american flag
This print was taken at the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends in Columbus Ohio 2007. The flag was the largest ever flown by a skydiver and was flown while the national anthem was sung. The 4 mustangs flew in formation and I caught this photo at just the right time. The mustang faded into the background was a separate picture also taken at the GML.
“Ode to Newfoundland” is the official provincial anthem of Newfoundland and Labrador. It dates back to 1904, when it was penned by Governor Sir Cavendish Boyle to a tune by Sir Hubert Parry. When Newfoundland received Dominion status in 1907, the song was made into its national anthem, but this distinction was dropped when Newfoundland joined the Canadian Confederation in 1949. Three decades later, in 1980, the province re-adopted the song as an official provincial anthem. Newfoundland and Labrador is the only province in Canada to officially adopt a provincial anthem. / / When sun-rays crown thy pine-clad hills, / And summer spreads her hand, / When silvern voices tune thy rills, / We love thee, smiling land, / We love thee, we love thee, / We love thee, smiling land. / / When spreads thy cloak of shimm’ring white, / At winter’s stern command, / Thro’ shortened day and star-lit night, / We love thee, frozen land, / We love thee, we love thee, / We love thee, frozen land. / / When blinding storm gusts fret thy shore, / And wild waves lash thy strand, / Thro’ sprindrift swirl and tempest roar, / We love thee, wind-swept land, / We love thee, we love thee / We love thee, wind-swept land. As loved our fathers, so we love, / Where once they stood we stand, / Their prayer we raise to heaven above, / God guard thee, Newfoundland, / God guard thee, God guard thee, / God guard thee, Newfoundland. ..................................... / Click here to add me to your watch list. / .....................................
This one was taken at Fort Henry in Baltimore. It’s flag was Francis Scott Key’s inspiration for “The Star Spangled Banner”. Now a National Park in the midst of busy Baltimore it’s worth a visit. You can truly sense history as you walk on the top of the earthworks and across the parade ground. Looking out into the harbour you can almost catch a glimpse of the ship Key stood upon during the battle.

My Giant Anthem LE enjoying the sunset up at the Trig Point near the top of the Commonwealth Games Mountain Bike Course at Lysterfield Lake Park in Victoria, Australia. You can usually find me here training once or twice a week. The Trig point also overlooks a massive quarry and looks back towards Melbourne. winning a class and hearing your national anthem must be amazing. i love the way although this rider has been in that position on many occasions it obviously still means a great deal to him.

A boxer stands facing the American flag during the pre-fight playing of the national anthem.
The opening of the Berwick Rodeo started with the singing of the national anthem, during which the rodeo queen carrying the nation’s flag circuited the arena, then halted in the centre & did commendable flag twirling, with not even a flickering ear from her well-trained horse! O Canada! / Our home and native land! / True patriot love in all thy sons command. / With glowing hearts we see thee rise, / The True North strong and free! / From far and wide, O Canada, / We stand on guard for thee. / God keep our land glorious and free! / O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. / O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. / O Canada! Where pines and maples grow. / Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow. / How dear to us thy broad domain, / From East to Western sea. / Thou land of hope for all who toil! / Thou True North, strong and free! / God keep our land glorious and free! / O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. / O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies / May stalwart sons, and gentle maidens rise, / To keep thee steadfast through the years / From East to Western sea. / Our own beloved native land! / Our True North, strong and free! / God keep our land glorious and free! / O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. / O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. Ruler supreme, who hearest humble prayer, / Hold our Dominion in thy loving care; / Help us to find, O God, in thee / A lasting, rich reward, / As waiting for the better Day, / We ever stand on guard. / God keep our land glorious and free! / O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. / O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
I have been counseling PTSD vets for several years, at this particular time of year, it is rather crucial to be available for those men who served our country. As we approach the 4th of July celebrations, commemorating our ‘independence’ and rockets’ red glares go bursting in the air, not only do our Veterans suffer, but the many who have experienced trauma from explosions, gunfire and loud noises. The animals also suffer, if not sedated. / This is a poem that I wrote about feelings shared with and interpreted by me, from these experiences. Consider this please, when you gaze in awe to the sky / Those fireworks that burst and boom, remind Vets of a time to die Each Colorful rocket glares fear and adrenaline recalls / Signaling helps from artillery for unseen enemy walls Deadly consequences in memories of bloody warzones / While fire burns in the sky, soldiers’ unsung soul does intone Celebrating battles triumphant, honoring tools that kill / While those who sacrificed and lived – defy ‘wars’ will Soldiers who’ve fought for peace are betrayed with each firework blast / With a slap from our hands and sensory shocks of the past. tkrosevear 7/08 May you have a peaceful and mindful celebration this holiday! Australians call out with one voice, / To all across the sea, / We value race and culture and / Rule with democracy. Black or white, we’ll stand as one, / So to the world we’ll swear, / To tolerate our Aussie mate, / Advance Australia fair! In human lives we shall not trade, / Nor human rights neglect, / We’re all a part of this one world, / This globe we must protect, With terrorists we shall not deal, / Nor give in to despair, / Our calls for peace, will never cease, / Advance Australia fair! We’ve Muslims, Jews and Christians too, / Where all may choose their path, / Where elderly may walk the streets, / And little children laugh, Where spirits rise and friendships grow, / Where people ever care, / Where hate and fear are nowhere near, / Advance Australia fair! In joyful strains then let us sing, / “Advance Australia fair!” (One of the Geelong Bollards)
