel in Burlington, Colorado which is located just off Interstate 70 on the Colorado/Kansas border. Although there were nearly 4,000 wooden carousels carved in the U.S. between 1885 and 1930, there are fewer than 150 still in existence. The one in Burlington is a magnificent example of the menegerie carousel which includes other animals in addition to horses. There are 46 hand-carved animals mounted on a 45-foot diameter platform. The largest animals are on the outside row, each with intricate carvings ranging from a giraffe with a snake twined around its neck to a armed gnome perched behind the saddle of a zebra! This carousel was manufactured in 1905 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company (PTC). Carousels made by PTC are identified by numbers in the order they were made. Therefore, the one in Burlington is identified as the PTC No. 6 which indicates that it was the sixth (of 74) manufactured. The PTC No. 6 is a 3-row ride and the animals do not move up and down. Currently housed in a 12-sided wooden building, this 100+ year old carousel has been completely restored and still has original paint on both the cotton muslin scenery panels and on the animals. This carousel was originally run by the 1902 General Electric Induction Motor. Amazingly this motor has never been rebuilt and still powers the carousel on special occasions at more than 10-12 miles per hour! The average carousel has a speed of 8 mph. The PTC No. 6 was designated a National Historic Site in 1979, then designed a National Historic Landmark in l987, and is the only one in Colorado that you can ride! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. Best on Full Size This little copper kettle was on an ancient wood stove, located in one of the log cabins at Old Bedford Village in Bedford, PA. One of the interesting things about this wonderful village is the buildings and accessories are authentic to their time periods. It is my understanding that the homes and barns and churches are not reproductions, but are actual, once-working structures that have been moved to Old Bedford Village . Image taken wih the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens. Shutter speed 1/10, aperture f/13.0, exp. -.33, iso 1000. No flash, natural light. Post processing included the addition of three textures in Photoshop, a light Orton technique and dodging and burning. Textures courtesy of Princess of Shadows at Deviant Art and Ghostbones on Flickr.
