  • This is an image created to illustrate an environmental portrait of an old camera called a “speed graphic”... the whole scene is meant to tell a story of a time when this camera was in use. I hope you enjoy this marvelous piece of photographic history. Here are some beautifully fitting words by Wayne Cook It’s setting atop my desk, / Bit dusty, but the bellows are still pliable, / Haven’t shot anything in it, / More than 20 years, / Maybe 30…. / Oh, but the negs…. / Glorious things, / Like still nuggets in reverse / I’d shine that enlarger through one…. / Whew…. those celluloids, / Never lost my awe, / The figures almost came to life, / There on the table. / Something about that lifeless frame, / I swear it moves when I turn my back. / Breaks my heart to leave it lay, / But the film…oh, god, it breaks the bank!

  • June 26th How excited I am! Tomorrow is my birthday, and my sisters have told me that Papa will be arriving first thing, and that he has a very special treat in store for me. Naturally since learning of this, I have been at pains to discover what awaits me. Yet to my utter dismay, when I try to interrogate my sisters , they will only say that they are sworn to secrecy, then glance at one another and burst into infuriating giggles. I feel that if I am to succeed in my endeavour to extract the necessary information before morning, I must first get to each of them separately, then use all the cunning and ingenuity inherited from my beloved father. What springs immediately to mind, is to adopt the guile of one of Nature’s predators and pursue the weaker of the pack. Knowing as I do of Audrey’s great fondness for fruit bonbons, I shall arm myself with said items, and make my way to her bedchamber this very evening. Let us see how long her lips remain sealed when such delightful confection is offered in exchange for her secrets!

  • Music kindly supplied by armadillozenith These are a few of the antique books I’ve come across rummaging around second hand stores. I have wanted to capture them properly, and what better way than with the viewfinder! History 101 is the inside pages of the red book at the bottom of this shot. • I took this from a bus, while traveling between Madrid and Valencia, in Spain. I have no idea what this little village is called, but it was like something out of a movie. We past several of these on the 6 hour bus trip across the country. Spain has some spectacular scenery and quaint villages that almost seem trapped in time. Layered the original image twice, adjusted contrast and tone slightly. Added a texture layer from www.deviantart.com free use stock. Layered the texture several times over, adjusting the constrast, saturation and lightness on each to vary the colour and tone. • I’ve had my nose buried in the art of Da Vinci over the past couple of days, re-familiarizing myself with his mastery. / As much as I love his paintings, it’s his sketchwork that intrigues me the most…... his sketch workups for his paintings have such humanity in them, his invention sketches showing us a tiny glimpse of his genius, & those anatomy sketches giving us some insight into his constant need for knowledge…. Sadly I haven’t drawn anything for almost 5 years, but today the great Master has inspired me to pick up a pen after all this time, & I have to say it feels great! This image began life 12 years ago as a single line drawing hastily sketched as a thought came into my head. I’ve often looked at it with stirrings of interest….. / So today, with visions of Da Vinci & ancient manuscripts in my head I am drawing again . • Constructive suggestions on honing my B&W conversion skills welcome! Sam is a legend in the Antique business, and in the Windsor area on the outskirts of Sydney. He owns the most fabulous old shed full of dusty ‘treasures’ and is always delighted to have people pop in for a chat. A recent addition to his life was this gorgeous puss … the photo was taken at Sam’s request. FEATURED on HOME PAGE 29 August 2009 My Bubblesite also shows works in categories. • The Isolette is an inexpensive post-war German folding medium format camera built between 1951 and 1954. It featured scale focusing and a halfway decent Agna 85mm f/4.5 lens. It’s pictured here with the Alcron Master bakelite flash unit. The Alcron folds up into a nice compact unit. The Isolette series of cameras had a long history. The first Isolette was produced in 1938 and the last Super Isolette (with coupled rangefinder) was made between 1954-1960. The sixties brought the demise of the medium format rangefinder and the introduction of compact 35mm rangefinders and SLRs. This is one of my vintage camera’s. They make such nice subjects.
